Vodafone Japan has a summer sale going on..... 904SH is now only less than CAN$200

Posted by: hitechy

Where can I buy???

Posted by: valerossi

Interesting...

https://www.vodafone.jp/scripts/eng...ucts/select.jsp

hmm... so is this mean a 903SH cost more now in Japan?

Posted by: aychseven

i assume that price is with a contract...

Posted by: sclaz21

i believe its with contract. my friend went to japan tried to get me a 904sh, it was around 200 or so with contract.. but too bad you need an address, ID, and so on to activate

Posted by: Frost C S

less than 200?
about 260 cad, plus you need to get a contract.
LEGALLY that means you must live in Japan.
It is never wise to do things illegally, they always come back to you in the future.
Plus don't forget the $100 cad for cancelation, and shipping and packing if you can bribe someone to eat a contract for you (you might have to pay them, because they are doing something illegally)
So you are looking at.. 425-600 cad?
Hrm .. quite a deal.
And don't even try to say if you are buying something from someone and it's an illegal item, you aren't doing anything wrong. If it's too cheap, it's obviously illegal. If it won't hold up in court, I see no reason why it should hold up in real life.
Why not spend a few extra dollars, and maybe have a chance at support if it breaks?
I hear so many people complain about getting something dirt cheap, then crying if it's broken or not working later, because they can't find someone to fix it, or even the person who sold it to them.

Posted by: valerossi

Frost C S, are you a phone seller? Cause that does sound like what a typical salesman would say...

Posted by: Frost C S

I sell a phone now and then, but I am not a reseller, or anything close.
I just get tons of messages and emails asking if I have this part or that part.. and the story that goes along with it.
Then I come in here and read all these "my phone is broken, what do I do now" threads.
It's sad.. yet people keep on insisting they do it because they think they get a good deal, you guys out there who this happened to know what I am talking about.
If someone sells something, and it's broken.. they have a right to expect it fixed.
If you buy it from someone who supports no liability, basically you are buying an as-is phone.
If you buy it through vodafone, and then you cancel your contract and jet, you think they are going to offer to patch up your phone for you? No, but they might offer you to buy another one with a new contract.
I know quite a few people in Japan, even some private dealers who do unlocking. You think if they break a phone they don't compensate for it?
Why do you think they charge so much? It's insurance.
Sometimes insurance is good to have, when you don't have it and something goes wrong, you always wish you did.
If you buy something half price, expect it to work half&ssed. But if something goes wrong, just don't post about it, or cry to people in private messages if they can help. I understand peoples feelings, it's just pointless to try to tell someone what they did wrong, when they easily could have done it from the start.

Dealers on these forums for example, some offer warrentee's and such for a reason. If it breaks, they deal with it under a lot of circumstances.

I hear ya Frost C S, I was just pulling your leg...

But honestly though, if I'm the buyer that bought something much cheaper than from a retail store... for sure I wouldn't expect to have any warranty on this product... for sure there is a risk there...

I'm pretty sure if Vodafone Japan has N80, the price would be about the same as the 904SH... look at how cheap they're selling the N70 for... like $110...

Btw... how did you manage to calculate $145?

26,040 yen for 904SH
-5,250 yen discount
--------------------
20,790 yen

Which is still about $203 CAD just for the phone...

Actually, I've decided to get a 903SH over the 904SH... wonder if he can get the 903SH for this low price also...

Actually, I don't mind getting the 904SH, but only when it's unlocked... retail price from Vodafone Japan won't go up anyway even when the unlock is available...

Good luck finding a 903SH. About the only place to get them now is Yahoo Auctions.

Who said VFJP sold the N70? If you think the 702NKII is the same as the N70, you're horribly mistaken.

Really? Cause I asked my friend in Japan couple of weeks ago, he said not all the Vodafone stores has it, but the one he went in Tokyo still has quite a few in the store...

oops.. I thought they're the same...

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Noooope. My friend went searching through Shibuya, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. No luck. It's been like that for quite a while too.

We just ended up getting one of Yahoo Auctions. After all the cancellation crap.. it turns out at about the same price too.

hmm... really?

Oh well, I will see what my friend in Japan can do... worst come to worst is to get one from Yahoo also...

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Yep, really. See what he can do, he might know some of the best places to go.

The girl looking for me checked all the big stores though. Vodafone, Bic Camera, Sakuraya, etc.

Thanks for the info... maybe I should tell my friend to check the little stores instead...

Posted by: johnmoon

damn I hope I have some hookups in JAPAN

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Yeah, but the little stores are more inclined to charge a higher price. Anyway, good luck.

Posted by: Cloud V

little stores are actually very cheap, I was looking the other day, and around ikebukuro alone little stores were selling the 904 for around 15,000 yen, and the 705 for as cheap 1 yen to 5000 yen.

The catch is a lot of them will not let you buy as a second line, or let you get out of the happy bonus crap, so if you tell them you don't want it, they will refuse to sell it to you. From what I understand, Voda is actually being a ***** about this kinda of stuff, more then AU or DoCoMo.

As it is, it's getting harder to find stores that will sell you a voda phone while letting you get out of happy bonus...

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Cloud V> I was talking specifically about the 903, where it is impossible to find at bigger stores. I know the 705 and 904 are cheaper at these little stores, so that they can compete with the big stores.

Your best bet actually is to check vodafone shops, they are the last places getting in stock, but you're just going to have to go to random ones. I've seen 903's as recently as a month ago in Akihabara and Ueno's vodafone shops, but ones that aren't on the main shopping district but out of the way.

Posted by: lucidzero

too bad u have to go thru all that crap to get the 904 at that price..............

there's plenty of 903s here in vancouver :P

what is this happy bonus stuff that u were talking about?

it's a discount plan that gives you two months of usage free in one year. the catch? it's a 2 year contract. Should you cancel within 2 years you are charged a 10,000 yen (about 100 dollars) cancellation fee.

Some places will let you buy a cell phone without this requirement, and only raise the price of the phone about 3000 yen, which would make this the cheapest way to go. However, places that do that are getting rarer and rarer as vodafone is apparently making places go for the 2 year contract.
