Any Way to Get a V3m to work with Cricket?

Hi! I am a total noob when it comes to Motorola phones, so please forgive my naiveté.

I was wondering if: A.) Is it even possible to reprogram a Verizon V3m work with Cricket? and, B.) If possible, is it even WORTH it?

Specifically, I was wondering what features would be gained, supported, or lost. For example, I was reading somewhere in the forums that a person who re-programmed a Verizon V3m to work with Alltel had problems getting the TransFlash media to read.

I just want to know if I can have "my cake and eat it too"; i.e. The best of both worlds: I want all the features of the V3m phone to work (MP3 player and TransFlash media) plus all the features offered by Cricket to work as well(Cricket "Clicks" [content downloads], "Info & Email" or bka WAP, MMS).

Anybody have any concise answers to this?

First off are you sure they had a verizon flashed to alltel V3m? Motorola has not even released the software for the Alltel flash (I'm a motorola warranty center). So him flashing it... probly not, however the V3C has been on all the networks.

As for working on the cricket network, yes I am running a V3m on cricket. I have not nailed down the data side of the phone yet to make that work, but I was up an running with a E815 fully working (downloads, pic msging, games etc...). It's only a matter of time b4 I crack it.

What you read was someone took their perfectly good (well, except for the Verizon RED UI) V3M and flashed it with the Alltel V3C Firmware... yes, this disables the TF Card function, removes the verizon media player, vcast music support, as well as the other ramifications of flashing with another carrier's firmware...

I wouldn't exepect it to do anything other than to make/answer phone calls, Verizon Media Player, and TF slot will continue to work too...

But as for messaging, mobile web, other data services... I'd expect it to either take a lot of work.. IF you can make it work...

or you could just prl flash the M and keep everything. But it will take a lot of work to get mms and wap. I am still working on it but cant get the cricket files I need.

Are you serious? Is that all it takes is a PRL flash? In that case, I'm assuming the menus would still be available to access the TransFlash card?

Also, from the post above, it looks like some users have already found a way to get WAP and MMS going, although I couldn't care less about Cricket's "Clicks" content downloads!

If all of this is true, I'll be ordering my v3m off eBay tomorrow!

Please keep us informed of your progress!

I would like to get a v3m but I would like to know if I need a special unbranded v3m or a verizon v3m or any will do? Is prl flash the same thing I did to my v3i with a monster pack? I could use as much info as possible sine im really seriouse in doing this, thanks.

I also have another unanswered question. Is there a way to keep use of the mem card after flashing it with the cricket v3c software? I really need some answers cuase im out of minutes on my cingular phone and now is the time to drop them.

That is the whole idea: If you flash the phone to with Cricket (or Alltel) software, it becomes a v3c PERIOD. That means NO memory card function and NO MP3 playback!

The only way to keep those features for now is to keep the Verizon GUI. Allegedly, this is possible by flashing the PRL file ONLY, and then calling Cricket to get the phone registered.

Thanks for answering my question. Maybe some one that has done it can verify it before I buy one, or should I just get a v3m any ways since they are the same price in hopes that some one will be able to rig it up. And if that is the avenue to go will txt msg and stuff like that work if I did flash it to a v3c?

You can get the Cricket service to work with the v3m. Text, MMS, & data is another question entirely.

Go to the Cricket forum and search for WAP. Allegedly, it is possible, but not proven.

Id just like to know where he got the cricket firmware!

you dont need cricket firmware although some things might work better, or without as much "tuning" most of the work is done with pst using the settings taken of my cricket branded v265 and puting them on the v710 branded verizon and with a telus firmware.

my experiences are like this:

when I used the cricket monster flash for the v3m it indeed became a v3c with all features working except the transflash. BUT within a few days it became buggy and started locking up my outbox so I couldn't delete any mms i sent.

SO .. I started again ... did the generic flash loading the files provided in one of the downloads for it I found. The transflash was back, no cricket branding, everything working except MMS which is unacceptable.

SO ... reflashed with cricket monster... used PST to save settings files, reflashed with DST monster... loaded up files I just saved from after the cricket monster flash ... and so far so good ... everything including transflash seems to be fully functional. Will take a few days to see how stable it all is but my hopes are high ... right now is behaving just like I had hoped it would!
