Ive owned them all. qtek 9100, SK2, Imate PDA2k, RAZR, Pebl....the sidekick 2 and 3 are the only two devices that just plain worked out of the box. Photos? Decent, but doable. IM? Works perfectly. Email? Works perfectly. Speed? Just fine. The interface is aimed at the kiddie factor, but realistically, I far prefer a device that works with as close to zero config as possible. 9100: Too slow, horrible IM systems, weird GPRS issues that had me resetting my phone daily to stay connected. Windows Media Player a crazy, schizophrenic mess PDA2k: Poor keyboard, same weird GPRS issues, Speedy, but still impossible to stay connected and Agile messenger is god-awful. too bulky, no EDGE HP 6515: MAJOR Gprs issues, no software support for GPS, weird screen size, horrible battery life All motorola phones: super hackable, but slow slow slow interface. No decent web browsing, IM on a non qwerty phone?! Nokia's Symbian? no thanks I'm not a fan of the stupid cutsey crap on the SK interface, and I'm sad I can't configure/personalize it, but darned if I wasnt smiling, browsing the web, chatting with friends, taking pictures, emailing them, and listening to MP3s while on the train without a single hitch, and I didn't have to pull out a manual, or troubleshoot a single thing to do it. Thank god for that. I DID sell my SK2 way before I got the SK3, however, mostly because I was dissapointed with the speed of the network, couldnt browse the web reliably, and the camera was shockingly dissapointing. I went in search of the perfect convergent device, thought I could find it in Pocket PC phones, and found out I was dead wrong. Don't get me wrong, I have friends who swear by them, but those users generally are using their devices in a totally different way than I am (mostly wanting PDA functionality, the ability to edit word docs, hook up to exchange) Since early last week, the SK3 has time and time again 'justified it's existence' in my pocket by suiting my needs, and doing it reliably. I'm sorry if it's not hitting your sweet spot the way it has mine, but hey, the fewer folks on the network clogging it up, the better, eh? ![]() |
