Self explanitory, are you returning your Sidekick III?

Posted by: void808

why in the world would you want to do that?!

Posted by: faux panda

Cause the phone sucks!!! HAHAHAHA, ok...yeah i am just re selling it and getting more out of it...no Tmobile pun intended.

wow. I just read the hate thread.

Ive owned them all. qtek 9100, SK2, Imate PDA2k, RAZR, Pebl....the sidekick 2 and 3 are the only two devices that just plain worked out of the box. Photos? Decent, but doable. IM? Works perfectly. Email? Works perfectly. Speed? Just fine. The interface is aimed at the kiddie factor, but realistically, I far prefer a device that works with as close to zero config as possible.

9100: Too slow, horrible IM systems, weird GPRS issues that had me resetting my phone daily to stay connected. Windows Media Player a crazy, schizophrenic mess

PDA2k: Poor keyboard, same weird GPRS issues, Speedy, but still impossible to stay connected and Agile messenger is god-awful. too bulky, no EDGE

HP 6515: MAJOR Gprs issues, no software support for GPS, weird screen size, horrible battery life

All motorola phones: super hackable, but slow slow slow interface. No decent web browsing, IM on a non qwerty phone?!

Nokia's Symbian? no thanks

I'm not a fan of the stupid cutsey crap on the SK interface, and I'm sad I can't configure/personalize it, but darned if I wasnt smiling, browsing the web, chatting with friends, taking pictures, emailing them, and listening to MP3s while on the train without a single hitch, and I didn't have to pull out a manual, or troubleshoot a single thing to do it. Thank god for that.

I DID sell my SK2 way before I got the SK3, however, mostly because I was dissapointed with the speed of the network, couldnt browse the web reliably, and the camera was shockingly dissapointing. I went in search of the perfect convergent device, thought I could find it in Pocket PC phones, and found out I was dead wrong. Don't get me wrong, I have friends who swear by them, but those users generally are using their devices in a totally different way than I am (mostly wanting PDA functionality, the ability to edit word docs, hook up to exchange)

Since early last week, the SK3 has time and time again 'justified it's existence' in my pocket by suiting my needs, and doing it reliably. I'm sorry if it's not hitting your sweet spot the way it has mine, but hey, the fewer folks on the network clogging it up, the better, eh?

No way would I return this amazing, awesome device.

Void808, I couldn't have said it better myself! Great post.

People sadly are letting little quirks that can be fixed in the future prevent them from enjoying the SK3.

Man i love my sk3 but i just need it to work in my house!!

U are absolutly right...i mean the SK3...i dont like it...cause its got too much "junk" i dont need...but it and the SK2 have the best enterfaces...and yea it can be used without alot of configuring. The AIm is the best...ever...i mean there is nothing, and i mean nothing better than any of the Sidekicks...1-3 that can get anywhere near it. Its just the SK3 was too hyped up and it was not worth the money...not when the SK2 still had life left...

Im just going to sell it then buy the samsung i320 this sk3 is utter trash

Posted by: automattic

I'm returning this phone due to:
1. Horrible reception
2. Slow internet
3. Poor battery life

Going back to my reliable Nokia 6101.

Those issues will most likely be addressed.

And #3 is not a problem if you know what you're doing.

im not ever returning mine...i may sell it in the future if something better comes along, but im absolutely satisfied...

im a former sk2 user, sold it to get the mda, and sold the mda to get the sk3...reliability is a factor for me and the mda wasn't cutting it (i live where the reception isn't the best...). i was tired of every single call dropping on the mda...the more and more the calls were dropped, i kept thinking of my sidekick II...glad i made the switch back because first and foremost i need a phone...the rest is just bonus stuff

Posted by: mj2323

i think that the poor reception of the sidekick 3 is a hardware issue. i think the antenna sucks so it will never get good reception.

Posted by: lime!

Camera isin't as good as I expected.
Browser speed also isin't as fast as I would expect it to be.
Battery life isin't good.
I'm just a little dissapointed. But I must say the SK3 looks awsome

a post i can relate to. you share very similar opinions and previous phone experience as i do. i, like you, want a phone that can sort of do it all. since the sidekick 2, i've been on this search for this holy grail of sorts for something that could complete with the speed and easy functionality of the sk2 with increased features like bluetooth, mp3, better camera.

i've searched far and wide for sk2 type of phones...

lg9100
sk2
8125 (htc wizard)
motorola ming (a1200)
treo 650
sk3

you think first and foremost, why would i CHOOSE a sidekick anyway?

because i want speedy data transmitted messages for chatting programs and to browse the web with the CONVENIENCE of a keyboard.

the 8125... now i swore this would have been God's way of amending the mistake of creating women but alas, that was not to be. the 8125, though great in potential, was ultimately stunted by it's processor. it's slow, sluggish, slothlike, and then some. using programs like VERICHAT, OZ, IM+, AGILE MOBILE, were decent but ultimately CRAP OUT, when compared to the built in AIM 3.0 in the sk3 or even in the sk2. they are buggy, not as fast, problematic, just to name a few. to give credit to the developers of these chat programs, they really have raised the bar from what was offered in the past. i believe, with future editions of these chat programs on a capable machine, i think their efforts will be well worth it and be on par with what a sk2/sk3 can do now.

which brings me to my point, and which supports the void808's. messaging wise, email wise, chatting wise, SPEEDWISE, the sk3 wins over HIGHER PRICED PDAs. that's why i use it now, even though i still have a 8125 on cingular. simply because it's actually FUN using these programs.

there are TONS of programs for my 8125, as there are for all WM devices, but hey, what good are they if they aren't fun using it.

now... it's obvious that a WM5 device like the 8125 has great potential as there are many many many programs, more than you, your mother, and her brother will ever use in three lifetimes, but will you have fun using them?

the sk3 does what it's supposed to do and does it right, sort of like hiring a true experienced las vegas hooker that knows what she's doing versus a housewife who wants to just try turning tricks out once.

the 8125 tends to do many things (including video, radio, better organizer) but fails at what i would say an average user really would use the most, which is messaging, chatting, speed of use, and flat out fun.

Only way i'd off my sidekick 3 was if someone were to give me at least $700, and even then i dont think i'd do it.
