Damn!!!! Thats insane! Well, considering the problems p;aguing some devices, i am sure even such a sweet deal isn't going to get them to spring for the device.

One thing thats got me thinking is as to how these guys manage to offer the devices so cheap. I mean all the resellers buy it for the same price from the distributor, then how come such a big margin of difference? I wonder if there's something dodgy in the process...

I know the players, and from past pricing patterns, when these guys get a little nervous about getting stuck with stock, they start chopping the price.
In this case, I think the boys all loaded up, thinking the 8500 was going to be in high demand.
And they are real uncomfortable, especially with the HTC TyTN coming in a few weeks.

What problems does it have? Other than the missed calls problem which I suppose is rather large....

Speaking of eBay price wars...and the HTC-branded devices...

MadMonkeyBoy, will you be getting the TyTN and/or the MtEOR any time soon? Any idea of an approximate price point that we could expect from you or around eBay for both devices?

i hear early August for TyTN, price is still a guess, and my guess is $750 to $800

yea, the extra $ sounds like it was well worth it, but i'm also glad i didn't buy right out of the chute at all...i'm gonna see how this missed call thing plays out before i buy and maybe the prices will come down too...

the price wars are funny though, i didn't expect it to begin dropping so fast, but if HTC doesn't so something quick, not only are in-stock units gonna stop moving, but existing units are gonna be returned or unloaded on ebay...

it's too bad, nice phone, would have loved to have had one...maybe w/ Cingular releasing it, HTC will get on the problem quickly...Cingular won't want to sell it w/ this HUGE of a problem w/ the phone.

I guess that makes sense MMB. Still, i think this device will do really well once the problems are sorted out (am sure solution is being worked upon right now). Personally, i don't have any issues with this device whatsoever and would recommend it in a blink.

The Meteor is expected to be priced around $650-700 which imo is TOO MUCH. I would rather pay an extra $100-150 and get the TyTn.

price war is very gd for us buyers who always like to get units first and i must say i am happy both with my dopod s300 and my wifes qtek 8500 which does not have any problem whats so ever.

I sold my 8125 and was planning on the 8500, but THIS time I'm gonna wait til Cingular carries it. I purchased the SLVR on ebay about 2 mos prior to it's Cingular release and paid $150 more than cingular offers it for. Lesson learned for me, It's only a friggin cell phone! I'm beyond having to be one of the first people to have it. Just like the Shelby GT500, I'm dying for the car (which came out last week on showroom floors) but I'll be damned if I pay 20K+ over the 45K sticker, especially since they are now going to produce them for 3 years. HUH! It's the customers that do it.
