SMS going straight to sim card

can someone help me? i have a sierra wireless voq A10 phone. Today i stopped getting my text messages and for some reason i had to retrieve them by importing from SIM. Can anyone tell me why this was happening? like i wouldnt even get a notification that i had a text, so i just kept importing from SIM card and they just kept popping up. Does any one know how i can prevent this from happening again? Thanx in advance
