Anyone remember the N-gage???

So i was in gamestop yesterday wanting to trade in my 17 dollars worth of PS2 games on a new game. I was holding the godfather in my hand when i looked down and saw the ngage qd for 49.99 and i thought why not? im tired of my psp games being so expensive and the games are only 3 bucks and really addicting.

So my question is this. It came with a Cingular lingo on the box and a cingular sim and 10 bucks of GoPhone credit. I was wondering if anyone know that i could trade it out for a tmo sim i get off ebay because theyre cheap. Cingular is a jip i think and they make you pay for everything does anyone know how to get around this or something? Or a place to get cheap refill cards? I have a real phone but itd be nice to use this one for internet. thanks.

Lol, so you don't even have a current plan at all?

I think that cingular go-phone is the easier pay as you go service, but idk.

I'd highly suggest just setting up a monthly plan. Its obvious that you don't need much, I'd suggest a 400 minutes plan, I'm sure you could get it for very cheap.

You'd also have to unlock it for T-mobile, you'll either have to send it out or possibly find/buy the code online (arround 5-10 bucks).

i have a phone service already i just want to try tmo because im thinking of switching. is that true that i need codes? i just cant stick a sim in?

Posted by: bye4now12

Well, I'm pretty sure that if it says cingular on it then its locked to cingular. If you've got a friend with t-mobile you could borrow his sim card to see if it'll work in the N-gage. If it is locked to cingular then you will need to get the unlock codes.

So, you just went to gamestop and they had n-gages in stock for 50 bucks? Might have to pick one up for a fun backup phone.

Possibly even sell it on ebay, they sell for arround 100 I think.

yeah i know! it was like 35 bucks after i gave them two ps2 games and i also got tomb raider but that was like 3 bucks. The guy had to go in the back and get it and it was covered in dust and the packaging was discolored but it works great. i love the symbian OS.

I dont know if theyre locked to cingular. it has the cingular ringtone and thats all i can find of cingular on it.

I still have my QD from two years ago. And I still use it (as a phone tho, not to play games).

To my surprise, this phone is built TOUGH! I once dropped it while I was on top of an escalator. As it tumbled down, every piece was falling into pieces. Luckily I was able to recover them all (oh the embarrassment!). Then once I was able to piece them all again together, the phone worked just as good as the first day I got it.

And yes, I'm THAT careless with my phones. hehehe

n-gage is a smartphone after all

N-Gage QD is a great phone well ahead of its time. but you can't compare it with N95 (but most people do and then complain that QD lacks many features) what they ought to think the difference in time when the phones were launched.
the important thing is that QD still has a place in my heart i still have it and am proud to use it.
still some of my friends ridicule me for using it
i love my QD

i still love my ngage, but yeah dont use it anymore...

Posted by: mattgreen

I wasn't really a fan. It had a bunch of games, but most looked/were pretty bad. I think that it was ahead of it's time as well, but the physical design/profile is what killed it in my mind. I'd rather have a PDA brick up to my head than an N-Gage.

Just sold my last (and probably my final) QD. I always get second thoughts when selling it, then getting an urge later on to buy another one. I know it's old technology, but it works really well.

Posted by: angel_wing0

i m getting all sorts of interests for my ngage too, but not selling it..not just yet.

Posted by: peryus88

It took me a long time to sell mine, as others wanted it for about $20 - $40. I was lucky that one guy bought it for $50...but that included all the accessories for it. Oh well, it's just a phone, and I can always buy another one later down the road.

Posted by: angel_wing0

well for $50 i would rather keep mine.

QD was ok... the original one... I'd laugh at anyone who still has it. Who talks on a phone sideways? It's like talking on a taco... ridiculous.

well... it doesn't strain your hand, or leave the mic pointing out, away from your mouth to pick up everything but your voice. it doesn't put the hot, plastic screen up against your oily cheek, to then be cleaned with a wipe on your sleeve. it doesn't lay the keypad across your beard where the mic can pick up every little movement and transmit that scratching straight to the ear of the other caller.

for me, it was a progressive handset design, but was instead met with criticism by some strange folk whose infamous coined-term suggests a strange history with tex-mex cuisine.

hey man! dont dis the taco!!!

Posted by: peryus88

If the QD had EDGE, I wouldn't mind keeping it. Browsing the net with GPRS does get tedious at times. But I honestly would buy one if Nokia made an updated N-Gage specific phone.

Hey roncito, isn't your sig a little outdated?

Posted by: brendan007

im still here in the ngage forum. I got the QD and i bought the original off ebay not to long ago, or maybe it was here... i forget. I use it on trips with my friends a lot. Its pretty fun, too bad the multiplayer bluetooth kills the batteries so quickly

Posted by: angel_wing0

thats why car chargers are must's

Posted by: angel_wing0

anyone want my ngage btw?

Posted by: nismo350

yeah.. i love my ngage.. but i have sell it 2 years ago..

Posted by: OS2Dust

I've had my N-gage QD since July 2004, I have very few complaints with the phone, and have defended it every single time with the same answer whenever someone had said my PSP this or that with the simple answer of, I can make a phone call on my N-gage, everything else your PSP can do I can do and I can make a phone call. I still play games on it but don't carry around 5 of them like I used to, the rubber ring has been gone for 3 years now and I've had to wedge a piece of paper behind the headphone jack because without it the handsfree profile keeps activating, but to that end it's a tough phone I still tend to drop it once a week because it falls out of my pocket at work or at home, I fall alsleep with it in my pocket without fear of waking up to a busted screen and when I pull it out and some one see it for the first time their still impressed by it and always gets the comment "it looks like a video game" and I smile and fire up what ever game is in it at the time

Posted by: angel_wing0

Posted by: angel_wing0

sad that there will be no ngage anymore..still sad.

Posted by: jMark

Take your phone to a t-mobile store. I do not think it is locked. Some cingular n-gages were not.
