About to pull a trigger on a Sharp 903sh...Questions, comparisons with Toshiba

I have been reading a lot of the Sharp forum and i have a few questions before i pull the trigger.

1. I am still a little confused, which firmware to get, but i am leaning towards Japan for all the extra bells&whistles. Please let me know if you disagree and why? I am ok with working a little harder with MP3's and a lack of T9.

2. Is there a difference between 2005 and 2006 903sh, once both unlocked and flashed with the same firmware. I see some e-pay vendors advertise "brand new 2006 903sh". Why is that a selling point and why it's supposed to be better?

3. I have included a couple of pictures taken with Toshiba 903T, and I have to tell you I am pretty impressed with the quality. Is Sharp 903sh going to take even better pictures than these? I saw some pictures all over the internet and they're impressive but maybe somone has a picture of a macro shot or a good upclose shot to compare. The reason why is that everyone seems to post those street shots and nature scene shots - and to be honest i am not impressed comparing to a regular nikon/canon photograph of a similar content.

THanks a lot in advance, i hope i didn't sound like a total newbie, even though this is my first post

903SH has a more solid build than the 904T i know for sure. The 903SH also has a greater fanbase, meaning you'll get help on HoFo sooner. The 903T is a fairly decent phone, but if you were to choose between the 903T and the 903SH i would go for the 903SH.

903sh takes better picture and everyone would agree to that. i believe you are referring to 904t not 903t right? 2005 or 2006 version, both are ok. and i think 2006 version is not a selling point cause the phone still has to be dismantled to be unlocked compared to older ones which is easier. for firmware well i use euro. japanese is good. i like the full screen wallpaper. i just hate entering space by the arrow key instead of the zero key which im used to.

1: If you visit Japan regularly or if you think having all the extra Japanese features is worth it, then go for Japanese firmware. The tradeoff is stuff like stability, reprovisioning, difficulty of using mp3s/video/ringtones etc, no T9 (although personally I don't like this feature), etc.
Most people that don't understand or have anything to do with Japanese go with the Euro firmware. Most other Japanese firmware features are either cosmetic or can't be used outside Japan I think.

2: I think one difference between 2005 and 2006 is the unlocking difficulty. Also, I've seen two styles of Japanese buttons. One is in the photo you provided, the other has italicised numbers and the alphabet/hiragana written in one line rather than one on top of the other. The people that sell the 2006 ones in my mind are just selling new ones so they are newer and cleaner. I don't know anything under the surface of that.

I'm in the process of deciding to buy a 903SH myself. What's slowing me down is the $$$$!
I'm sure you won't be disppointed with the 903SH.
Just do your research before buying. Good luck!

1- i got the euro 1.04 ..... and i always use the power+8 trick to switch between euro ( for the mp3 ringintones and the t9 ) and japanese frimware ( for the themes bla bla bla ,,,,, ) and trust me its working great thank god..... plus u can play games from ur SD with it

2- all i know about the 2006 903 that it was unlockable for a while !!! i didnt hear about any diff.

3- dont worry .... 903sh is better camera than any other mobile in the market.... whenever u think something is better just remember .... 2X OPTICAL ZOOM ( if u r talking about the 903T it doesnt have autofocus by the way )

Thanks a lot everyone for your responses.

I guess I am leaning towards JP firmware, and i saw the reprov issue was solved by someone here. Or maybe it works just like on vodafone 903t and 904t, all you gotta do is put some other sim in it and start/shutdown, then put your working sim in it restart and it will not ask for reprov. I am not sure but that's how it works on toshibas, my guess it would be the same for Sharp since they're all on the same Vodafone Japan, but that's just a guess.

Just to clearify, I used 903t to photograph those pictures including a shot of 904t. 903t does have an autofocus and 904t doesn't

Cheers

In regards to the Non-repro 903SH JP firmware, you'll have to either PM Timsta on this forum, or visit www.umobileco.com (Tim's website) to get him to flash it for you. Be prepared to pay for the privilege though.

also, i hear that if you ever swap sims, the repro thing comes back

There you go, quick a dirty couple of shots with toshiba 903t. one of my favorite Pams i have, PAM00001, wearing it today.

TIMSTA: Do you have a permanent version of no reprov, even if you swap sims back and forth? Or do you use the one where you JP flash, then Euro flash, hard reset and then back to JP flash method of getting rid of reprov issue on JP firmware until you swap for another sim and the reprov is back???
Because if you figured out a permanent riddance of reprov on JP firmare - i am buying the phone from you.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. One last question: is it possible to find the all-black version that was made for HK market???

Thanks again

im tempted to sell my 904T because the 903T -has- autofocus which makes pictures a WHOLE lot better.... does the 903SH or 904SH have autofocus? I wonder if they will accept a trade in for my 904T *scratches chin*

Posted by: sketch143

902sh 903sh and 904sh all have autofocus

Posted by: totaltoanage

all sharp 90X models have autofocus, sharp invented the autofocus for camera phones...hell camera phones in general.

Posted by: Timsta

which is why sharp is the best camera phone in the world *hides from all the sonyericsson and nokia fans*
