Sorry... I don't spoon feed.

If you want to know how to do it... you need to LEARN HOW to do it.. and that means RESEARCHING... WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW I LEARNED!! I looked at thread titles, found the ones that appeared to relate to what I wanted... dug in, and READ...

Mark, I have the V3m Verison RZr and have been all over those threads for three days and have tried them to the letter. Except the one that uses bitpim to remove the db. I can play the mp3 but not assign it as a ringtone. It only give sme the option to move or rename. I saw a couple other people having this same problem and no one acknowledged it. I even tried some variations of my own with no sucess. I know my way around a computer and have even built a few but why this is working for some and not others is a mystery to me. I have followed DJ's steps and can get the recording to work as a ringtone but not after I have copy and pasted the name on the trans flash card. I don't expect a reply but want others to know they are not alone. I didn'tquote the exact steps, as you know what they are but i did follow the instructions EXACTLY!

Not that I don't trust you, but you'd be suprised how many poeple say "latest version" only to find its NOT, or "I've followed the steps exactly" only to find out they are missing something... Why do you think my post count is so high?? (in April 2005 when I got my V710, I had aprox 220 posts... now, 1.5yrs later? nearly 6000!!)

Latest example -> http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=974979 He followed the steps "exactly" but was missing PST or MSU to suspend the phone for P2KSeem to connect... Even AFTER I questioned him....

So, I'm going to ask you type up EXACTLY what steps you've tried so we can see if 1. either you missed something, or 2. those instructions you've followed dont work.

Remember.. I don't have a V3M to try some of this stuff (one big reason some of the V3M Specific stuff is not on my pages!!)... so I am going on what poeple in other threads have posted...

Btw, I wouldn't mess with putting Ringtones on the TF card... I mean, if you take the TF card out, what does the phone use as the ring tone?? Besides, if you follow those steps, record a voice memo, move to tf, overwite with... ??? TO COMPLICATED too many places for errors... To me, its not worth the hassle..

Consider this... on my E815.. I set the default storage location for Pix and Video to my TF card... only my Caller ID pix, and my "home made" ring tones are in the phone's memory... Wall Papers, Mp3's, movies/tv shows, etc.. all on the TF card... I have 183 ring tones in 15meg of memory in the phone's memory, plus about 15 or 20 caller id pix.. and I still have main memory in the phone free.

Considering the V3C and V3M have about 30meg free to start with... using 15-20 meg for ringtones and caller id pix, and put everything else on the TF card should NOT be a problem for anyone...

I got my cable last night an managed to get everything going. Verizon V3m
Used MSU,P2KSeem, and Motorola Phone Tools. Installed MSU and Phone Tools. Ran the updates and my phone got successfully detected and installed as a modem.

Ran MSU and then P2KSeem. Did the seem edit where you change bit 0 to enable access to the phone through MPT. You can find the specifics for that on the forums if you don't already have that information by now.

Did all my editing to enable the things I wanted and to change the carrier logo and all that jazz.

Here's a step I found I had to follow when using the latest MPT. Someone mentioned editing the drivers. Changing the V3m in the detect.inf file in the Motorola Phone Tools directory and changing the driver entry to V3cm I believe, and the model to V3mm. If you don't then you can't add ring tones because the media manager thing won't be active.

Once you change the detect.inf entries plug your phone in. Mine said it couldn't detect and wanted me to pick manually. I went in, chose V3m from the CDMA phones selection, and YAY!!! IT WORKED! So I then began to copy over massive amounts of ringtones and wallpapers.

Rather than modifying the detect.inf you can just not update phone tools.

In a nutshell
Install P2KSeem, Motorola Phone Tools 4.0 and live update it to newest, install the MSU update tool. Run the modem driver utility to get the proper drivers installed for the phone. Plug it in. It should detect and install properly, if it doesn't re-run the modem drivers. It should be 4.21a or something like that. Run MSU. Wait for it to detect and install about 4 or 5 things. Once it has your ESN listed with the other 2 fields saying N/A you can run P2KSeem. Perform your seem edits. All you really need is the one to enable MPT access.

Save and reboot your phone and most likely MPT wants you to reboot your PC. Edit detect.inf as I mentioned earlier. Its explained better in another thread. Manually pick your phone as V3m. You're done.

I think that covers it. I was really tired when I did all that junk last night so I'm a lil foggy on what all I went through in the process of changing all the startup screens and banners and what not.

I'm waiting for the E-***** slap here... but...
Is there no way to move ringtones over from the TF card?
(even if I can't move them, it would be nice to SEE them...)
I have sound forge so making them is pie.
But the ones that work on my 710 the razr won't even show???
I even reformatted the card in the v3m and moved them back on the card.
nada...
tried every common sound related folder...
nada...
It won't even show them.
Bah...
(Its probably because I'm an idiot)
I'm trying to avoid the whole MPT/seem editing thing... guess I have no choice...
See what you made me do Verizon?

A couple of things of note...

The Transflash on the V3M is not used the same as on your V710...

The V710 you'd put the sounds/mp3's in /motorola/shared/audio the phone's media gallery/sounds could see/play them/add them to play lists, etc... Pictures could be placed in /motorola/shared/pictures, and videos/movies placed in /mtorola/shared/video

The V3M... becuase it syncs with Windows Media Player and uses the Verizon UI, Does not have that ability with MP3's....

On the V3M, if you want play lists, and "music player" type features, you must use the Verizon Music Player which only plays WMA files on that phone... The WMA's must be put in the /MY_MUSIC folder on the card, or you must sync the phone with WMA to get them there...

For MP3's, other sounds, pictures, and videos/movies... the default location on the V3M is the ROOT of the TF card... Put them anywhere else, and the phone wont seem them... BUT you can change this... (good idea since the card is formatted as FAT)... see ITEM #35 on the HOW TO's at http://mark.cdmaforums.com

as for the menu options of copying/moving sounds between the TF and phone's memory... Again, I don't have a V3M, so I don't know if its disabled on the V3M like it was on the V710 (firmware 1.40 and above) or the E815...

My 710 is the original.
I haven't had to edit it to get it to do what I want.
Some hiding tones as midi's...
But its painless.

The thing is this.
Moto isn't really doing it for me with their current lineup.
The v3m is tolerable... at best...
But I just soldered in a charging port in my 710 from another moto cause mine was toast.
Its on its absolute last breath.
I HAVE to get another phone...
I WANT it to be moto...

But I want to be able to do kinda what I want atleast... sheesh...
Alot of this stuff is beyond me.
Cars... no sweat.
Phones? Thats just the J O B.
So I apologize for my pitiful questions and horrible newb-ness.

And I deeply appreciate the answers.

I was soooo naive and brainless when it came down to this seem edit stuff and the acronyms gave me a headache alone BUT after printing out the instructions at http://mark.cdmaforums.com and REALLY reading them for a full day piece by piece I got it to work on my V3M phone....ringtones (BITPM) was really what i was trying to change and I'm so proud of myself. Now I'm trying to figure out what else I can do short of blowing up my phone.

JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT IF YOU READ THE INTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM TO THE 'T', IT WILL WORK ON YOUR V3M.

If you have MPT, it will be even easier.
