How to get CU500 if not in a 3G area?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Instead of searching through 20+ pages on the LG cu500 and getting mixed responses, i was wondering where the people got this phone who aren't in a 3g area. I'm actually nowhere near a 3G area (about 1 1/2hr from philly) but i really like this phone and was wondering how i could get it wihtout resorting to ebay or b/s/t forums.

i'm also out of contract and might want to use my upgrade for this.

i don't use data either but that may change

goto Philly. if you dont want to go Ebay thats the only way i see unless someone here sells theirs, but goto a Aera with 3g and a cingular store they should have it. Why cant you place an order from you local cingular store.

Posted by: chonga

is philly 3g enabled?

Posted by: boston_errol

you can check on teh cingular coverage map..

but just curious... why do you want this phone if you aren't going to use 3G/Data?

I called every COR store in the Cincinnati area, and they all say they can't custom order the phone from their store.

Supposedly, customer care can sell you one.

For those of you interested in not paying High Dollar on Ebay... and are not in a 3G Area (Quick look I see $350+) here is how I got the phone.

I called Customer Service, got to the upgrade equipment department, told them I was trying to order the phone through the website without extending my contract but couldn't figure it out so I figured id call in. She said ok no problem I can put that through for you, she found the phone almost instantly told me how great it was. We went through the process got credit card number, verified address asked if I wanted a new sim. She said she would send me one anyways not sure if you need a new sim for 3g? I think 64k sim should be fine.

At any rate, that's how I did it, good luck! :-) I almost bought one on ebay but gave it another try.

The 64K sim is fine because it has the words 3G, i think

But what if you are eligible for the upgrade?

I was, so i called a store in San Antonio (a 3g area) and spoke with a manager there. I told him my story, and sure enough, he took my info, and added the phone to my account. He overnighted it and it should be here today! I also got the 179.99 with 50 MIR. You may want to try that...worked for me.

Posted by: cheatah

The full price was $249.00 + Tax without contract, she told me if I upgraded my phone it would be 149.99 and had to get the media works 19.99 bundle but I already have that.

Posted by: albertr

I just called CC and ordered one for $149.99 - $50.00 mail-in rebate (I was elegible for phone upgrade). I'm located in PA (no 3G here yet), but obviously all they want is to make a sale, they even didn't warn me about 3G or lack of thereof. Phone is orderable in their system, so anyone who wants one can try to call them up to get one.

did you have to sign up for medianet packagE?

Posted by: albertr

No, but I had one already. They didn't ask me any questions, the guy who took the order just checked his computer system, found the phone and took my credit card info. Very easy and quick process.

Just tried (via calling 611), and the rep couldn't find it. (sold out?). He suggested a store.

Posted by: theGrue

Just got one for $150 from calling 611 (I've had my current phone for over two years). Sweeeeet.

It was the 4th rep I'd talked to.

man I talked to everyone but Stan Sigman no luck they all could find the phone but said it was not in there ordering system

Available here in the Bay Area. I was in the Livermore store (580 @ N 1st Street exit) today and they had it in stock for $280 + tax with no contract and $180 - $50 MIR for upgrade + 2 year extension. I was tempted but I decided to think and research it some more first.

I did the same thing and got the same price when I called in on 7/17 in the morning. The pricing was with a 2yr contract extension and I had already signed up for an Unlimited Media net plan with the plan of getting this phone. The call center I got was down in Orange County, CA and they didn't know about the phone yet so there were a couple of people looking the information up to fill the order. When they asked if I wanted to check availability at a local store (which doesn't have them and not avail on the website for my zip) I just asked them to direct ship priority. They included a new 3g sim on the order since they weren't sure if i'd need one or not. So far I'm liking it a LOT better than my razr v3 that was flipping out.

I called customer service on Tues 7/18 and received Friday the 21st even though I am not in a 3G market. No questioned asked what so ever.

I'm technically not in a 3g area, even though the cingular 3g coverage map shows that I am, and I still got the phone online the day it came out. I live maybe 10 miles from 3g though.

I live in Metro Detroit and it doesn't list it on the regular Cingular website, but on my Premier website from my school discount it does list it.
