z520a - disable camera sound?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: DonnaDeath

Hi,

Is there any way to disable the camera noise that my phone makes when it takes a picture? Its quite annoying when you're just trying to take a photo and you get this huge noise that makes everyone's head turn...

Posted by: nave462000

turn it on silent mode...or flash and check the option box on TMS/davinci

Posted by: DonnaDeath

thanks for your help, but turning it on silent does not work. I actually recieved a reply from sony ericsson support and they said it was a feature of the phone that you can't turn the sound off on the camera. stupid if you ask me...

now, i'm a noob, so flashing it means i need to run that software on that davinci page and pay $12 to reset my phone?

Posted by: w000t

if you have a DCU-60, you can use FAR Manager to edit your customize.xml so that you can mute the shutter sound in silent mode.

Posted by: cbarnett

Please elaborate on this FAR Manager thing. Is this it: http://www.download.com/3000-2248-10027510.html

Are you telling me that I can just hook up to the Z520 with a USB cable, and edit config files? Where's the FAQ on that?

Posted by: BoaR

w000t, dont know if you still around to reply but i was wondering how to remove the shutter noise aswel using FAR, i did pay for TMS credits to remove the sound, it's cheaper and does the same shyt. Tell us man, how do you remove the shutter noise using FAR? as far as i know the sony ericsson z520's phones aren't supported yet.

Posted by: w000t

yes you can remove the shutter as well with FAR.

you have to go to fs/tpa/preset/custom and copy the customize.xml to your computer. then make a backup of that file.

now, you have to find

Code:
<camera> <suppress-camera-sound>false</suppress-camera-sound> </camera>

and make it

Code:
<camera> <suppress-camera-sound>true</suppress-camera-sound> </camera>

then delete the customize.xml on your phone and replace it with the edited one. then exit far and power up. then you have to do a master reset (don't have to do reset all, just reset settings). voila!

Posted by: BoaR

can i do that with the bluetooth software using the BlueTooth Serial Port Service?

i was at this site yesterday ( site ) and downloaded the files to run FAR, the bluetooth serial port is active on COM port 8, i guess i could choose that COM port on Sony Ericsson Flash plugin settings? any ideas where to get a z520i Booth script?

Posted by: BoaR

i have a cable similar to the DCU-60 cable, it is called 2in1 Multiserver cable, looks the same to me, any chances i could use it?

Unfortunately most new camera phones had to have this feature (the sound) because of concerns about voyeuristic photos being taken in locker rooms, beaches, etc.

i'm not too sure if it works. give it a try.

Cover your speaker. =)!

Posted by: BoaR

w000t, got the DCU-60 cable, trying to figure why it's not working, i removed the SIM card, replaced the battery, holded 'C' button and plugged the DCU-60 cable on the phone, far manager waits for the phone to respond but without notice FAR manager puts be back on the same screen i see when i load it, no phone FS side.. i dont see the content of my phone on the left side..

Posted by: w000t

hmm you didn't need to remove SIM, but i don't think that's what's causing the problem.

did you install the SEUS drivers?

Posted by: BoaR

which Boot Script do i have to use?

edit: Well i choosed the 'z' script and it worked, lol, i have the phone file system on the left side, woohoo, wonder if someone tried running linux on the same phone now

edit: geez, choosed the FS folder and i received an ERROR message saying: Script fs_mode execution error! Error code: 0

Posted by: BoaR

nvm, it's working.

Posted by: rznhll

I have read everything thread on how to disable the shutter sound on a z520a. I have far manager and every driver installed. I get the error saying: Script fs_mode execution error! Error code: 0

I am using the z800 script connecting with device DCU-60 and have tried almost every different connections speed.

Can anyone offer some insight into what I am doing wrong

Hey everyone, I wanted to thank the people on this thread for all the advice on getting rid of that stupid shutter noise. What I really wanted when I first visited though was a step-by-step tutorial about HOW to do all this. So, after stumbling through the whole process, here it is:

---

The mission: To modify the configuration.xml file as outlined in the thread above.

The requirements:
The steps:
  1. Install the FAR Manager, PC Suite, and SEUS software. Restart your computer.
  2. Extract the Flash Plugin for FAR Manager zip file to the installation directory for FAR Manager\Plugins
  3. Turn on the phone, and hook it up to the USB cable and your computer (It's USB 2.0 BTW so if you have a USB 2.0 port you'll see a gain in speed). Windows will prompt you for drivers - you should point it to the directory where you extracted the USB driver files. You'll have four (4) devices to install - make sure they're all there.
  4. Unplug the phone and turn it off.
  5. Hold down "C" and plug in the USB cable. It'll take longer to start-up as this puts it into "Flash writing" mode.
  6. Windows will prompt you again for another driver to be installed, just let it "automatically search for drivers" - it should find them in the system as they were installed with the SEUS software. If it fails, you'll have to go into device manager and seek out the "Unknown Device" listed underneath your USB devices, uninstall it, and try the sequence again. It'll say the device drivers aren't signed - nobody cares, click "Continue Anyway" to continue.
  7. Unplug the phone again and turn it off. We're ready for surgery.
  8. Start up FAR Manager, and hit F11 and select "SEFP 0.10.0.44"
  9. You'll want to use the "DCU-60" device, on "921600" speed, with "[X] RTS" and "[X] DTR", and the Boot Script is "k750_w800_CID36"
  10. [ Enter The Matrix ]
  11. It'll prompt you to plug-in your phone. You should hold down the "C" button (just like before) and plug it in. The FAR Manager should recognize the phone and do all sorts of crazy scripty stuff. The left side of the screen should have a "FLASH" and an "FS" directory. We're inside the phone. Ready to hack.
  12. Navigate with your mouse to the following directory on the phone: FS/tpa/preset/custom (this might take a little work to navigate since, after all, it's a cellphone).
  13. You should now see a bunch of files - one of which is the coveted "configuration.xml". Download it by selecting it with your mouse and hitting "F5". It'll prompt you to save it in a location - the interface is kind of screwy, just hit OK and it'll dump it to your FAR Manager directory.
  14. Alright, we're back to the computer again. Navigate to your FAR Manager directory and open up configuration.xml in a text editor (Notepad will do - we're not changing a lot).
  15. At the very bottom, you'll see a line that reads "<suppress-camera-sound>false</suppress-camera-sound>". Change it to "<suppress-camera-sound>true</suppress-camera-sound>"
  16. Save the file. You're a master hacker now. Pat yourself on the back. Time to get the file back on the phone.
  17. Back in FAR Manager, highlight the configuration.xml on the RIGHT side of the screen (the local copy). Hit F5 and just hit "OK" - it'll copy it to the current directory on the phone (FA/tpa/preset/custom)
  18. On the left side of the screen in FAR manager, click all the way back on the ".." entries until you get to the root of the phone. It'll ask you if you want to shut down CSFS Loader. You say "YES".
  19. Okay, so we have edited the file, put it on the phone - now what? Oh, I forgot to mention, I just broke your phone. It won't turn on anymore - go ahead, try it. It's stuck. We should probably remedy that situation. You'll need to disconnect the USB cable, and slide the back cover off and remove the battery. Wait 5 seconds, then put it back in again. Hit the power button - it'll take a couple extra seconds to start up, but don't worry that's completely normal.
  20. The phone lives! And the file is on there! But we're not done yet - we still have to reset the camera so it starts using the file. To do this, we go into the "Settings" panel on the phone. On the first tab, go to the bottom where it says "Master Reset". You want to "Reset Settings" (WARNING: Do NOT select "Reset All" as you will lose ALL DATA on your phone!) Once selected, it tells you that it'll perform a restart of the phone. Say yes. It'll restart.
  21. Your phone is now officially "hacked" - the shutter noise is still there when the camera isn't on silent, but if you hold down "#" for a few seconds to put it into silent mode and try out the camera - TA DA! No shutter noise!

So, in conclusion, I wanted to thank the good people of this thread, and the good people over here for all the help. Much obliged.

- Jeff

how do you replace it?

Posted by: BoaR

easy, just replace it with another sound, you can even record your voice on the phone, than use FAR to backup your voice sound, then reupload your voice sound after renaming it to the same name as the default camera sound. Either you can say CHEEZ!, or SAY CHEEZ!, or SMILE!, or MUAHAHAHAH!, you get the point... even though i tried it, the camera takes the picture before CHEEZ is pronounced so you better get another CLICK type of sound, i recommend disabling it or just completely deleting the camera sound, it's awesome, now i can take pictures of my friends while they sleep with a spiderman mask on without then knowing!.. priceless/.

Will this work with a USB-Bluetooth adapter?

I'm just recently bought a sony w700i
and I was wondering if the shut off shutter sound process can also be aplied for this phone?
Because yeah it's quite annoying and loud!

After reading through a few forums, I was under the impression your phone wasn't supported, but it actually might be. After reading the Wikipedia entry ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_W700 ), it seems that your phone is really a 'W800' in disguise. That means when we're talking about using my above technique, you'll want to read the next few articles by replacing 'W800' with 'W700i' in your head.

Some information on your phone:(Note: You have the "CID49" filesystem and the "DB2010" hardware platform for the W700i)

Initially, the CID49 filesystem couldn't be hacked. I think there's been a somewhat recent breakthrough on the topic however.

I believe there is really one general approache to doing this. I don't have any experience with this (since I only have a z520a), so you'll probably have to do some reading/seek out help in other forums:

First off: I think there's a tutorial on how to do all of this. Read it carefully.
First Step: Flash Your Main Firmware

You'll need XS++, which can be found here:
You'll also need one set of the drivers for your phone. Before deciding which one to download, you'll want to gather some basic information on your phone. To do this, download XS++ above, turn off your phone, hold down 'C' and plug in the USB cable. It should then give you the (much needed) details on your phone, such as which EROM Color you have, which region you have, which CDA you have, and which Firmware you have.

Second Step: Modify SEFP/FAR Manager and download firmware/scripts

You'll need to modify FAR Manager and the SEFP package to support CID49 (the method as I described it above, will only work with CID36 phones).
1) You will need to do everything I said above, plus also download http://sephone.nm.ru/tools/sefp010051.rar and install *over* the SEFP driver from the above tutorial I wrote. (i.e. install SEFP010044.zip AND sefp010051.rar)

2) As far as I understand it, you may be able to utilize the W800 scripts to access the phone in FAR manager (i.e. you can probably use the 'K750_W800_CID49' script), but you probably don't want to try and flash your phone using the W800 firmware or drivers - unless you're feeling lucky.

3) You'll need to download the correct files for your phone. If you used XC++ and grabbed the information from your phone, pay attention to the line "EROM Color:". This will be either "brown" or "red". Based on that, you'll need to download the correct package from the above article. I think you'll need the bottom link: 'db2010cid49_4_alpha.rar.zip' for a 'red' phone, but be sure to check out what XS++ tells you before downloading. (Note: The file extension on the download is wrong - you'll need to change it to a .RAR file).

Past that, follow the tutorial I linked at the top, and you should be okay.

Best of luck,

- Jeff

Thanks for your efforts and detailed reply.
i'm going to let you know how it goes

Audiolight (or Jeff),

Thanks a million for your very clear tutorial on the z520a, posted on 10-06-2006, 23:29, it worked like a charm.

The only difference, on my phone, was that the file was named "customize.xml" instead of "configuration.xml" but anyone who attempts this kind of work should be able to figure that one out.

I'm going the search this forum to see if I can now also unlock my phone using similar techniques and also what all the other 'junk' in customize.xml can do for me.

Thanks again

Yomet

what exactly does it mean install thhat new sefp folder ''over'' the sefp driver...what do you mean by 'over' , ive read this in other forums too, you mean replace?

Posted by: K Royal

It means replace it. It has a old sefp plugin, so you need to remplace it with the new one.

thanks a lot!
