Buying a new phone. Need help.

Ok, I need a new phone. Looking for something with 1+ MP camera, mp3 player, speaker phone, internal antenna, and removable memory. On a GSM network with T-mobile.
A clamshell, slider, or the swivel type. (Nokia, Samsung, Sony, Motorola)

I'm in college so I don't want to spend TOO much, but want the most bang for my buck (250 USD). I've been looking around everywhere and ended up on here. And everyone seems so knowledgable that I just want some opinions.

I was looking at the Motorola V635 but it seems like an old phone. Haha, I have NO clue about new phones except what I learned a these last couple of days. The Sony Ericsson w500 and w600 seem ok, but was just looking at more options out there.

And none of that Razr and Sidekick 3 stuff either.

Thanks for to those who reply.

Sony Ericsson K750i has all your prefrences and is definetly bang for the buck

Not a flipphone though. I carry my phone in my pocket.

The K750 is not a flip phone...

The Samsung E900 is pretty cool,

Its small, compact, stylish slide phone...great camera. I'm not sure on the prices for the USA though

E900's are 335-360 USD

You really need to visit a website that compares phones and features to help you narrow your search.

After visiting just about every cell phone information resource website I could find (phonescoop, Lowermybills, and a bunch of others) I came across a site that does a great job of side by side comparison of any model, style, price, features, carrier and just about any other filtering criteria you can think of! www.phonedog.com.

I wound up going with the VX8300 from Verizon. Its probably the best phone I have owned so far.

I really like the MP3 player (even though it only plays WMA files)

I was teetering between the Razr v3c and the Treo 700.
I just couldn't justify carrying around the bulky Treo and the Razr although thin was to big for my taste.

Good luck

www.gsmarena.com
do a quick search (top of page) just click the enter button

I know that I should compare. But it does me better when actual people tell me how some of the phones are because they own them. I just learned about WSOD is and slowly learning new stuff. Didn't know you can actually "hack" into your phone. I'd still like people's opinions on phones.

Also try www.gsmarena.com

They have everything under the sun about mobiles etc. You can't buy from here but its a great source of info.

sorry feoch, I've just opened my eyes and seen your post!

w800i sounds like a good match, and i think you could find one new for arround that price (try plemix.com).

Well, I decided on a Samsung e770. It was that or the Samsung e730. Hope this all goes well.

Eeewww..

The Samsung T809 would probably have been your best bet. Its insanely slick and small. Has everything else you asked for, and roams on Cingular's 850 network... which means it will have better signal than all the other non 850 phones.

Posted by: toastman

Everyone I know has that phone. So, I didn't want to be part of the crowd. And I'm on T-Mobile so I don't think I need 850. Or do I?

Well yea, like I said, T-Mobile roams on Cingular's 850 network when needed.

Posted by: toastman

Doesn't that charge roaming though?

How is your reception on Cingular without the 850?

I don't have Cingular? I'm on T-Mobile.

Thanks for all those phones. Will look into them.

Posted by: toastman

Well, I'm going to ask here.

Is it better if I get the Bluetooth Dongle or the USB cord for the e770 to transfer mp3's and other stuff, or just use the microSD?
And do I need to upgrade the firmware? I think that's what it's called.

i no tht u dont have cingular all of the phones i listed are compatible withy tmobile

If you are able to transfer your data via the Mini SD chip do it!

You simply can just drag and drop your songs and pictures on and off the chip at will.

If you have more than one phone and they are both bluetooth enabled (I'm going to assume that only one phone has the SD chip) then it would be prudent to get the bluetooth dongle and software to upload and download your data.

A USB cable is a waste simply because you are unlikey to be able to use it on any other phone than the one you currently own.

I hope this helps you out!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'll just use the micrcoSD.
