MP3 Ringtones On The LG CU-500?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Greetings all.

I’ve had the LG-CU500 since last Friday, and can’t seem to figure something out. I’d like to know if there is an easy way to use MP3’s as ringtones. A fellow HoFoer recommended a third party application called Audacity, but honestly, I was hoping there might be another way to accomplish this without having to download an additional application. I tried lowering the bit rate on an imported MP3 down to 128, but still got the “file size too large” error message when I tried to use it as a ringtone.

Is anyone having success using MP3’s for ringtones on the CU-500, and if so, how are you doing it?

Thanks!

yes I have gotten it to work. Sounds like you need to trim them down. You can't apply full length songs as ringtones. I use the program you mentioned, Audacity. I didn't have to change the bit rate on any of them, but you will have to trime it to a segment of the song.

they have to be under 600K from what I read.

Hmm. I'm too lazy to make MP3 ringers myself. Heh. I just moved all my ringers over from my w600i via Bluetooth. And I downloaded those primarily from my favorite ringer site.

Trim the file down to around 25 seconds, or however long your phone rings for. Then export as mp3. You will need to download lame, and locate that file when exporting. You will only need to do this the first time. After that audacity will find lame on it's own.

You will see what I'm talking about when you do it.

when you open an mp3, you will see 2 bars with the song in them, the right and left. Click play to listen to the song when you need to hear it.

there are a couple ways to trim.

1. highlight want you don't want in it, and click "cut", I believe it is under the "edit" menu. I don't have a version here so I can't verify. Keep cutting until you have what you want.

2. highlight what you DO want, and click "trim", I believe this is also under the "edit" menu.
