Anyone had both a CU500 and Nokia 6131(6126) yet?

I've been waiting for the 6126 to launch to switch to Cingular, but now I'm wondering if the CU500 is a worthy alternative. Anyone had both the 6131 and the CU500 to compare? I'm very interested in how these 2 phones stack up against each other. Thanks!!

That's the comparison I'm looking forward to also!

I'm looking for this comparison as well!

i was considering them both. i was sooo close to getting a 6126. the advantages for the 6131:

No crippled java
Bigger screen
slightly smaller
better keypad

LG:
3g
mp3 player with music buttons
swivel camera
a tiny bit thinner and lighter

basicly if you want a good phone without the 3g get the 6131. if you want a good phone WITH 3G get the lg...

Doesn't the 6131 have a 16 million color screen?

Posted by: LoFo

me too!!

I was waiting for the CU500, and if it had video calling....

Now the only thing holding me back on the 6131 is the price. I'm hoping the 6126 will cost even less than the CU500. As this will be the wife's phone, it is more about comfort and style than features. But cheaper is better for me

Unless of course the 6126 delay is due to the introduction of something like WMA+, which was promised by Nokia about 18 months ago. If the 6126 comes with WMA+ then I'm going for it, no questions asked.

Please note that this is not a rumor, just a wish. I'm not in the business and I don't know anyone.

If I had to choose one, I'd go with the CU500 right now. But who knows how the 6126 will perform in comparison to the 6131.

bostonirishguy, can you elaborate at all? I've heard nothing but good things about the 6131 and so far the CU500 seems promising. Could you possibly list some of the pros/cons of each from your standpoint? I'm mainly interested in a device that is a great PHONE over everything else (RF, volume level, sound quality, UI, phonebook, texting, bluetooth headset connectivity/quality, battery life, etc). I could care less about camera, music or watching video on my phone, as I have much better devices for each of those functions. Thanks!!

they both seem fairly similar... in terms of phone quality, only big difference is 3g

I finally got my 3G SIM activated, so I can use full functionality of the device.I think you really can't go wrong with either. RF on both has been great for me. One thing I've noticed with the CU500 is the building penetration with 3G doesn't seem to be as strong in my office downtown. I get the 3G symbol, but either zero or one bar. But I can still make and receive calls without any issues. I think the CU500 has a louder earpiece overall, though I find the 6131 more than adequate (I know some have complained). Battery life on the CU500 is too early to comment on. My 6131 is average in that department.

Some quirks I can think of (so far):
6131
clicking in the earpiece when making a call (during the ring)
set up of SMS/VM/MMS

CU500
ascending ringtone on incoming call
when making a call, the ring starts off low and then hits "regular" volume

I'll have more to share when I get to use it (CU500) more. I'd be interested to see what the 6126 is like in comparison to the 6131, too. Perhaps it will ship in August.

The ascending ringtone is one thing that always annoyed me with my old T616. Is there anyway to change this in the settings on the cu500?

Any further thoughts BostonIrish? Thanks!

I don't think the cu500 has voice dialing... This was the #1 reason for me to go with a different phone (ordered 6131).

The short of it - between the 6131 and CU500, get a CU500.

I have both. I like the idea of the 6126, but got fed up with the delay, sprung for an unlocked 6131 and received it and a 6270 a couple of weeks ago. The look and feel of the 6131 is that it's a refined device. The 6131 and 6270 both have large buttons, great looking screens, and a great interface (I can even deal with the UK English spelling!). Set up of MMS wasn't a big deal with the Nokia configurator. I wanted to get my mom a phone like the 6131 because of the interface and ease of use. I was sorely disappointed, however, by both static during the call and poor voice quality on both ends of the calls I made. Every call I made had static pops and the people on the other end said that the voice quality was very tinny. And, to top it off, the voice mail icon stayed on and wouldn't go off, which I could live with.

About the LG phone, I'm on my second phone in 5 days, however, I think that the first one was used when I bought it with NC from a LCS. The first phone had a few MMS messages and couple of photos in it. I don't like the phone book - it's not vCard-friendly and I experienced the wavering voice quality with the first phone; the CU500 I have is free of the dynamic volume, however, I've had the replacement for only a day. I've figured out the interface, it's just not what I'm used to and took a little reading to get up to speed.

I'll be putting the 6131 up for sale in the next few days, not sure about the 6270 just yet. I don't know where the 6131 was made ("Made by Nokia" is what the label says). Maybe it's just not talking to the PDX network well; we are new to Cingular - it might do better elsewhere.

My 2 cents!

Thanks guys...anyone else have further comments to share? I know there must be more people who've had both phones by now.

I have both phones. They're both excellent, with one big differentiating factor: battery life on the 6131 is shockingly bad.

Thanks. The features that matter most to me are:

RF (lots of weak signal areas around here)
Loudness (need to be able to hear in a noisy environment)
Voice quality (incoming & outgoing)
Battery life (needs to last all day with ~2 hours worth of calls and a few texts)
Slim form factor (pocketable without the "bulge")

I could care less about screen resolution, camera, music, etc. I need a phone that is a great PHONE over everything else.

So aside from battery life, would you say the 6131 and CU500 are pretty much equal in most of these areas? Comments would be greatly appreciated from anyone who has had both phones.

Thanks!!

I currently use the LG CU500, but had the 6131 briefly. I prefer the LG for several reasons:
1. My area (partly) has 3G.
2. Much louder/clearer earpiece. Arguably the loudest phone I have ever owned.
3. Even though LG doesn't have a strong history in the GSM market, this phone seems solidly built.
4. Dedicated music control buttons.

I would say they seem similar in most areas. More different in cosmetics than anything. Both are pretty nice, neither has blown me away or anything, but I could use both long term I think. I must say that I really hate the indented screen on the Nokia though, harder to clean. Why would they do that anyway? A level screen makes much more sense.

mistWalker, I can't say I agree with you at all that the CU500 is loud. I am not going to call it quiet, but the loudest phone you have ever owned? Not by a long shot to me I don't think. It didn't even stand out volume wise.

I have to agree here. It might be the loudest phone I have ever owned. The stereo speakers are very loud. Used as a MP3 player, the volume is very good, as good as any run of the mill MP3 player I have used. The best MP3 sound, I have ever used on a phone. I am currently using the Qtek 8500, and the speakers are quaint compared to the Cu500, not even good enough for MP3 use in my opininon. Not many phones have qualitystereo sound or stereo sound or speakers for that matter, the Cu500 does.

If you hack the gain table, any Moto can be made into the loudest phone on the planet. If you don't hack, then the CU500 is one loud, loud phone.
