GD87 - Reception in low coverage areas?

I'm looking at getting a GD87 for my next phone, but I have a problem...

I live in an area that has low coverage (1-2 bars at most). While I know that bars of coverage on a phone are not a solid indicator of performance, the best phones I have had used so far have been the Nokia 6610 and the Motorola T720i.

I have found both of these phones to be clear and have good voice quality while in my area.

I've read conflicting reports on reception for the GD87, some praising it, others saying that you could have problems making and receiving calls under a tree (uk.gsmbox.com).

Based on this, and not wanting to make a rather expensive mistake, I thought I would ask for the advice of this group.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I do not have GSM coverage where I live, so I am frequently using mine on the edge of the coverage line (near the wal-mart of course). It works fine around one bar when the terrain is open. In a building, with one bar, it is not so good because of multipath and ghosting issues, but then again, no phone works well there. The bars are not standard either. What is one bar on one mobile does not mean the same as one bar on another. I am very happy with the low signal performance of GD87. Especially as compared to the V60 and the T68 mobiles.

I've had the phone for about a month and I must say it works great. The reception is much better than my old T68 and in some instances even better that my old T28. Apparently with the new software upgrades the reception improves too. I have version A16 but I will upgrade as soon as I get the chance.
