What does the keypad look like on the V3I. I keep hearing they are different from the V3 but on Cingular and Motos website they look identical. Is the V3I resemble the Krzr? Someone please post a pic of the difference.

Posted by: Maverick05

if you look on Moto's webiste you will see the difference...
basically, if take say the row of number 1 2 3: ____ ____
On the V3 it looks like this..........................| 1 | 2 |3 |

On the V3i it looks like this 1\2/3

I looked on the motorola site, double checked and the V3 and the V3i has the same kepypad layout?

Posted by: Cltx11

I heard there is a difference on the Razr's but I never have seen the |1|2|3| numbers excpet for on the Krzrs???

Posted by: Maverick05

the v3 and v3i are definitely very different. try going to phonescoop.com and looking at pictures of the two keypads... the main differencei s that all the numbers on teh v3 has vertical lines on the outside lef t and right of the pohne, by the edges, the v3i does not, the straight lines go out all the way to the edges... if you look side by side it is really difficult to miss

Posted by: Cltx11

V3i pic http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/zoom.php?p=829&g=1
V3 pic http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/zoom.php?g=1&p=953
V3xx pic http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/zoom.php?g=1&p=1086
Only difference I see is the soft keys?

V3xx is really obvious. Am I missing something here?

the v3 pic you're looking at isn't the v3, it's the v3m which IS like the v3i without the middle menu button.

engadget mobile is calling this phone "low to mid-range." Granted, it should probably have a 2.0 megapixel camera... and yes, phones such as the MAXX are more advanced, what exactly is it lacking to make it a high end 3G phone?

Anubis,
Any changes/updates? Thanks!!!

Ditto. I wonder if the stores have them yet, and if both the gold and gray will be sold from day 1.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

Nope, not in stores just yet!

I understand that shipments have been sent and only the grey will be out on Friday. The gold should Come first week in Feb.

Posted by: augmach5

Lets just hope it has decent earpiece volume. I need a new phone and might have to pick this Razr up. I cant see myself trucking around a 707

Posted by: swiftbmx

Anyone know the web date? I've been sitting on my upgrade for a year now.

Posted by: FormulaNY

Any pictures of the gold one? Or can we assume its the same color as the B & G V3i?

Posted by: suthurnlatino

I saw the gold one in a slide, it seemed like a brighter yellow and of course the V3xx is a little different from the V3i. There will be noticeable differences between both phones. I am not sure if the internal keyboard is gold and the display outline is gold on the V3xx. The V3xx orange and black currently out have standard grey keyboards. Oh yeah and you won't hear DOLCE & GABBANNA on the bootup .

Posted by: anubis9278

phones are in store right now...can't sell until 1/26 though. eye candy below...

Posted by: anubis9278

this phone is impressive. it also plays ringtones while connected to a bluetooth hf. thats two for two for moto. sound quality is on par with the v3's. i might actually buy this one.

Posted by: FormulaNY

You're da man Anubis. I though about getting the gold one but I like this gray one. Looks just like my V3i, which is my favorite phone ever. I'm picking this up tomorrow.

Does JAVA work on this? Like Opera Mini and the Gmail app?

Will it be available on website 1.26.2006

Posted by: Maverick05

Thanks for the response anubis!
so, the million dollar question... are we going to be able to use the same hacks we used on the v3 on this phone ('m guess no since it's linux?) cause i want to change the outside picture and disable amrhr and all that good stuff.

Posted by: augmach5

Newbie question regarding this phone, will it check comcast email thru media-net ? I know yahoo/hotmail work ok but have heard in the past that comcast does not ? Would like to pick up this phone tomorrow !

Posted by: onephone

Hi everyone..first, .thanks for all the great info here! Sorry if this is a dumb question, but on phonescoop.com it's listed as having HSDPA 1.8. However, on the Motorola site this phone is listed as having HSDPA 3.6. I realize there are real world limitations, but I was just wondering which one it is for Cingular. Thanks!

Posted by: SJ3Nole98

We received the phones today at my store. Only the gray, not Gold.

Posted by: augmach5

Is the phone AT&T branded ? Assuming so...

Posted by: KyT-MobileGuy

Look at the pics....Cingular branded on the battery cover....

Just use one at Walmart. Sounds and works great, volume is louder than the originals and the one year contract price was about $83.00, two yrear price was about $33.00.

They're cheaper by a few dollars than the V3r's. It seems to be a great phone.

To bad I'm not eligible for an upgrade until August.

Are you saying walmart has this phone?

Posted by: augmach5

I think he is saying just go buy an old razr for a few bucks instead of the v3xx. Walmart does not have this phone.

Posted by: ColtFan

Yes sir, the display was already out and she took a brand new one out of the box and put a sim card in it and told me to play with it as long as I wanted to.

Didn't buy one because the in contract price was just to high she even called cingular to see when if I was eligible.

I will get one when I'm eligible in august. I really liked it. I had gone to buy one of the V3r's but she suggested the v3 IZAR because it was cheaper and looked better.

Sorry Sir, your wrong. They have them in the Walmart in my little town.

Posted by: b0stonirishguy

I found a store that has them here, but they told me the no commit/full price was $400. Maybe they're wrong?

what town and state?

Leesville in west Cental Louisiana. It's the only store in town.

Posted by: nonbeliever

Just picked up this phone at lunch today. It is awesome! I was always a big fan of the original RAZR. The phone just felt RIGHT to me. This newer version though is stunning. If you liked the first gen RAZR, then the V3xx will certainly bring a smile to your face.

Posted by: Tjash2010

Common guys...POST PICTURES!!!

I really want to see what the gold V3xx looks like, I am thinking about one of these since I find myself rarely needing my Blackjack.

Whats the no commitment again?

Posted by: Cltx11

Can you convert DVD's and what not to Mpg4 and save to the memory card to view such as the A707?

Posted by: iamthedudeman

I will be picking up this phone tomorrow. Our office had the engineering model in our offices a couple of weeks ago to test. I really like this phone.

To anyone who have the phone, does it have a foward facing camera. Our engineering model did but it was not functional, no menu or anything to use it, but it was physically there. Did they remove the camera completly? Does it still say HI-SPEED on the bottom of the front glass on the outside of the phone? Does it still have a glossy veneer to the faceplate? This I did not like, and that would be a welcomed removal of the production model.

For those still waiting to get this phone and are unsure of weather to get this phone. Don't worry. This phone is very, very, good. If you like the old RAZR you will love this phone. It may look like the old V3, but it's is completly new entirely. It virtually shares no parts with the old V3. Trust me. I got a good run down by a Moto rep. The only difference between the V3xx and the Maxx is the camera, the internals are the same. They both sport a NVIDIA GoForce 4800 GPU. I am going on what he told me, but most Moto reps I know are full of it, so who knows. Either way, you will like this phone. guaranteed.

Posted by: ivwshane

My store got 20 v3xx's in and they officially launch tomorrow.

It looks pretty decent especially considering that it's $130-50mir with a two year. One thing I like about it is that its much snappier than the v3. The menu system and names have changed as well and seemed to be labeled better (using more natual names and actions). Overall though, I'd still prefer the sync.

Posted by: Rwe2

Got Mine at about 3 today ... Enjoy!

No Foward Faceing Camera, so no video calling.. HI-SPEED was removed, the front faceplate is still glossy.

The 3g is very fast, works well for a modem connection and taking phone calls while the internet is being used does not break or even slow the connection. This phone is great!

did google maps ask for permission to connect every 5 seconds? I am assuming if opera mini asked everytime then google maps did as well. Thanks

Posted by: FormulaNY

Got the gray one. $279 no contract. We're all entitled to our own opinions, so I have to say that after trying the SYNC and the CU500 and liking their features, they could not compare with the build quality of my old V3i.

This V3xx puts the RAZR right on par feature wise with the SYNC and CU500, but it keeps the same build quality of the V3i.

This is a great phone, great screen. Cingular video can be played full screen in landscape mode. No more iTunes!! (YES!). Internet is pretty fast as well.

Posted by: grdella

online now...and it says 229.99 no contract!!!
But online it only says UMTS...does not say HSDPA...can anyone confirm that it is HSDPA????

NEVERMIND...it says HSDPA under specs

Posted by: Cltx11

So what is the screen specs on this thing?

Posted by: Tjash2010

Does anyone have pictures of the gold version? I dont see gold on their site, and I searched google and just got all rebate forums, no pictures.

Thanks for the info. The new Moto UI is called JUIX. The Maxx has this also, as does the ROKR E2. It is Linux and Java based. Closest to a smartphone that you can get, it is like a semi-smartphone.

Everything about the phone is new, new UI, processor, camera, screen, it really is a whole new phone apart from the V3, and it encarnations, such as the V3i and the like. It just looks like them, everything else is new.

My best comparison would be comparing it to a old mustang to a new retro looking mustang, both look alike one another, but the new one is actually completly different. I had the sync. Not impressed. The LG Cu500 beats it in my opinion. The camera in the V3xx while only being 1.3 mega pixel is as good as or better than the Sync's 2.0mp. The V3xx has a GoForce Gpu for bettering rendering of colors and can handle 3D graphics. It greatly enhances the cameras color's and sharpness. The screen in the V3xx is better also. The build quality is much better on the V3xx than either the LG or Samsung. The original V3's build quality was one of the best of any phone, and the V3xx is no exception. Take a few photos on the V3xx and compare them to the Syncs. I did, and was amazed by the comparison. Megapixels does not tell the tale when comparing a phones camera, lens, rendering and processor speed plays a role in a camera's ability to produce good photos.

Cingular now showing the V3xx on their website $229 retail.
I'll be getting mine first thing tomorrow morning!

Tri-band too!
Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA - 850/1900 MHz
Tri-band GSM world phone - 850/1800/1900 MHz

A Triband Razr? What I don't understand about tribands is why they leave out the better band. They should leave in both 850/900, not leave in 1800/1900, since 850/900 provide better (rural) coverage.

Posted by: Maverick05

1. so it says that it has an opera web browser... what are the implications of this? ( i know it's not opera mini) but in terms of getting to more websites or whatever... why is this better than what the older v3s had as a web browser.
2. Their picture shows the mail button, web button, back button instead of cingulars buttons... also, on the screen instead of the menu betton it shows messages and camera which i know someone was complaining about earlier how it couldn't do that.
3. YOu have honestly gotta be smoking somthing to buy the v3r for substantially more!

It's totally possible, they had the V3r a week before some corp stores got theirs, and the KRZR on the same day as Corp.

LOL, if a WallyWorld around here has one in stock I'll have it this afternoon.

I'll update later.

If you use Motorola's browser and also Opera you'll notice that Motorola browser sucks and it is slow as hell. The Motorola browser on the V635 with EDGE is much slower than the Opera Browser on any cheap Samsung or LG with plain old GPRS.

v3xx is not using JUIX and neither is the maxx. They're still using Synergy.

the 900 band only work overseas, not in the us. it will not improve your rural coverage in the states.

Maybe not, but it's a hell of a lot faster than it used to be. V3xx is faster than my K1. EDGE seems much faster than my K1, at least equal to the CU500. Earpiece volume is LOUD, again very close to the CU500.

Yes, it will read 2GB microSD and I believe even the newer 4GB mSDs that will be available later this year.

K

Posted by: bobolito

I have doubts about the 4GB SD and microSD cards. The problem is that 4GB cards can only be read on HCSD readers and most readers are limited to the standard 2GB for now. If it reads 4GB cards, then it will specifically say that it can read HC microSD cards.

Posted by: FormulaNY

Well Howard Forums comes to the rescue! Thanks to grdella, I went back to the store today and got back $50, since I paid $279 for the phone yesterday.

Posted by: Michael95GT

Don't get it at a Corp store. Wallyworld is your friend:

$248.88 "No Contract"

$68.88 "2yr New Contract or Upgrade"

$148.88 "1yr New Contract or Upgrade" (Not positive on this one, it's either $148 or $128)

On the reciept it rang up as an IZAR instead of a RAZR.

Posted by: FormulaNY

Michael95GT, go back man, Cingular price matched their website. I got it for $229 plus tax!

Posted by: goober1965

Does anyone know if the V3xx can handle a 2 GIG memory card or is it limited to 1 GIG?

Thank you for your reply.

Posted by: CLERiC_AJ

I bought it in the store for $299.99 last night and I went back today and he told me they will not price match the website. "It's Cingular policy not to price match" then I went to another store and got the same story. All in the Spring/Woodlands, TX area.

I think I am just going to order it online and then return this one when I get the other.

Posted by: CLERiC_AJ

And I just tried and I cant order just the phone from the website. Or at least I couldnt figure out how. What do I have to do to get this this for $229.99

Posted by: goober1965

On the Cingular price sheet is it is listed at $279.99 for No Commitment.

I would expect the store to honor that price, not charge you $20 more.

Posted by: CLERiC_AJ

He pulled up their price sheet and showed me and what he has at this store is $299.99

Posted by: fireonhigh

i just ordered it for 79.99 on an upgrade but i still had to renew a 2year contract,oh well i was not planning on leaving anytime soon, but the hell if i were ???ohh i forgot to ask ,,will i be able to use my old v3 by switching simcards? i need one for work and phones and paint dont mix to well

Posted by: goober1965

Who cares what the keypad looks like

3G Hi-Speed Data capable, 1.3 MP camera, QVGA display, expandable microSD memory, Oprah web browser, Advanced speech recognition, Stereo BT and BT print feature

Posted by: augmach5

Just got mine for $118 at Wal-mart with 1 year commitment.

Hmm. sorry. JUIX is the new OS used in the new RIZR. I like synergy though. Much better than the old V3. Very zippy with the GoForce GPU. My engineering model home menu had four revolving icons shaped like a diamond and you can choose what four applications you want there. There was also a analog digital clock on the bottom right hand side of the screen. I was under the impression this was JUIX. I guess I better stick to marketing and stay away from software issues.

I guess these Cingular stores dont all think alike. The manager at the store I went to saw that I paid $279 for it yesterday. Then I got $50 back today, plus a new phone since the transaction couldnt occur with the one I bought yesterday.
I didnt care, as long as I got my $50 i could have kept the phone I got yesterday.

Speakerphone is just like the V3i so far. I havent tried the voice command yet, and I dont know about the battery life yet since cingular had to exchange the one I bought yesterday with a new one to credit me $50.

Bluetooth file transfer is great with my computer. Transferring a whole song takes about a minute though. I wonder if it would be faster using a Bluetooth 2.0 dongle?

Posted by: houman

Is this phone triband or quadband ? on Cingular's site it says it is a triband phone:

# Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA - 850/1900 MHz
# Tri-band GSM world phone - 850/1800/1900 MHz

Posted by: jyalexop2003

Just called a Walmart in St. Louis and they got them yesterday.
1 and 2 yr. new/upgradees prices are $68 and $118, respectively.
I'll probabbly go have a look tomorrow.

Posted by: CLERiC_AJ

Just called 4 stores in the North Houston Area - None will match the $229.99 and all have it listed as $299.99 no-contract price.

Now I am confused. Can someone please put up some shots of the menu of this phone. Here is the UI I had on the engineering model. Here are some pics and description. The ROKR E2 has the same UI as the one on the engineering model we used. Here is the article with pics.

"UI Chameleon, interface version – 3.1. This interface will be the basic one for JUIX handsets which do not have the sensory display"

Is this Synergy? I don't think it is. But I am not a software engineer. Can the production model have a different UI from the one I used or described in the article? Does the V3xx production model have a different UI from the engineering model? The Maxx i have used has this same UI. Same as the V3xx we had. Pk2, Synergy, "Chameleon? just what does this phone have?

I would appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me.

the pricing on this phone is strange... as far as i can tell the only disadvantage between this over the v3i is no Itunes and GSM 900 afaik

Just get it from Wal-Mart. Prices at Wal-Mart:

Not really a choice especially since the V3xx adds a higher resolution screen, more free space, 3G (plus EDGE which the V3i lacks), and in a slightly larger form factor but cheaper.

I was going to buy a V3i iTunes to supplement my Maxx but I'll just get a V3xx. So it'll be both Maxxes: V3 and V6.

I called 611 and tried to order the 3xx for $229, but they wouldn't sell it to me unless I picked a updated plan. Should I keep trying or just buy it at a cingualr store or Walmart?

With a new plan, I lose 200 peak mins, 7 pm nights, and unlimited text messaging.

The newer Synergy OS has been designed to look like JUIX, so people won't have to deal with viewing a completely new system. However, the E2 and Rizr Z6 have JUIX while the v3xx and MAXX both have a new version of Synergy which is different from the one seen in the v3x or earlier synergy phones.

They look really similar but when you get deeper in the JUIX based phones have much better organization.

now tell me this not that i am going to complain now that i have already picked one up from walmart; but how does cingular not have this at corperate stores around me, but every walmart on earth seams to already have these. this is just again cingular/at&t dropping the ball just like on all phone releases that never happen on time. what a joke. all three coperate stores i called today said they would not have them until monday (1) the other two said next friday. what a joke. you can always count on a money hungry company like walmart to come through for us.

850 and 900 are better for rural coverage, period. I wasn't specifically stating where. If you don't leave urban areas overseas then you're fine. But if you do, then you need the 900 band, which the original Razr had. I can't wrap my head around why they'd drop it on this particular phone. Otherwise it's nice because it has UMTS 850/1900.

I still think the Maxx looks better though.

LOL, same here. I been to 3 corp stores today in my area, none of them even have displays setup, much less any of them in stock. I've been to 2 Wal-Marts and both have or I should say had at least 5 in stock.

Is the display pretty much the same as the V3i? On paper, they appears to have the same specs with regard to the display resolution. Also, do you know if the UI and menus are the same as on the KRZR? Lastly, can you use mp3's and aac's as ringtones?

Posted by: mulderc

I am assuming then also from all you have gotten their phones from Walmart that they did not get a data cable or EVEN a memory card. That is crap, I would love to know what Cingular does with atleast the memory cards that they rip off from the boxes. this is why i normally never buy branded phones.

Posted by: ihparker12

Anywhere in Boston? All the Cingular corporate stores here tell me that they will not have this phone for a few weeks.

We just bought one, at the store inside the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua

Display is improved to QVGA (240x320) The UI looks the same as KRZR but MUCH faster, no lag at all. Photo capture is instantanious. Yes mp3's and aac's as ringtones. Earpiece, Ringer and Speakerphone volume is LOUD, on par with CU500. Vibrate is stronger than past V3's and K1. Opera web browser is FAST.

I haven't found anything to dislike so far!!

Are these phones packaged with the data cable/memory card if purchased from a corporate store ??

Cingular Launches First 3.6 Mbps HSDPA Handset
Phonescoop | 1/26/07

Cingular today launched Motorola's V3xx, a 3G version of the popular RAZR. The V3xx is not easily distinguishable from other RAZRs, however it is notable in its own right. It is the first 3G phone for Cingular capable of 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. Previous handsets, including smartphones such as the BlackJack or 8525 have been capped at 1.8 Mbps. Although Cingular has been selling 3.6 Mbps capable data cards for some time, the network is still running at 1.8 Mbps, so users will not be able to take full advantage of the V3xx's enhanced speeds yet. A Cingular spokesman tells us the company will increase the network's data speed once more devices capable of 3.6 Mbps are available. The V3xx is tri-band GSM/EDGE with 850/1900 HSDPA, and features Bluetooth, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and MicroSD card slot.

They also corrected their V3xx profile page.

Here you have it folks, the Motorola V3xx on Cingular officially out today — but you don't care right? That's never stopped us from Unboxing so let's get to it! First off the color; it's the grey version which looks just like a Verizon RAZR combined with a V3i. Second the GSM/UMTS radio; it doesn't work that well. The 3G reception is fair, regular GSM reception is just any other RAZR but the hand-off isn't that smooth. A couple times my data connection disappeared, no EDGE, no 3G. We all knew this but thanks for taking out the front-facing camera AT&T Wireless, Cingular, at&t. Click on for the ritual Unboxing!

i read this on theboygeniusreport.......no edge no3g???lolwhats up with that?http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007...-motorola-v3xx/

Thanks brother for clearing that up. I thought they looked alike though. So they look alike but the updated synergy is really JUIX 1/2. The website I posted stated it was JUIX but a stripped down version. Thanks for clearing that up.

Let me know if FTS / Field Engineering Mode hacks work on this phone, especially the good old AMR codec change and volume gain settings.

Motorola was a little surprised at seeing FTS on my V505 at CES in Las Vegas, and getting about -36 dBm in the convention center. Samsung was also a little surprised about it on my ZX-20. Cingular/AT&T folks didn't even know that there was an AMR-half rate codec

If you buy at wal mart do you still get the 30 day return policy that you get at corp stores?

Posted by: jettaguy87

Does anyone else's seem to have a loose hinge on the left side? Mine has quite a bit of play when closed although none when opened. I hope this is just mine so I can swap it out with another because my v3i didn't have very much play and the KRZR has little to no side-to-side movement when closed. Other than this, the phone is a treat and a definite suprise.

Love the 3G phone start-up and ending graphics, way cool !

Ok so I am new to accessing internet functions on a cell phone, but even with this 3G technology to me its painfully slow, especially when on an edge connection. What am I missing here ?

How does anyone really do more than check email with a cell and still have a life ?

A cell isn't meant for cruising the net like a home PC. I do use it mostly for email, checking movie times, etc. Plus general time wasteing. I haven't found EDGE or 3G to be "painfully slow" at all.

I guess compared to a home DSL connection it is, but then you can't put your home PC in your pocket.

Yep mine as well, Cingular rep took out 2 more from the back and they were all a little loose when closed, but no movement at all when opened.

V3xx & K1:

Posted by: liknsmak

So I'm guessing that the resolution of the outer screen on the v3xx is the same pixelated display as the K1, right?

The outer screen on the V3XX is not that bright or visible in sunlight, better than monochrome however..

I live in 3g coverage and i have tethered both the lg cu500 and the motorola v3xx to my pc via bluetooth, ran many speed tests, and they are fairly similar as far as download and upload speeds are concerned. The v3xx keeps giving me a 'file format unknown' when i send it an mp3 - both by bt and dl from zedge.net. Both are filled with all that cingular crap in the menus. I think i am going to stick with the LG (even though it is crap too), lesser of two evils i guess. When will they give us a decent 3g phone?

Thanks for the response. I will not miss the silly HI-Speed logo on the bottom of the outside display at the bottom. It is a shame that the camera is removed completly. I guess AT@T will want us to buy a newer version of the phone with the camera. Sucks.

I know about the connection. If the production is anything like the engineering model we had, i will be quite happy when my phone arrives tues. And I agree, this phone is great.

What is wrong these phones? Espicially the V3xx. I think Cingular goes overboard with the crap too, but what did you expect with the phone being a cingular branded phone. The V3xx is a great phone. How many other aluminum bodied slim phones with HSDPA, micro SD slot, a decent 1.3 megapixel camera with the GoForce GPU added as far as 1.3 mp camera's are concerned, a QVGA display, advanced voice dial functions, volume that is second to none, with the great RF of the original V3 all wrapped into one available in the USA right now. Hmm, let me think, about that one for a minute.

There is not much difference as far as features goes compared to the RAZR MAXX, the maxx has a better camera, but the body is not aluminum. I have used both these phones and the V3xx is just as nice in my opinion. I like the aluminum body and the feel of the V3xx over the MAXX. Just my opinion. But it just feels more familar to me.

So if this phone does not impress you, I don't know what else on Cingulars network would right now apart from a smartphone with HSDPA.

Because that KRZR has a custom external image; it's not a branded phone. My V3i used to have at&t branding on it and people thought I had at&t...but it was just really good Photoshop skills.

I am really looking forward to hearing about how the customisations go with the V3xx. This is the first time that we've been modifying a Motorola with the hybrid chip, and I'll be watching for hints of how to treat the "K3" when it arrives in the USDM.

I really wanted the Vx3xx but after playing with it at Walmart last night
I'm not so sure.
It feels much cheaper tham my original and I think it is all plastic as
opposed to the original all-metal V3. This thing just feels like it will crack if you drop it on a hard surface.
I also noticed the battery is the BR-50 (the same 710Mah battery that is
in my V3). Since 3G consumes much more battery power, I think battery life will be a real big issue?
Now I know why it is only $69.99 for a 2yr. new or upgrade contract price.
The Samsung SYNC feels much more solid.

It's not plastic. It is aircraft grade Aluminum, just the like the original V3's.
Now, the new Maxx on the other hand is plastic.

LOL yeah, I'm gonna do the same with the V3xx as soon as I find out what program to use. Nothing I have right now will recognise it.

I've been using my K1 charger, and it seems to be working fine. Do you all think I should start using the V3xx charger?

I just picked up two of these phones from Cingular on Friday... The phones are great so far, but I did notice a couple of issues.

First, when I enabled the SIM PIN, the phone hangs after it accepts my SIM PIN requiring a power cycle. I had to remove the SIM card and place it in my old T-Mobile (unlocked) phone to disable the SIM PIN. This was the only way I could get it to work again in my V3xx. Has anyone else had this problem? It could be a bug with my particular phone, or a bug in the firmware release.

Second, Cingular MMS Adaptation is deleting video messages that are sent to me. I'm not sure if they have not configured their system for the V3xx yet, or if my phone is not configured properly. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am curious to see if anyone else has these problems, or if my phone is misconfigured. Thanks in advance for any info.

Okay i just bought this phone yesterday and charged it up overnight and played with it for the past 2 hours...here are my findings...
1. Gmail app does work...if you try to download it through the installed opera browser it gives you an error...BUT...if you first download opera mini and then go to gmail.com/app from opera mini it says that it could not determine your phone and asks if you would like to install the generic one...answer yes and then say okay to closing the opera mini browser...next it will prompt you for permission to open the install browser...say yes and keep saying yes to everything until it installs...you are good to go

2. why why why why why does cingular insist on asking permission everytime a java app wants to access internet. seriously this phone would have been absolutely incredible if the java permission just asked once in the beginning

3. that being said, gmail app, opera mini, google maps all work but of course ask for permission all the time...google maps is so great but i think i will wear out the yes button if i use it too much...ha

5. The screen is awesome and the new menu design is great too...they clean it up nicely.

6. maybe some digital video experts will chime in on this as well...megapixels is not everything in a camera...there are other things that determine image quality as well, and this camera is very good...it is not a typical 1.3 camera, it takes great pictures for a phone and the image quality when viewing them on the screen is great...don't just assume a 3 megapixel camera is better than a 2, that is like saying a 3.0 ghz computer is better than a 2.4 ghz one, one cannot make that assumption without looking at all the other components working alongside that processor

7. when i installed gmail, opera mini, and google maps they installed to my microSD card...is there anyway to move them to the phone memory without uninstalling and reinstalling? Also how do you install java apps to phone memory as default rather than the memory card(without removing the card before downloading) THANKS

That being said I am very impressed with this phone so far and would have given it a 10 if not for the java issue...still have to play with the music stuff and cingular video but so far it is really fast and as long as i have gmail app working it is all good.

If you check over in the Moto Modding forum, I've posted about the beginning modding of the Cingular V3xx.

In there I posed about deleting the j2me_domain_registry.sm file from the phone, and it will get you back to the "ask once per app" question for net access. It's not perfect, but its a start.

I have read through all the threads I could find on the IZAR but haven't found much comment on 2G/3G reception and voice quality. I will be using this as my only phone and would appreciate any comment on these items. Also, I live in an area where AMR Half Rate is the norm, and I wondered how this phone does with this codec.

Many thanks, and if I missed any existing thread/postings on IZAR RF, a pointer in that direction would be appreciated.

coverage is excellent, better than my old v3 and better than my 8525. Consistently clear, clean sounding calls and holds reception (2g) in all the places where my old phone did, even in fringe areas... 3g, while still with spotty coverage, seems to do just as well as my other 3g phones.

Posted by: mazman5

So far I am very happy with the 3G voice quality on the V3xx (though its only been a few days). It seems to be higher quality than my V330 was with T-Mobile (no background hiss). I have not been in an area without 3G since I got the phone, and I cannot tell if it is using AMR half rate since I can't get Engineering mode to work yet on this handset. You can always return the phone to the store if you are unhappy with it, although their return policies may vary.

How is the batter y life compared to original V3.
This would be based on the phone being on 24/7,
15-20 minutes of calls/day, maybe 20 mins/day MP3s,
a little surfing of sports scores.
My V3 gos 5 days.

It could be a bug with my particular phone, or a bug in the firmware release.

Had the same problem.

Call Quality is better than my Quad band V505 and is pretty close as far as RF range/reception although I still have some rural areas left to visit for comparison purposes. Very impressed so far !

Posted by: Eric5273

Just curious, but since HSDPA allows simultaneous voice & data, does this phone allow you to use both at the same time?

For example, can you put someone on speaker phone and use your web browser to check movie times? Or can you chat on AIM while on a phone call?

Posted by: Maverick05

yes and no... it does allow simultaneous voice and data, so you can get on media net while talking to someone ont he phone, but the phone itself does not seem to support full multitasking, so what applications you can open at the same time varies

is anyone's keypad not secured right? At the top when i press the up arrow or the soft keys it sounds like the keypad is pulling away from tape when i let my finger off...i think i got a bad one...is everyone elses solid?

Posted by: chasm

so what's the deal with this only being a tri-band phone. Is the quality of reception going to suffer because of this ? Is this a necessary evil as a result of adding the HSPDA band ?

The band that is missing is the GSM 900 band. It is a European band.
Unless you plan on travelling to Europe frequently it wont have ANY effect on reception in the Americas.

Posted by: chasm

Thanks, I don't plan on travelling to Europe frequently, but I have used quad band phones when I do travel. V3, V3i

do you have to use a motorola data cable or can you just use any usb to mini usb cable as long as it is high speed?

Posted by: mazman5

I used a standard mini USB 2.0 cable and it worked fine for Motorola Phone Tools to put my phonebook on the V3xx.

My keypad is tight, i'd say it is your phone.

Posted by: Maverick05

a lot of people were complaining that their left hing is/was loose, my phone's hinges are very tight and solid, so maybe all those people got a bad batch

In terms of RF, sound quality, call quality, etc.. Which is better Samsung A707 or the new V3xx?

Posted by: CLERiC_AJ

I prefer the V3xx, I have talked on both the A707 and V3xx. One thing I have noticed is that the V3xx will not hesitate to switch to GSM/EDGE from 3G. In areas where my A707 stays on 3G with 1/0 bars the V3xx will switch to GSM/EDGE when 3G is at 1-2 bars sometimes. Sometimes I wish it would stay 3G other times I am glad it switched.

I think it is plenty loud and clear personally.

SKINS---Does anyone have any information on skins for the V3xx? I know it just came out.

I've got a major issue. (but first) So I got the phone this morning. Its really cool, I love the UI enhancements, the new phonebook, the whole OS is really fast. The cingular branding is a little out of control, but nothing a little seem editing can't fix.

Anyways. I put in my sim from my old phone when I got the new one, and everything worked great. Although, it did seem like the internet would stop working, and then I would reboot, and then it would work again....anyways, I decide to call cingular and have them activate my new sim card. So I do that. CSR makes sure that voice works, and then I notice, after getting of the phone that data doesn't work. I'm not even getting a 3G, Edge, or GPRS data icon. They have been unable to fix it. I put the sim in another phone and everything is fine. So they are sending me a new sim. I hope that fixes it.

tell me about it! getting a new phone these day is like getting a new computer... i actually used my old razr for a while when it was severely broken just so i wouldn't have to do allt eh seem edits, and reconfigurations again! Granted, this phone is much faster and it shouldn't take as long to do a lot of the stuff.

what are the edits you do and how do you they help the phone work better?? i wish i could just take my phone to a shop to have them done cause i know i would kill it

as far as keypad problems, I really thought moto would have solved these problems long ago. I had the guy at walmart pull out three of them (yeah, he thought I was crazy) three out of four had a problem with the down arrow key not giving that satisfying click feel. This is AFTER I had tried to just deal with one that had the problem. The faulty button would cause double clicks, etc. Mine is a little loose when closed, but not a big deal. Out of 5 razrs i've had only one was solid and tight when closed.

Does anybody else have people complaining about feedback when you're using the speakerphone? If not then I'm going to exchange mine. Motorola usually has the best speakerphones. Everything else about the phone is fan-freakin-tastic!

no feedback in mine

Posted by: blumoto

I must have got a lucky one so far none of the mentioned problems with the keypad and no feedback on the speaker and nice and tight flip so far, plus the hand offs from umts to gsm are flawless.

ditto

Posted by: mazman5

No feedback on mine. I have used bluetooth and speakerphone without issues. No keypad issues either.

I did some more research on the SIM PIN issue, and it seems that the V3xx will not work with a Cingular 3G SIM card that has the PIN enabled. However, I used a GoPhone SIM card (64k) and it works fine in my V3xx with the SIM PIN enabled. I cannot try my other sim cards since this phone is still locked to Cingular. Looking back at this thread only one other person mentioned having problems with the SIM PIN enabled. Has nobody else tried this? I would not recommend trying it unless you have an unlocked phone available to disable the SIM PIN on your sim card.

Posted by: Maverick05

my v3xx is seemlessly switching between 3g to 2g and back to 3g during phone conversations! This is awesome.. my 8525 didn't normally do this, it did a few times but would drop most of the time.

Posted by: blumoto

I have the white with the orange band(64k) and blue back with the little 3g before the sim numbers and have the sim pin enabled on the v3xx and it works I heve not tried the other 3 g with the blue wave and the 3g flame on it

Posted by: bmega

Is anyone else having this problem?? In Vibe then Ring mode, when I receive a text message the backlight for the outer screen won't turn on. It will vibrate and the audio will sound but the backlight stays off. Anyone? Wondering if I need a THIRD V3xx. The 2 that I have tried have only lit up properly once or twice out of 20 or so texts that I have tried.

Posted by: kaibob

This is a bit off-topic, and I apologize for that, but I'm going to Walmart tomorrow to purchase two of the V3xx's and wanted to make sure that this is going to work.

Right now we have an 850 minute family plan that is no longer available (it's now 700 minutes). Are we going to be able to keep this plan or is Walmart going to try to force us to select a new plan?

Thanks.

Since moto is changing their phone OS/UI software (finally), I'm wondering if the fully customizable motorola "menu-X-Y" style shortcuts are still available?

On my v551 (and most other recent Moto's I'm aware of) you can assign "shortcuts" to almost any function of the phone including other menus and specific java applets by scrolling to a particular item in any of the phone's menus and holding down the "menu" button to assign a 1 or 2-digit menu shortcut code.

For example, I have shortcuts assiged in this manner for:

text messaging: menu-1-8
browser menu: menu-4
browser go to url: menu-4-4
call log: menu-1-5
calculator: menu-1-1
alarm clock: menu-1-2
calendar: menu-1-3

Most importantly, these shortcuts work EVERYWHERE except inside of a running java applet (which is quickly overcome by hitting "end" once to suspend the app, and the entering your desired "menu-X-Y" shortcut code.)

This makes multi-tasking a truly useful activity on these phones and I'm concerned that Motorola's new UI/OS software will neglect to retain this awesome feature.

Anyone care to test this out on the new motos?

Speaking of vibrate then ring...

Does this phone have a "Vibration AND ring" setting that so many moto's seem to lack?

I am wondering the same thing. I just picked mine up this morning so I have not had any time to read the manual. I have tried holding down the main menu key to assign them but it seems it does not work the same way since it is now a soft key and not a designated key.

Well, on my v3xx, for starters i'd like to change the outside lcd image adn enable the ask only once internet connection setting for java... haven't been able to do anythign on it casue i don't have a software that will recognize it and i don't know the seem edits.

On my v3/v3i i used to do everything from disabiling amr-hr, to editing the outside image, to enabling emergency only, to adding network selection, etc.. like 30+ seem edits. Gain tables, etc... Fortunately, i ahven't had to do any of these on my v3xx as i like verything on it.. OH, though i do with the outside buttons wouldn't automatically lock. that's stupid, i have never changed profiles accidentally. And for the record, it sucks that the outside screen is sooooo washed out, my v3 and v3i had a better external screen.

Just tell them that you want to upgrade your phones and keep your same plan, you shouldn't have any problems. Wal-Mart isn't pushy like the Corp stores; I don't think they get commissions, so they could care less.

Uh, anyone tried getting a text and the external backlight does not come on?
