Sorry if this is a total noob question and I did search for an answer. I was wondering if its possible to use the navigational GPS service that the new V3m's have on my Moto V3i? I do understand that one is CDMA and the other GSM but I had no idea or not if the V3i is compatable with any type of Navi GPS service. Any and all help is appreciated.

is their an exploit so that people can use the vz navigator or the broadband for free?

No, VZW Navigator is only on Verizon...There is no exploit.

VZNavigator? what's that ive never even heard of this, i have internet cracked and i have the web browser, is there a way to use the gps to locate urself and find somewhere, say, if u get lost?

Unless you have VZW, idk.

yeah, i do, v3m verizon, there's a way to use the GPS? thought it was only for 911 calls

Posted by: baileyhood

oh if you have the verizon v3m then yes you can actually use the gps for turn by turn directions...go to get going under get it now and download the free trial of vzw navigator....It's realllly nice..Mapquest is also coming out with an app that will allow you to use the gps on your phone too for actual gps navigation just like in your car. Check it out.

I have VZ Navigator and it works great. It has the option of getting your GPS coordinates, but only when it is able to connect and get a cell phone signal. If Vz Navigator can not connect, it errors out and will not let you get to this menu option.

I do a lot of hiking and camping and it would be very useful to be able to get the GPS coordinates when I am out of cell phone range.

Does anyone know of a way to get the GPS coordinates out of the phone without using VZ Navigator?

the "gps" in the v3m isnt really "gps"... its basically a lot of geometry and a basic method known as triangulation to calculate where you are based on signal strength to different towers, at least this is what the gps is on my e815, and since it is very similar to the v3m hardware-wise, i'm almost positive its probably the same thing, i doubt motorola integrated a true gps receiver into the v3m as that would take up a lot more space... so without signal, your location cant be calculated

I originally thought the same - it was triangulation of cell towers. A couple of things changed my mind:

1) The navigation S/W works when I do not have a cell phone signal, as long as: 1) I start up VZ Navigator when I have a signal, and download directions; 2) I stay on course so that I do not have to download new directions after I am out of range.

2) If I start up VZ navigator when I have a signal, then later lose the signal, it will still report my GPS position.

I guess it is possible that the signal could be too weak for voise/data transimission, but still strong enough for the phone to do the triangulation. But I do have trouble believing that this is the case in the remote mountains of Idaho.

Anyone else have any insight on how GPS works in the Razr V3c(m)?

hmm thats interesting, like i said though i dont own a v3m so i really wasnt exactly sure about how it worked, maybe I'll look on verizon's website to see if theres anything there

kind of sounds like the theory of triangulation or some other similar method might somehow be correct:
Quote:
Download, subscription and airtime required for use; only in National Enhanced Services Coverage Area; accuracy and completeness of info is not guaranteed; info about location of device will be used to deliver service.
either that verizon just wants another excuse to make money by charging users for their minutes... but why would verizon do that? its not like they do that anywhere else....
