A friend of mine got an aircard 860 and he got 403 uP and 990 down. Cingular's software said 44% signal, but showed 'good' three bars. So far Cingular's HSDPA is faster than Sprints CDMA - I have both and have run side by side test so far I'm impressed.

^ me 2.. my friend has the A900 Blade by sprint and Um i was SHOCKED about how fast he brought up Myspace.com. i thought it was faster than my cu500 maybe it is. i wat to run a speed test on his phone.

Can you (or anyone for that matter) walk me through this process step for step, or give a page I can look at for how to do this? Thanks a bunch,

Kyle

Just tested again using SPEAKEASY and got this:
1345kbps DOWN and 786kbps UP

Then did it again and got 796 and 566 which I am used to. Not very stable but then neither am I! LOL

BTW - if you need help tethering on a Mac (PPC or Intel) see below...

My friend and I each have one of these CU500s and we each have an Intel Mac. Last week we got this figured out and even did an iChat with each other while both of us were tethered over Bluetooth. We got pretty good throughput too - close to DSL speeds both up and down.

BTW - the entire below procedure is at your own risk. It worked for me and my friend but we are both mobile and Mac geeks...

Also, bluetooth mice and keyboards interfere with this phone when tethered and even when pairing on the Mac. My friend actually returned a bt MightyMouse the next day after buying it when he found this out. You have been warned .

1) Press 277634#*# to get into the ENGINEERING (PHONE TEST) MODE.
2) In this menu, press 4 for PORT SETTING
3) In this menu, press 2 for DATA SETTING
4) In this menu, press 2 to set bluetooth as your data (BT SET for data)
5) Go back into ENGINEERING MODE in step 1.
6) Press 5 for MODEM SETTING
7) In this menu, press 6 for GRPS ATTACH
8) In the pop up, choose number 1 for POWER ON. This was the only setting I got to work properly. Press the RED/END-CALL button to return to the main screen.
9) Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and all those settings are the way you want them.
10) In the settings menu of the phone, choose number 7 for CONNECTION.
11) In this menu, press 3 to set dial up networking to Bluetooth.
12) Now, pair your phone and if you did it right you will see both the address book function and the ISP high-speed data function. If not, repeat 1-12 above. You can only get a successful tether if you see both the addressbook and the ISP functions.
13) When you are in the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and it comes to the configuration screen for the ISP, use the below case-sensitive settings:
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Phone number: *99#111*
Modem Script: SPRINT PCS VISION (this is very important - we tried others and this one gave the fastest data throughput)

That was it. We changed nothing else on our machines although others on the net said you had to. We didn't.

I hope this helps as it still works for us - I just re-tested it when writing this post.
