FAQ2: Nokia 6265i hacking / de-TELUS-rized mod summary

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Folks,

I have promised to keep everyone updated if another de-TELUS-rized mod comes into reality. Since the Nokia 6265i hacking thread has been "jacked" and "closed", so I will PM the moderators to re-open it and hopefully this little but symbolic hack can be added to the rightful place. I would like to thank many fellow enthusiasts, experts and insiders to make the 6265i "do more" and "friendly".

But, first, let us to refresh our memory on the 6265i hacking thread and MORE IMPORTANTLY, to remind everyone, PLEASE BACK UP the files you are going to change / delete in MobiMB and PRI Settings in Diego BEFORE any mod!. So far, we CAN:

- Remove the locked TELUS-rized Main Menu icons when changing the themes...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...331#post7385331 (*Note: the default Nokia Camera and Shop icons may still stay regardless of some themes have customized ones. It is due to the fact that most themes are written for other Nokia GSM models running on Series 40 3rd Edition with 240 x 320 resolution. In order to get around, it has to change those CDMA-specific icons with Nokia Theme Studio.)

- Remove the DRM / copyright file types restriction when assigning ringtones...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=799324 PRI ID: 1282, Generic features > Menu & User Settings > Ringtone Settings > Set as ringtone Menu Options

- Change the way how the Java apps are stored / can be accessed...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=799324 PRI ID: 1630-1632, 1656, 1118, Generic features > Middleware > Java(J2ME) > UI Settings > Miscellaneous UI Settings

- Add the Camera Sounds toggle menu...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...564#post7385564
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=799324 PRI ID: 946, Product/Software Stream features > Camera/Pictures Menu & User Settings > Camera Sounds Menu (*Note: Please respect others' privacy and self-regulate! I do not like the annoying sound but I DO know when / where is NOT the right moment / place to take picture.)

- Trick FM Radio with speakerphone without original Nokia headsets...

Wow, great post HC - no "I"! Everything all in one convenient place! I'm sure this will save many people hours of reading/skimming.

Posted by: whothis

Thanks HC really appreciate all the knowledge you have passed around. The post you made really makes it easier to navigate and straight to the point.

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

And, now, I add one more most-request item...

- De-TELUS-rized the "SHOP" right soft-key in the top idle / standby screen...

But, PLEASE BACK UP the PRI Settings BEFORE any mod! Click on "Save to File" in Diego. If you have no clue of what I am talking about, then please do study about the advanced topic first. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=799324

1. In the Diego, check if the Navigation scroll keys have been set to Names (i.e. Contacts / Phonebook) first. PRI ID: 1375-1378, Generic features > Menu & User Settings > Operator Menu > Right Soft Key Settings > Scroll-Key settings. If so, change it to any other than Names.

2. In the 6265i, check if the Navigation scroll keys have been set by you to Names before. Menu > 8 Settings > 7 Phone > 3 Navigation key. If so, change it to any other than Names.

3. In Diego, CLEAR the Operator Menu Right Soft Key Name/Image Filename entry, SHOP (i.e. simply delete "SHOP" and leaves it as blank)
PRI ID: 1199, Generic features > Menu & User Settings > Operator Menu > Right Soft Key Settings > Operator Menu Right Soft Key Name/Image Filename

4. Upon reboot, you will see the SHOP right soft-key becomes either "Names" or "Custom..."! Click on it and verify if it goes to the phonebook.

Please Note: Unfortunately, the current version PRI, 533243r001, in the TELUS' 6265i does not come with an item to allow other customization of the right soft-key (like the left soft-key). But at least, we have achieved our goal by bringing the TELUS-rized "hard-key" back to the a REAL "soft-key", yet retain the SHOP menu in the Main Menu... So we can still SHOP at TELUS! The Future is even more friendly!

baggio4eva / whothis,

You are welcome! I am also helping myself because many of us are frustrated by the amount of relevant / irrelevant information scattering around. In the meantime, I have asked moderators to STICK this thread in here. Hopefully, this thread will not be jacked like last one.

Posted by: Jason

No one "jacked" your last thread Howard. The proper term is "de-railed".

If it were "jacked" it would look like this:

Posted by: vestigo74

Thanks Howard, you kickass yet again!

lol Jason. nice...

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Jason,

LOL Which thread do you think I am referring? That one is NOT even my thread but started by TM-GUY ( http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=931041 )! If it has a re-direct link to the original hacking thread that has moved somewhere , I would say it as "de-railed" / "side-tracked" like what may happen here.

Posted by: hani831

Is there a way to get i to display "Names" instead of "Custom" ?

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Folks,

There are some fellow members asking if these mods are reversible and/or void the warranty...

- They are totally reversible... provided that you have BACK UP the settings / files that have been modified / changed / removed.

- Warranty will be VOIDED, technically, for any mod as such... However, if you can bring every settings / conditions back to the original factory state like out of the box, I personally do not believe there will be a problem. Of course, if you admit to have so much fun around with these mods, then accept the risk and consequences.

hani831,

If you have followed my steps, it will show "Custom..." instead. REBOOT one more time and it will show "Names".

Unbelievable. You, sir, are a hero.

Now, back to twiddling my thumbs while I wait for my CA-53 cable to arrive from eBay....

Yeah me too...

Posted by: AloneInACrowd

Ah Howard you came through for me again, now I've got no more shop key! I really appriciate all the work your doing and sharing your findings

Posted by: thebigreddog16

Finally was able to get MP3's as ringtones. Just one quick question. Is there any program to edit the length of the MP3 so just a certain part would become the ringtone? I don't need the whole mp3 to play when my phone rings, sometimes I just want the beginning of the song or just the chorus. I heard of MP3 Trimmer but thats for the Mac. Any ideas?
Thanks

Posted by: AloneInACrowd

For me the easiest program to use is Audacity, open source so it's pretty sweet and easy to use.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Just need to download the LAME MP3 encoder to be able to re-encode them as MP3's.

Posted by: thebigreddog

aloneinacrowd
Downloaded Audacity and it's quite easy to use. thanks for the help.

Is it normal for the phone to into a stuck "Local mode" every time you write to the phone from Diego? I know you can reset it by removing the battery but my battery compartment door is almost (but not quite) impossible to open and every time I do so I think I'm going to tear the phone apart. Love the phone otherwise...

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

There're two likely causes:

1) You version of Diego comes with an older connectivitiy drivers.

2) You've installed PC Suite as well, the driver version is different from the Diego.

What I'd try is to uninstall the PC Suite FIRST, then uninstall the Diego. After that, just install PC Suite.

You do know there's a little latch at the bottom to release the battery compartment door right?

Yes I know about the latch. I had the dealer open it the first time - took 2 of the employees 10 minutes to do it...

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Derodeo,

Forget about pulling the battery. Like Mod 25 has suggested, I can confirm you that the "stuck in the Local Mode" problem is about the connectivity driver version - especially if you have both PC Suite and other Nokia program installed. Remove all the program and then reinstall just Diego first to try.

I want to thank all of you that have helped me do my first ever hack you guys are good, special thanks to HC for answering all the suilly questions ..I have so far enabled the ring tone and shut off the camera sound is there any other hacks availabble? if there is a list of things that can be hacked already listed please give me the link I searched and did not find anything on the list of things that can be hacked on the 6265i...Thanks in advance

Thanks. I did try removing PC Suite and all Nokia connectivity drivers and reinstalling Diego. "Local mode" problem remains. No big deal I guess - though removing that battery compartment cover remains very difficult indeed. When I experiment with Diego from now on I will do so with the cover left off...

I am looking into a few things like the EVRC...and the enhanced voice message notification have you played around with any of them and does it enhance the phone at all?
So I enabled the enhanced voice message notification and it adds an option for last voice msg details

Derodeo,

Then I think your Diego version must be older one.

whothis,

1. The EVRC is forced by the network anyway, so anything option will have little effect.

2. I have not played with the enhanced VM notification before but nevertheless it is nice to display on the screen directly than just listening to the VM system to dictate the information. Thanks for the good find

How did you enable this on the 6265i?

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

HighTech,

I think you have to read through the pages! We are talking about the PRI items and can only be altered by Diego.

Posted by: HighTech

HC - NO "i",

My mistake. I will have to look into that. Thanks

Posted by: whothis

Okay so the enhanced voicemail notification so far has not been able to give me and detailed info on any of my voice mails yet ...I will keep you posted if anything happens.....HC any word on the handset volume yet?

Please forgive me but to add my own screen saver and wall paper do I need to change something in Diego or is there another way to do that?

Posted by: whothis

Okay another hack question.........anyone know what the screensaver feature and Download screensaver menu option do?

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

whothis,

1. What "details" do you want besides the time/date stamp (scroll down with one click) of the last voicemail? It is good enough for me. When you have listened to your voicemail, the details will be gone as well.

2. You can see the Audio tuning parameters... They are bunch of numbers and I have a hard time to find the higher level service manual about them. Plus, I am very used to Nokia's soft-volume tradition. So I would not mind with 6265i because there are some models even softer.

3. Download screensaver via WAP... so far, I have tried with several sites, it does not work quite properly.

1 I was just wondering if there was anything specila when you anable it.

2The earpiece volume is okay sometimes and other times low.

3 oh okayy I was not sure what the benefit of enabling it are.

1. Menu 3 > 4 > 2

2. Yes, live with it

3. Neither I find it useful.

I have a little problem, I somehow missed backing this file up. I made back ups of the "locked_theme_elem" folder and "themes.ini", but not theme_lock.xml.

Is there someway someone can send this to me from their Nokia 6265i?

Thanks! siccness_ca@hotmail.com

siccness_ca,

Welcome to HoFo!

And, I have told many times and shown in my screenshot... PLEASE BACK UP the files you are going to change / delete in MobiMB and PRI Settings in Diego BEFORE any mod!

So start to form a new habbit

everytime i try to connect my phone to the computer through a CA-53 cable, my phone says "use phone as a storage device?" and my computer says "USB device not recognized" I do not have USB 2.0 ports, does that affect anything? i don't think it should, because i already de-telus-er-ized my main menu with mobiMB, but now mobiMB doesn't work.

blibbertibs,

Yes, it has little to do with USB2.0 or the programs involved. Driver? Perhaps. I believe it is more about the card compatibility. Some cards are confirmed not working at all or partially working (i.e. some device will not recognize it while your phone can or vice versa).

Posted by: blibbertibs

Hey HC

It's 3am, but I finally hacked everything. The USB port does affect it, because I went to my uncle's computer and the phone connected without any problems (he has USB2.0). Woot woot!

Thank you.

blibbertibs,

This is great! Well, I know that some computers (especially notebook) may not provide enough juice to the USB ports. It will cause the problem. My notebook do have USB2.0 because it shows the problems like yours sometimes.

But hey, who's care now? Enjoy the FRIENDLY FUTURE!

Posted by: JediPhiL

Hi

I followed every instruction to the letter for the mp3 ringtones, but when i try to assign the mp3 as ringtones, they all sound the same, a simple "bip"... even for the tone that were originally on the phone. Does anybody have any idea what causes this??

I have been able to hack the camera sound option successfully, but i cant seem to make the mp3 ringtones fonction correctly.

I also made the newbie mistake of not backing up my files, I wonder if this causes a problem at this time because I have absolutely no ringtones except for this beep for every ringtone or mp3 file.

I also get the local mode screen and I have to remove the battery after I write the settings back to my phone, however I uninstalled the Nokia PC Suite because it seems like there were some differences in the driver that Diego and that software used.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

JedPhiL,

First, a very dumb troubleshoot step: Have you set the Incoming Call alert to Beep Once? Check your current Profile setting... Menu > 8 Settings > 1 Profiles > [Pick the one you are currently using] > 2 Customize > 1 Incoming call alert > 1 Ringing

I have encountered this problem once but was with another Nokia model (and a Motorola GSM RAZR, no need to mod/hack but it just happens by itself) and very long time ago. Basically, double check the PRI item corresponding to that and reboot the handsets manually is the first thing to try.

Where the files you are storing? In the ringtone, MiniSD card or My Albums\Music folder? How do you transfer those files into the phone and from which sources? Bluetooth from one phone to yours or using the Nokia PC Suite to the phone by the data cable? I put most MP3 files into My Albums\Music folder or into the MiniSD card - ONLY the SHORT ones (like a couple of seconds) stay in the Ringtones folder. So try to move a long one to other folders and see if it is the problem.

However, it maybe a long shot but I would also take a look of those MP3 files closely like if they have DRM in placed, the sampling bit-rate as well. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...lestructure.jpg

For your mistake by not BACKING UP the PRI settings BEFORE this mod in Diego, I would not think it will change anything.

Posted by: JediPhiL

Thanks HC, that's exactly what the problem was; I was too tired list nite to notice that my profile was set to "meeting" and that is the reason why i could not hear the mp3 ringtones correctly. I found out just b4 going to bed when I plugged my celly to charge it. Everything works perfectly right now I can enjoy all my mp3 ringtones.

I thank for your quick response and all the links to the clear instructions posted on this forum.

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

JeiPhiL,

No problem! We all have little moments like that when getting exhausted.

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

There're many HoFoers asking if the data cable, DKU-2 or CA-53 be used. According to Nokia and first-hand experiences from many others, BOTH DKU-2 and CA-53 are electrically identical. So either will work.

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Folks,

Anyone get a chance to study the Audio tuning parameters for the earpiece? I have yet to come up any technical information needed. Many people in "San Diego" are really in bad mood and I can understand the bad news of Nokia CDMA.

Posted by: HighTech

Well it would be awesome if they can use Diego to tune the voice quality to make it louder and clearer like GSM

Or maybe a super RF mode

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

HighTech,

I do not entirely agree on the assertion because Nokia has been "notorious" is soft earpiece volume across the board! Some GSM models are having the same issue. My theory, like I have mentioned before, it could be intended purpose for etiquette... Either too much side-tone / background noise that may confuse our brains, then we "yell" during calls OR softer earpiece volume, so we try to focus on the conversation.

Posted by: J0nAthAn0001

Ok, I just got the 6265i 2 days ago and am still waiting on my cable from flea-bay, now here is my dillema. I upgraded from a Motorola V710 and when I got the new phone the telus rep transfered my phone book to the 6265i. The motorola had an auto-prepend "1" funtion so it added the number 1 to all my phone numbers in my phone book when it called them. Is there any way to do this with the 6265i as well or do I have to manually edit all the phone numbers myself?

Posted by: HighTech

Howard,

That makes sense. I have seen far too often people YELLING in their phone thinking that since they are far away, they can't hear right, or, the incoming audio is soo loud they need to shout back to stay at the same conversation volume.

I used my Nokia yesterday at Sears at the Markville mall with a -102 dB signal strength (NO BARS) and the audio was fine not chopping, and fairly loud. I think one needs to move the earpiece around to find the "sweet spot", since many handsets have the earpiece cupped so the sweet spot is easy. With the Nokia, and the flat earpiece and big screen, one needs to fiddle with it.

FYI, a good test for RF is the Sears LOWER level at Markville Mall near the linens. The signal stays at -93 dB to about -103 dB. The incoming audio on the Nokia was cleaner and less broken up then my Kyocera 424c "Blade" phone.

J0nAthAn0001,

Greetings.

I do not quite get the picture of what you want?! It does not sound like a Mod / Hack to me but rather a usage issue. So can you explain further in the 6265i Q&A thread instead http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=954580 THank you.

Posted by: Hypertec

HC,

I just want to thank you for you efforts. My phone is finally the nokia it should be! I've been playing around with diego for the past few hours, I'll post up any thing I come by.

Once again thank you so much

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

Hypertec,

No problem! As you see, things are not quite complicated once you have ALL the tools that required.

BTW, it is always wise to B A C K U P everything before you play with the handset PRI settings! Click on Save to File before making any changes.

Also, if anything strange happens after the change, Manually reboot the handset.

hehe, way ahead of you on that one! I already learned about not backing up pri's

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

That's why I always put the reminder in bold type or in red color everytime.

Posted by: knowledge_6

stupid question.. what is a PRI?

are those like SEEMS for the moto hacks??

when i save them are they just files??

cause with the razr all you had to do was save the seem file and just transfer the file back to the phone if u want the original setting..

similar idea??

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

knowledge_6,

It is a very fair question to ask!

PRI may sounds similar to SEEM, but they work quite differently and I would categorized it as like the FLEX instead! Unlike the things in the realm of Motorola, that can be extracted / modified / hacked with many different other means besides the original PSTs from Motorola, Nokia has been keeping its things very proprietary. When comes to CDMA, it is even more hard to find.

PRI file contains many carrier-dependent and customization settings / options / items. To some, it looks like a very long spreadsheet. However, the only way to interact with it is using the Nokia PRI editor or Diego. There is virtually no 3rd party solution for it. If one has the access to those Nokia programs, things are very straight-forward and simple. It is nothing as complicated as you may think.

Posted by: Hubris

Diego reminds me of a registry editor in Windows...you have a big long list of things on the left hand side...you scroll through them looking for the name of the thing you want to change, and the value is found on the right. Most of them are a pull-down menu where you choose the new value you want. It's really easy to do...backup your settings, make sure you make the correct change, write your changes to the phone (with the 'write to phone' button).

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

I add one more most-request item...

- To remove GPS Satellite location info sharing icon in the top of idle / standby screen...

But, PLEASE BACK UP the PRI Settings BEFORE any mod! Click on "Save to File" in Diego. If you have no clue of what I am talking about, then please do study about the advanced topic first. http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...564#post7385564

Just change the following Options...

PRI ID: 1596, Generic Features > Location Services > UI & Menu Features > Location Services Menu Hierarchy Options

From...

Option 1 - E911 Menus only

To...

Options 0 - All Location Menus Excluded

*Please note: Once you make the icon disappear, the menu in the Menu > 8 Settings > 6 Call > 1 Location info sharing will ALSO disappear. So you will no longer have access to toggle the E911 location info sharing feature.

Posted by: HighTech

What are the benefits of removing the GPS locator icon from the phone, or turning off the E911 service (i.e. Improve battery life?)?

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

HighTech,

Well, there are several people asking if they can remove the "bulky" satellite icon. So it is purely cosmetic and personal preference.

As for the E911 Location info sharing, it is an reassurance of privacy. Just like all other E911-ready handsets, whether it will work is one thing but to make sure it will NOT kick except in case of emergency is important for some who do not like "big-brother-is-watching".

I personally do not believe it will have big difference to the battery life whether it is on or E911 only. Unless TELUS really uses this feature all the time.

Posted by: HighTech

Howard,

Please read my comments again.

But in case I haven't, has anyone been able to actually increase the volume of the headset using diego, and if so, please describe exactly which settings you changed. Thanks in advance

J0AthAn0001,

And, I have posted the same question / post with no solution many times too. If you open up the PRI screen in Diego, you can see the Audio tuning parameters... They are bunch of numbers and I have a hard time to find the higher level service manual about them. Plus, I am very used to Nokia's soft-volume tradition. So I would not mind with 6265i because there are some models even softer.

I found the same settings, but to be honest, I'm not familiar enough with the software to attempt to alter them without knowing what I'm doing first. And I have to agree, there are a lot of phones that are quieter, but why should we have to put up with the low volume if we can correct it...
Hopefully someone will figure out what we need to change in the near future so I don't have to strain to hear who I'm speaking with when I'm outside.

On a side note though, thanks for the quick reply HC :-)

J0nAthAn001,

No problem! In the meantime, many of us have found workaround like "sweetspot"... Every ear is different and may find a "sweetspot" that significant enough for louder experience. Some "push" the phone against their ears to form a better "seal"

Posted by: wyze

unfortunately this phone is too low for my ears sometimes even with a headset, my hearings kinda off from tuning sound systems all day

hope someone can find it out, going to check it in the meantime

aside from that has anyone been able to find anything towards a fast forward / rewind for the media player?

Posted by: keitaro2k1

haha we have gotten almost every mod done on this phone, now we should figure out a way to remove the telus logo on the external case! part of the back came off with wear i think (sweat from hands).. i dunno..

but i would not use acetone, since it will melt the plastic.. hrm... anyone got any ideas what can be used?

keitaro2k1,

The one on the battery cover is rather to deal with. No acetone, no dremel, no sandpaper... but one of the most expensive tools in this world: Finger-nail! I scratched it off on day 1 http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...204#post7639204 You can use a piece of thin cloth to wrap around your finger to assist. Some texture will help the process. From time to time, you can moist the surface with water. It helps to clean up the mess and cool down your finger. Anyway, be patience and not too forceful. Otherwise, it may get blemish.

The one on the front near the bottom of the screen is another story. I do not want to scratch the screen or buttons as they are so nearby.

the fast forward, hold down the forward button and it will skip about 2 seconds at a time. same for rewind. also to skip to a track enter the number of it.

Since we're now getting down to wishes (I'm pretty impressed at the number of mods already).....does anyone know how to remove the TELUS animated logos after you turn on the phone (and the Nokia logo runs)......and when you power off the phone?

Posted by: milfette

wouldnt that be part of the detelusing your phone, those instructions are in the first post... unless im wrong?

Posted by: Hubris

I thought deTELUSizing your phone was just the menus.....not the logon animation. I just got my data cable yesterday, and had to do some fighting to get both Diego and Nokia PC Suite working on the computer at once....so I haven't got around to getting a current version of MobiMB running to take some of the steps...

Posted by: milfette

id try but i cant run either program. i might get to take a shot at it if i can convince my bf to get a data cable cuz he has a pc and same phone

Hubris,

If you have followed the steps in http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...331#post7385331 AND have swithced the theme from the "default" one to others BEFORE delete the .xml file, you would find...

Quote:
7. Cycle the power (i.e. REBOOT, turning off and on) the 6265i. *A bonus... There will be no more TELUS-rized power-on / shut-down animation / jingle too!

Reboot a few more times but make sure to stay away from the TELUS-rized "default" theme that I have been telling!

milfette,

Not for Mac OS and EVEN if you run virtualized Windows on the "MacIntel" (some say yes but very unstable)! You are better to find a PC.

read that again

i WOULDN try but i CANT
bf has a pc... two even...
and a 6265i
all we need is a data cable but im not gonna buy it cuz i have no use for it

Works only on MP3s! All Nokia series 40 are the same & your option is to break the large file into smaller ones.

Folks,

- Mods to get Google Maps working

This one is rather a mod to an external JAVA app, Google Maps. So it can be used on the 6265i.

Several members told when going to Google Maps Mobile WAP site and attempt to download it but keeps getting Error 403 Forbbiden. While TELUS may charge address / location look-up as another value-added servuce.... so go figure.

But, please read the very first post in this thread about how to Change the way how the Java apps are stored / can be accessed... http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=962591

Then go to the this post for the instruction to download the Google Maps and modifying the JAD file...

http://howardforums.com/showthread....193#post7657193

*Please note: at the moment I post this message, I can only find that the usage of Google Maps will be billed as 5c per page Wireless Web surf_anywhere session, through the myTELUSmobility data usage summary. However, until my monthly invoice has been issued and shows the official usage, I do not know if it will be billed as high as $15 per 1MB Internet Anywhere by TELUS! So beware of the potential big bill! I will keep you updated on this one when the daily data usage summary could confirm with it.

ddasilva99,

Most direct links lead to proprietary software as such are dead. The more we talk about it, the sooner manufacturers like Nokia will shut it down...

http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=968187
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...603#post7684603

This is the very same reason that I have NEVER posted where you can download it or even "crack" it.

Posted by: ddasilva99

Thank you everyone for your post. I am having problems connecting my phone to the software. It states in the software that I am connected (under the green box) but when I select download PRL it says phone connection is not established

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

ddasilva99,

Your question is beyond the scope of this thread of discussion. I would not mind to answer it in private.

http://telusmobility.com/ab/pcs/acc...i.shtml#earsets

i looked up accessories under nokia 6265i and this is what i got....
go to the data accessories heading and it says telus usb data kit....

is that the CA 53 USB cable? or a similar cable that you can use to hook your 6265i up to your pc with?

Posted by: HC - NO "i"

musicman929,

This question is a little off-topic but you have brought up a good point about the data cable that is essential for most of the mods we are discussing here in this thread and beyond.

I cannot confirm with you on that kit selling by TELUS, contains a genuine Nokia / after-market / compatible CA-53 or DKU-2. I have not seen, tried the kit myself. However, given the fact that many and I have already tried / proved that even a after-market CA-53 / DKU-2 works with the 6265i (and other compatible models) in the reference of http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=832865 , also the TELUS' branded reputation, I will not worry too much.

Anyone manage to increase the contact image size?
After reading through these forums I'm pretty sure you can't...but I'm hoping someone knows something I don't

Posted by: Hubris

The contact image sizes are set with the base OS....it would be a much larger hack than just making a change within Diego to make them fullscreen.

whothis,

NO, as long as the actual connection go through TELUS proxy and AAA gateway, there is no free lunch.

Posted by: blibbertibs

when i connect my phone, it asks "switch to data mode?" or something, and the computer says "USB device not recognized". I've done everything right, as far as I know. I've been able to get it to connect on about 1% of the attempts. When the connection works, the computer should say "nokia 6265i is ready to use" or something like that, and the phone says "data enhancement connected" or something like that. But, most of the time, it says the device is not recognized. Is there something wrong with my data cable? My phone's connecting port? my phone's settings?

How can I set my phone's media player to play ALL types of tracks and not just mp3?

Posted by: Hubris

You shouldn't need to change that....the change is to allow any media to be used as a ringtone - but it should play mp3s, video etc out of the box.

Media player being a separate menu option from Audio player....

Posted by: coldcell

Actually no.. my phone doesnt recognize .wmv for example. The music plays fine in my PC but the phone says file not recognized.

Posted by: anachronism

Because .wmv isn't a supported format.

Yes, but unfortunately there is no way to make or edit playlists on the actual phone itself. You have to use Nokia PC Suite or MobiMB to edit the lists on the PC, and then transfer them via data cable.

Tons of them on Ebay....search for CA-53 or DKU-2. Both will work.

Posted by: musicman929

ok, this is probably the dumbest question ever, but can you use mp3's as ringtones via messing with nokia pc suite?

Posted by: Hubris

Not solely with PC suite...first you have to use Diego to disable the DRM restrictions...otherwise it won't allow an MP3 for a ringtone, only as media for the music player. Once you have opened up the phone, you can use PC Suite to move mp3's onto the phone, where they can be selected.

Just a thought on anyone who is curious about free wap for their telus 6265i phone.

If you manage to change your server settings through *3001#12345# to an open/free proxy then you won't actually get free wap. BUT! you can download and access java/jar files from sites OTHER than telus. I imagine download charges apply, so if you are too impatient to wait for a CA-53 cable for your 6265i, then change the server settings and download to your hearts content! (remember .. charges apply)

So I would not mind with 6265i because there are some models even softer.

I believe you're looking for an option like "read from phone"

Posted by: HolyMoto

yes, I am well aware I need to read from the phone.

Posted by: Hubris

Well, once you have read the settings from the phone, you'll be looking at the PRI data. The relevant settings are spread throughout the PRI....minimize the carrier-specific stuff, and look through everything.

Posted by: HolyMoto

Here is what I see when I read phone settings. I see PRI nowhere...

I think you need at least version 3.06 of Diego...

Posted by: HolyMoto

anyone know about an engineering version of Diego? I do not have access to the Product/Software Stream features. and what does PRI ID: 946 mean? is that some kind of search code?

Posted by: Hubris

Diego is entirely an engineering product....it's NOT intended for consumer use, which is why it isn't easy to locate it.

PRI 946 is the ID that will be located in one of the sub-menus of the screen you posted. Unless something has changed between version 3.07 that I'm using and 3.09 that you have, you have already located exactly what you are asking about.

That being said.....the menu shown in your screenshot is somewhat more limited than when I read the settings from my phone.....the top level menus include provider-specific information for all the major telcoms (which are largely useless) and a bunch of other settings that either you haven't selected, or that aren't being shown. If that's what you're getting at....the fact that you aren't seeing everything in Diego.....I don't know the answer - when I read settings from my phone using the same procedure you are.....I see more in that screen.

Posted by: HolyMoto

Hubris,

Thank you, I'm not going crazy. I think my tech just used the engineering version thing as a quick solution. I am getting the feeling that this version 3.09 is not all it's cracked up to be, limiting my access to feature menus. People seem to be succeeding up to that version. hmm... now i need an earlier version. This is a lot of work to turn the shutter sound off. I'd settle for the rooster noise

Posted by: ShadeZ

Is there a setting in Diego that gives us access to Speed Dial slot 1? Or is there any way to edit the number that slot 1 dials enough to enter hard pauses? I found the place that shows 'my mailbox number' , but it didn't accept pause entries.

It would be nice to edit slot 1 rather than have to setup a Voicemail entry in the phone book and use up another speed dial slot.

Sorry i dont know if i understood your question but if you are refering to having your voicemail speed dial #1 auto dial your password for you as well than you just cycle through the * like you would when trying to get the letter "C" in a txt msg... you press "2" three times... if you press * once you get "*", twice "+", three times "p"... so now my mailbox number is <10-digit number>p<password>#

HolyMoto,

Everything you see in the screen is PRI setting itself! When you move the mouse over a particular item in the right pane, there will be a little pop-up window showing the PRI ID.

To locate a particular PRI ID, use the FIND button with the search parameters. Then click on the result(s), it will be there highlighted.

HolyMoto,

As long as you use the PKD-1RD dongle (or "something equivalent"), everything shows.

Enter "Camera Sound" or the PRI ID "946" as search parameters with the FIND feature I mention above. I do not believe a few clicks would be "a lot work".

I am trying to use the data cable, not bluetooth. What am I doing wrong, or????? Adding ringtones etc seems to work fine.

Ricktye,

Sounds like you have an older version of MobiMB that cannot properly work with the 6265i. I am using the current licensed version, v3.2.1.

Hey guys, just wondering when I use Diego and I write the settings back to my phone, my phone will show the words 'Local Mode', and I wait for a bit and it doesn't go away and I can't seem to power on my phone again. I actually have to take out the battery and then it will go away and I can power up my phone.

Should I be able to power it up without doing this?

Ahhhh, could be, I have 3.2.0. Will try and find 3.2.1 and hopefully that will fix my problem.

I dont know if it is SUPPOSE to do that but mine does that as well. All the PRI changes work fine so i am not really concerned that its doing any harm to just pull the batt.

MobiMB 3.2.1. still soft boots my 6265i

I've found that messing around in the menus on the phone while it's plugged into data causes it to soft-boot. Unplug it and the problem goes away.

I believe *.sis files can only be used on the Symbian OS...so that's like smart phones and such. I don't think it is compatible with the 6265i.
If it works, let us know! I'll do anything to get that caller ID larger

.sis is definately only for smart phones....not for OS40 like ours.

Can someone confirm whether video ringtones come in larger than the static pictures? That's a way around small images if it works...

Video ringtones are significantly larger than contact images. The only problem I've found with this is that there is no white overlay in the background, so the text becomes hard to read on a dark background. Anyone know how to fix this?

Anyway, to answer your question, the video ringtone takes up the full width, and about half the height of the screen, so I guess it is kind of like a workaround. Great idea!

Hi, I love all the "hacks" on this site. Everything has worked perfectly for me, I was just wondering where I could find some decent J2ME apps for my phone. A better Media Player would be awesome.

Posted by: anachronism

Switch it to 24 hour clock.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has had problems transferring files from MobiMB. For example, when I'm trying to transfer a bunch of photos that I took from my phone, it will not allow me to drag and drop all of them. I can only drag one at a time, and after about 4 photos, I cannot copy anymore of them. This happens when I disconnect and reconnect my phone.

Anyone got any ideas what is going on here?

Whitee,

It involves changing the PRI setting. Please read the latter half of the instructions...

Quote:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=799324 PRI ID: 946, Product/Software Stream features > Camera/Pictures Menu & User Settings > Camera Sounds Menu (*Note: Please respect others' privacy and self-regulate! I do not like the annoying sound but I DO know when / where is NOT the right moment / place to take picture.)

I don't know if it's really a "hack" exactly, but does anybody know how to make the background overlay show up for video contacts? What I mean is when a person calls without an image or video, there is a light white overlay on top of the background, displaying the number and the call ID. When you choose an image, the overlay is present as well as the small contact image to the right. However, when you choose a video tone, there is no longer a white overlay, and the video takes up about half the screen. The problem is, with darker backgrounds, it makes the number hard to read above the video.

Any help is appreciated!

Do hacked mp3 ringtones only work for individual contacts? I tried setting my profiles to use mp3 ringtones but they always play the nokia tune. The only way I've been able to use an mp3 ringtone was to set an individual contact tone...

Posted by: anachronism

Are you changing themes? If you are, it will reset all your ringtones and you'll have to reassign them each time you finish applying a new theme.

At least that is how it is on an unhacked phone, I'm sure it would be the same for a hacked one.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I figured out what the problem was. I accidentally had a caller group ringtone on, so everytime I tried to test my general mp3 ringtone from a phone in that caller group, it would play the group's tone instead! It was frustrating when I didn't realize it, but now it's all good

First you'll want to check the compatibility of your intended 2gb miniSD card on HCnoI's list: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=942677
And you can record a video clip as long as you space permits. The phone comes with 20mb internal memory and is set to record to this internal memory by default, so that's the limit to how long you can record. You'd have to hack it to change the target folder to be on the miniSD so you could record on the longer 2gb, though.

Yes, animated GIF's are supported for backgrounds (and still animate). Though I wouldn't recommend it as it kills your battery

I would highly recommend it! I love this phone and it has not really disappointed me since

You don't need to hack your phone to play mp3's. Your 6265's Music Player should be able to play them out of the box.

play as ringtones

You don't have to hack anything, just launch the camera, go into options, settings, and change the 'Image and Video Storage folder" to the miniSD and it is that simple to get over two hours of recording available (assuming an empty card)

Is there a way to edit the 1-touch button #1 for voice mail so I can add in the p's and my password for a true 1-touch voice mail?

Yup, when you're in the voicemail box number after your ten digit number cycle through the "*" button like you would when typing on your cell phone press * three times for the pause "p" and you should be good to go... goodluck

Its possible to edit the voicemail number to add pauses and keystrokes but it will only work once. The number will be reset to just the ordinary 11 digits after you hang up. Its really annoying.

I resorted to assigning #5 as voicemail with all the pauses and keystrokes there so it just goes straight to new messages without me having to do anything. I have two numbers assigned to voicemail but its easier than having to do it manually.

Sorry but at the present moment there is no way to increase the volume on the handset.

Folks,

While many of us have already scratched the printed TELUS logo on the battery cover - with our finger-nail or using nail polish remover, manlyputter has found an intriguing way to avoid the potential scratches / blemish... S U G A R !!!

How? http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=997858

Hey guys, how do i do this "In order to get around, it has to change those CDMA-specific icons with Nokia Theme Studio" I've asked around and searched but i cant find any answers... i just want to load my own icons in my custom themes...

thanks

Posted by: lex888

If you already have Nokia Theme Studios, then you go into

main menu tab -> menu icons tab

then select the icon you want to change

scroll down and you should see: List, Grid, Animated Grid

go to each one and change the pictures from there

I'm not sure about what the actual size of the icon should be.

Let me know if this helps.

I've changed it on mine and it works.
