Getting rid of "Unknown Caller" on V166

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Though it was not a problem just 1 month ago, my wife's phone, a Motorola v166, always shows "Unknown Caller" when an incoming call comes in. My phone, the same model, is set up just like hers but if the person calling is in my phone book, their name shows up. If not, I see their number at least.

I've gone through line by line in the set up and we are exactly alike except for wallpaper and ring tone.

Any ideas how this problem might be solved? I don't subscribe to caller id with my provider here in so I don't think that is it. Any ideas?

Many thanks!

You must be subscribed to Caller ID, otherwise the phone will always show "Unknown Call"

you are subscribed to caller id because its showing on your phone. your wifes phone on the other hand, does not have caller ID on her CELLULAR ACCOUNT, this has nothing to do with her phone.

I searched my seem edit file and found some interesting info... But first I have never had the problem, and second, I'm not at all familiar with the V166 (I couldn't even find the model on Motorola's site).

I found the following, but do not really have first hand knowledge of what they may do. Both are for "incoming" calls, but the description is confusing:

SEEM 0032_0001
offset 14 - bit 0: Settings > In-Call Setup > My Caller ID > All Calls (1 on, 0 off)

SEEM 0032_0001
offset 1C - bit 7: Settings > In-Call Setup > My Caller ID (1 on, 0 off)

Anyone care to offer their 2¢ ?

Nothing like bad information to confuse everyone involved. My phone is a V188 and not a V166. My apologies.

MTC (my local provider here in Russia) says my account is not set up for Caller ID and neither is my wife's. Even so, I can see calls coming in and she can't. The mystery continues...

Thanks to everyone and again I am sorry for the confusion...

thats for outgoing calls, it blocks your number from showing when calling somebody. has nothing to do with receiving incoming numbers

also to the OP, try changing your sim card in your wifes phone and vice a versa.

I thought that at first too, but they are listed under In-Call Set-up, not outgoing call set-up...

SEEM 0032_0001
offset 14 - bit 0: Settings > In-Call Setup > My Caller ID > All Calls (1 on, 0 off)

SEEM 0032_0001
offset 1C - bit 7: Settings > In-Call Setup > My Caller ID (1 on, 0 off)

there isnt a menu called outgoing call setup. and besides, it clearly states in the motomanual which comes with your razor that this blocks outgoiong number presentation when you call someone, so all they see is unknown or private call
