Samsung ZX-30 : Who ? What ? When ? Where ? How ?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I figured I would start a thread about any information people have about the Samsung ZX-30, I think this might be my last ' Cingular ' phone before any AT&T rebranding occurs.

They have to release the ZX-20 before they can get to the ZX-30...

before rebranding? don't think so....

My thoughts exactly, I dont see the point in even discussing it right now.

There were some who were interested in the features this handset might have, or when it might arrive.

Sorry if I sounded rude.

Does anyone even know the differences between the 30 and the 20?

We all know you use google to sound like you know what you talking about anyways.

A possible new feature would be 3.6 Mbps HSDPA rather than 1.8 .

I thought that was more of a network limitation right now instread of hardware enabled.

I read that the Cingular network is currently optimized for the 3.6 mbps, it is just awaiting the terminal equipment.

Here is an article briefly discussing it:

Also this article mentions Cingular's network capabilities, although Cingular might have some caps on the speeds available now, naturally :

That's correct. The network is capable of 3.6 Mbps HSDPA there just haven't been any PC cards or phones with that class of HSDPA yet.

Posted by: Network 10

I believe that there are other software releases after that.

Category 8 : ~7.2 mbps
Category 10 : ~14.4 mbps

There are also HSUPA upgrades to increase the uplink speed.

Cingular has really chosen a golden technology, it is future proof, until the next break through technology appears.

Um i would like to pick that up.

I dont understand what the point is of having such a fast *** cell phone half of us buy it on impulse because we think its so great and then we dont even have a laptop or LaptopConnect to hook it up with? whats the point

so one can carry on a conversation all that much quicker.

There is no SGH-ZX30 anywhere to be found on the net...

Not on Samsung's tech train, not on FCC Gulfoss, not qualified with the bluetooth organization...

Wishfull thinking made of model number?

let me know if you can find something on a samsung c417, and no about the model number. thats what they, sammy, is throwing around.

I agree with the fast speed download doesn't really do too much for cell phones in the future, unless they can also speed up the time it takes to establish a connection with the network for downloading.

It's great to have an ultra-fast sustainable downloading speed, but if the time it takes to establish connection is as long as it is now - then it's kind of useless (people using EDGE or 3G network cards can attest to this).

Just my 2 cents.

I don't know where everyone (including the authors) get the idea that the network is currently capable of what ever speed the devices are capable of. It is usually that both need updates. For the mobile devices it is the chipset that needs to be updated with the faster codes to allow transmission of data that fast (it was the same with EDGE at it's launch). The network often needs updated software to allow for the increased data speeds as well. Not to mention the sites need to have enough t1s to allow that much data. I wouldn't be surprised if the transport on some sites are not upgraded to allow for the full HSDPA speeds, since they all are not likely to need it.

Also, many people forget that like other broadband technologies, the full stated speed (3.6mbps, 7.2mbps, 14.4mbps, etc.) is shared with other users on that same channel, like a cable modem. That means several users can cut down on your total potential speed if they are using too much bandwidth. That's why these type of technologies try to shoot for the highest speed they can get. It's not going to give each individual user the full speed. It is the total speed divided by all users who are taking bandwidth simultaneously at that moment in time. Normally, this is not a problem because rarely two people on the same channel hit the download button at the same time, but it can become a problem if too many people are connected to the same channel at the same time. But to alleviate this, other channels and sites are always available.

Geez! I'm so glad we can discuss these topics in peace without the troll that used to visit the Cingular forum.

That would be 4G. Coming to you real soon.

4G? All of the stated speeds were UMTS (3G) speeds and technologies. Sounds to me like everyone likes to ram up the G's... but it's all 3G to me.

I sure can't wait for 3.96758G to come out though.
