W800-->w810 case mod (Almost Finished)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Heya.

I've been tweeking out my w800 innards to get it to work properly with the w810 case. As you all know, the PCB board of the w800 does not match the key configuration of the w810 case and buttons, but through a little "nub" tweeking on the back of the w810 keypad, I was able to get all the buttons to work perfectly if the w800 PCB board (well, the w810 walkman button and app buttons do nothing). Actually, the numbers do a decent job of lining up on their own.

I still haven't gotten around to modding the joystick park (that one is going to take a bit of creativity), but I'm still using the w800 joystick for now. In fact the only loss of functionality I have at the moment is the lack of the dedicated walkman button, however I can still use my fingernail to press the PCB button.

Please........Do you think if I was trying to front that I owned a w810, I would tell anyone that I modded a w800.

I messed around with the w800 'cause people said it was not possible to switch covers to a w810, not because I can't afford the w810. That and the fact that I have already preordered a N73.

Seriously...this is the modding section...so whats with the "peasanty" and "dishonest" shyte.

it's expense not expence.

anyways, OP did you manage to get the backplate to fit on your phone, cause i'm having troubles getting it to fit on my phone.

i have a w810 middle plate. would the camera slide switch interfere with mounting the 810 backplate?

Thats pretty sick the houseing being changed. But, overall i i dislike the feel of the 810i its feels to plasticly for me and here in Toronto i feel its over rated. It seems if you have a w810i here your like a god or somethign even teh the Raz v3C i had to convice my friend to buy the w600i instead of the crappy razr phone.....

I personally would prefer the W800 housing if only for the lens cover.

I have given up on the w800-->w810 mod. It is truly impossible to do anything with the joystick due to its center location on each model (well, unless you want to mess around with the joystick module and PCB board....which I don't). The back, however, does mount just fine after a few cuts with a sharp blade.

In the aftermarket w810 case I bought, the round portion of the back plate that circles the lens is a separate piece that snaps in and out of the rest of the back plate. This underlaps the visible portion of the back plate, and is a little less than 1mm. If you cut this out around the w800 lens switch, you will have enough room for the switch to sit under the w810 back plate.

I have decided that I like the black phone look, and have since kept the w8100 middle plate, and have put on a k750 front and back. Now I have a true identity crisis phone (w800, with a w810 middle plate, and a k750 front and back.

As you can see from the first picture, the keyboard area of the front case doesn't want to sit flush with the middle case, but that just might be the quality of the "OEM" case that I bought.

looks pretty good

can you explain how you removed the internal boards from the original w800 middle plate? I'm looking to do a full w810 housing swap.

Posted by: know1

After removing the front and back plates, you can go on to remove all ribbon wire connectors, then you gingerly (and I mean very carefull-like) flex the middle casing until you can probe the top section of the circuit board away from the casing. Do it from the top first, because the bottom is actually inserted into the fastport plastic.

I am sure I'm forgetting a few steps, so nevermind. It just seemed to make sense while I had it open, but I can't seem to remember all the little pitfalls along the way.

Posted by: phattbam

do you know if there's a link somewhere that shows how to remove it?? I'll try parts of what you described just curious to know what else to look out for.

That looks fantastic, great job!!

i can't even fathom opening up such an expensive phone and performing unecessary surgery on it, but it looks great. you've got some balls man.

Theres the guide I used when I didn't know what I was doing.

another one done!!

Interesting mod, but I wouldn't do it. Ruins the phone look a bid. Make a custom W810i front cover, mod it up. All you need is like bondo and paint

The Chinese translation is funny. Let me try to put it back in English word by word.

"You hotlinking my phone's picture. Also I try translation page. This is my W800 using W810 planter. All buttons usage. I then change it to W810 body and K750 front line and back plate. This is an experiment in DIY."

Question:

im new at this thing, and everything above looks really interesting. If i were to order a k750 back cover from cnn.cn, would it fit together nicely with an original w810i? Sorry if it was covered earlier. If not, how can i fit them together? Overall, i just want a great custom looking phone...sort of like something above in teh pics.

thanks!

Posted by: blupupher

Yes, the K750 fits the W810, you just need to trim the two top tabs off the 750 housing and it is a perfect fit (you also need to order a battery cover). The W800 back also fits the W810.

nice mod. black ftw

Posted by: XxMadDogxX

Is any way some body can post a picture what tabs have to be trimmed on a back of k750 to fit a back of w810i PLEASE. Thanks a lot.

Posted by: aziz145

Yeahhh a pic would really help. Cuz im not really sure which tabs need to be trimmed. and also, will it matter if i order an OEM k750 housing, or just a general housing that looks decent?

thanks.
