panasonic vs3 usb cable problems

Hi to everyone,
i desperately ask your help to connect my vs3 to pc tru usb! i've a compatible cable, with "pan x800" written on it, i downloaded the program from panasonic support site and installed but nothig! windows keep sayin' "unknown device" when i plug the cable in! i've windows xp professional sp2 running on my desktop and i even tried on my laptop pc to configure this device!!!
Please help me somehow i don't know what to do!!! some people says mine cable doesn't work with windows xp professional, anyone can say if it's true??
