V635 - Totally stumped...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: element27

I first flashed my v635about 6 months ago and it didn’t go so well to say the least...lol. The reason I am starting a new thread is because after hours upon hours of searching and reading I still haven’t been able to get it back.

Here’s the weird part, my phones symptoms are not quite the same as anything I have read up to now. Here's what it does...

I have flashed with like every monster pack out there and after every flash the phone screen turns off and never comes on again. when i hold the power button the keypad lights up for a second and then turns off, nothing else happens.

I flashed the bootloader a few times too and with 07D0 and 07E0 the # * <PWR> does not bring up flash mode on the screen but it does make it ready to flash on the PC. With bootloader 08.21 the # * <PWR> combo preps it on the PC and the screen on the phone says...

Code:
Boot Loader 08.21 SW Version Not Found OK to Program USB Transfer Mode

In RSD Lite it shows up as an S Flash Neptune LTE and all of the flashes are sucessfull in that and in FlashFlex. RSD also shows the following all the time after every flash...

Code:
ESN: N/A Technology: N/A Software Version: ERROR NOT FOUND! Flex Version: ERROR NOT FOUND! Bootloader Version: (what ever one I am using at the time) DRM Version: N/A Phone Type: Production (bunch a #'s)

Sorry about the long post, just wanted to be thorough, I'm a nube at this after all (though it doesn’t feel like that after the last 2 days

Please Help!!!

Later all,
Ed.

Oh yaa, i forgot to mention something, it seems I no longer need to have the battery in the phone in order to be able to get a sucessfull flash???

I'm assuming for now that you have installed RSDlite 2.5/2.6 and have the 24R monsterpack available. You'll probably want some later monsterpacks as well.

Step 1 - Fully charge your phone. Just leave it plugged in for a couple hours.
Step 2 - Close your phone and plug it into your USB cable
Step 3 - Start RSDlite click the [...] button and locate the 24R monsterpack.
Step 4 - Click [Start] - RSDlite will throw a warning about a blank phone, hit Yes to continue flashing.
Step 5 - Leave your phone & computer alone while your phone is flashed, this may take up to 10 minutes, be patient

NOTE: RSDlite may crash after rebooting the phone since some 24R monsterpacks don't have "Data/Fax Connection" set as the default USB connection. If this happens disconnect your phone from the USB connection and check to see if the flash was successful. If so Force RSDlite to close.

Step 6 - When RSDlite says the flash is complete, disconnect your phone and check to see if the flash was successful.
Step 7 - Reboot your phone and repeat steps 2-6 with later version monsterpacks. CHECK YOUR BATTERY LEVEL if you're doing a lot of flashing.

Thanks for the reply, Still nothing though... This was the process I have been doing each time, I thought maybe it was because I was using RSD Lite 2.3 so I found 2.5 and still didnt work.

After flashing is done RSD Lite says it is rebooting phone and just hangs at 0%. the phone shuts down but never comes back on. pressing the power button makes the keypad flash and then turn off. if I #* it into the flash mode RSD changes its status to pass but flash mode is the only thing I can get the phone to start up into.

Could I be using the wrong bootloader?

Thanks,
Ed.

Sounds like PDS problem. However, is there any problem with your cable and/or connections? Anyway, there shouldn't be any problem with your bootloader. Now, the only monster pack that comes with a PDS is the 6FR MP that you can get from www.motomodders.net
Sometimes, not all modding skills are equal. If you still can't get it to work I suggest you bring it back to Rogers.

Posted by: element27

bring it back to Rogers??? LOL, that will kill all the fun. I'll look into the PDS issue but I know I've allready had a so called "sucessfull" flash with 6FR. I'll look into the flash file I used with flashbackup to see if it included the PDS.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take all I can get!!!

are you sure it isn't a screenflip problem? try taking a toothpick or something and press the screen toggle button (little rubber thing under the hinge). Try holding it down and hitting the power button

Posted by: element27

Ya, I tried that too... I read that it may just think its closed when it's open and got super excited for a second...lol. No go. I'm really starting to think that Happyplato is right and it's a PDS issue. My problem now is that nothing I have read about MRS or ramldr seems to work quite right. I havent had time to play with it for a while now but I'll try again tonight. I'll post my findings.

Thanks and later all,
Ed.

You HAVE tried flashing it with a 24R monsterpack, right? That's what fixed mine when it was bricked exactly like yours

Posted by: element27

Ya, I tried that too, same result... I dont know, I think I'm getting to the point of giving up on it... Motorola Repair Studio always comes up with a failed erase and the phone disconnects, tells me to reconnect it in flash mode, I do, it does some other stuff and then comes up with "failed repair now boot into flash mode and flash it" or somethin like that...lol.

It's not that urgent, I have my new V3i that I am loving right now but I sure would have loved to get this one working again, this was one of the best phones I've ever owned.

Oh well, if anyone has any other ideas I'll try anything but other than that I'm just going in circles right now...

Thaks for all your ideas guys,

I am having the exact issue with a 635. I bought another to get a backup from and ended up with 2 bricked. I got the 24R MP and the 2nd came back to life but no matter what combo of bootloaders and MP's and reflashes will revive it. It will say pass on the flash but nothing. I have tried repair studio. even have it telling me to flash with a MP so it is supposed to have repaired my pds but still no luck.Guess I have to buy a smart clip to fix this one. I am not exactly a noob I have repaired and modded over 100 phones but this one has me stumped.

Posted by: element27

This was my first phone flashed and first phone bricked so I guess I'm a nube of sorts though it feels like I've done enough reading to know way more than the average nube...lol. Sadistically enough it feels better to know that I'm not alone bricking a 635...lol.

If by some miracle I make any progress I'll post but ya, I too think that nothing short of special hardware like a smart clip is gonna help this situation.

Later all,
Ed.

I'm always n0000b(lol), yet it's amazing i've never f****ed my V635 if it's the only phone that leaves modders stumped...
Your taking this surprisingly well, which is good, because i'd start crying xD but I suppose it's because you've got two other phones. So, imagine a granny in your head saying "cooool", for no apparent reason...

I suppose if I've flashed my phone from 24R to 6DR then to 6FR, 6FR, 6FR (broke it maybe a few times, seem from other phone >< etc.) then I'm a "MODDAR", cooool!
Yah, my modding goes as far as skins, menus, SEEM features, gain tables, pirated *ahem* Java games (yup, with pirates in *cough*)...

I had a similar problem, your pds is corrupted, u need to use the last monsterpack u had on the phone. charge the phone fully, after flashing take out battery, take out transflash, stick on adapter for a few minutes, put battery in and try switching on again, I bricked mine twice in playing with it and had no s/w version, and blank neptune device, smartclip will revive phone as that can repair pds. Also the motor repair studio erases the phone completely as you probarbly used the demo version, it will put the wrong pds for the phone and your phone s/w will think it is a e398 or something else. Also use a monsterpack with booloader included. If you made backups with flashbackup, then a few threads on hofo show u how to extract and repair/replace pds. search on hofo. good luck.

I just recieved my smart clip...howev er I am in the states and the new computer I bough does not have the port to hook it up....I will be back in Trinidad with my old computer on the 17th....I'll let you know if it works then....

I used my sns computer and hooked up my clip....I now have a working 635....I also unlocked and repaired a v3....I think I,m gonna like this little thing....

dude, the problem with the v635 is the ATi Graphic chipset ( 215w2262bfb12g) witch you can see if you remove the metal foil under the top part of your phone where the card is (remove the the horseshoe thingy first then the blue plastic thing and take off the 4 little scrues). The metal plate is rather large and comes off by removing it off 2 plastic clips. Now... this is how o found out...

I bricked my phone by triyng to flash 90d i think... same problem.. noboot... After 2 months of triyng to revive it, i took it apart and played with the pats. Just for the f**k of it i tryed to flash it assambled with the top part of the clamshell dissasambled (screen hanging and all). In the process of flashing I touched the ATi chip and... OUCH!!!! f**n' HOT!!! MAMA!! The flash was of course, unsuccesfull, althrought RDS Lite told me it was (as usual). So I got an ideea. I took a tiny BGA COPPER RAM HEATSINK, i glued it on with thermal conductive glue, and stuck another BIG CPU Heatsink with fan on top of that. (a little overkill dont you think?)

Anyway, I flashed and it worked. IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!.

Now, you might say i'm nuts or stupid or something "how can the frelling* (copyright 2002 Farscape SCI-FI Channel) graphics chip have something to do with flashing the phone? Well it does. The chip isn't just a graphics chip, it's also the phone's "northbridge" as it links most of it's components together. On the web, i found it listed a graphic accelerator chip, I/O controller, CPU for PDA's and much more. When it is used as a CPU, the manufacturer warns - always USE A HEATSINK.

It isn't used as a CPU in the phone, there is a small moto chip in the back side witch does all the procesing, but the ati chip heats up when you copy stuff to/from the phone.

You DO NOT need to apply a PERMANENT heatsink to the chip, only when flasing.

It worked for me.
