LG CU500 Network Icon?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When this phone is in a 3G area is the icon simply a G or should it read 3G?

Last night when I purchased the phone I drove into an area where 3G is turned on and the phone flipped to G, I was expecting it to read 3G naturally since the Cingular brochures show images that indicate 3G is the icon.

All the other times it displays E in my area.

What are all the possible icons for this phone?

Thanks

my phone has a little 3g icon when im in a 3g zone. but when im not in a 3g zone, it has an E

that is correct

How in the world do I have a G then, without a 3 next to it?

Could it be area specific, I live in NJ on the Hudson River facing NYC, I get the G along the water in Weehawken, which according to the maps is now native 3G.

The G is for GPRS I believe

Correct G = GPRS, E = Edge, 3G = 3G :-P

The Cingular stree level map still doesn't show 3G service here in San Antonio, but it's been official for about two weeks, and active for almost 6 weeks. Maps are only as good as the infomation the are built on.

Yes, you guys are correct G must be for GPRS. I forced the phone into 3G only mode and there was no signal whatsoever, when I allowed it to search in auto mode it found a G for 1 minute then switched back to E. I guess I'm riding the wave of the future here.

ive not seen the g, yet. all i get is the E, waiting for the 3g.

well, the map for the chicago are shows me as being in 3G, yet I have to drive 10 miles to actually be in 3g.

Most of those street level maps are not based on actual recieption reports but on preductive results based on several factors such as elevation, tower location, signal strength, and as such are usually more optimistic that realistic. We've had HSDPA here in San Antonio for almost two weeks, and the street level map doesn't show 3G service.
