N-Gage QD... Help!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My best friend who has been in Thailand for the past year just came home with his N-Gage QD that he bought over there, he went to a store to try and get a SIM card for it and start up a plan over here, but he's getting no reception on Fido or Rogers when they try putting a trial SIM card in. Any ideas what might be wrong? I'd really like to help. By the way, it's not locked to a server. A company already unsuccessfully tried that. Thanks in advance

he might have the 900/1800 version iinstead of the 850/1900 one.

is it possible that the phone is locked to a frequency?
if so, would flashing the phone get rid of the lock?

well if it is true that his QD is 900/1800, there is NO WAY that u can get it to work in USA/Canada. Flashing would not help. It has nothing to do with locking the phone. The only way is to get the 850/1900 QD~

How can I tell which frequencies his phone operates off of?

press *#0000# on his phone and type whatever showed up here~
