GSM Registration: Denied

I purchased a used SK2 from a friend to set up for my girlfriend on prepaid. Had a few issues getting the account set up right as unknown to me, the sticker on the back of the screen doesn't match the IMEI of the device. Once the actual device IMEI was on the account, everything SEEMED fine. But a few days later, we're running into problems. Every so often, when my sidekick has service, hers will suddenly drop to having no network. If I check the Network Status screen on hers when this happens, it says "GSM Registration: Denied", not "searching" or "not found". Once this happens, the only way I can seem to restore service to her device is by removing and re-installing the SIM card or a full power cycle. Not even a soft reset seems to work. Is there maybe a problem with the SIM card, the IMEI, or something else?

Sounds like a possibly stolen device to me? that had the imei changed. and laws in the us say that since you bought it your responsible for it even if it's stolen.

I have a sidekick that had a broken screen and I replaced it with another screen, and so the device IMEI and screen dont match, and it's not stolen.

it's possible you got a device that was created from spare parts

I'm not so much worried about why the IMEIs don't match as I am why the device gets "kicked off" the network randomly.

the Imei on the device (from the system info screen) is the right imei for the device. it's not too uncommon to swap screens between devices to replace a broken screen, that would make the label mismatch.

GSM registration denied means that your account was denied access to the network. It's possible that your device was reported stolen, and has been locked off the network. The fact that it happens seemingly randomly is probably related - as the device's IMEI comes online to the network, it gets blown offline.

I know someone who actually took the whole screen apart and reconnected it don' t know how they did it but instead of just swapping it off she took it out of the housing and then replaced it

Jervin, I've done that, it's certainly doable, but it's pretty touchy work. Most people just swap the whole screens with the label and all, causing the IMEI label to not match the device.

my sk3 keeps going in and out of service.
It's annoying.
Never had that problem with my sk2
