Possible to Stop New Mail from Opening Automatically?

I have a Blackberry 6280 running version 4.0 for work. I know it's not the latest but, work pays for it and it does the job.

The one thing that bugs me is that when a new message comes in, as soon as I unlock the device, the email automatically opens. I realize this is done as a convenience but, sometimes I may not want to open it and would rather view it in the message list and decide. Is there any way to make that happen?

The only thing I am aware of is waiting about a minute or so, until the alert has passed and then I can open my Blackberry normally and go to the list. Any other options would be welcome.

Thanks.

I don't believe there are any other options. Waiting 20 seconds or so is the only way I know how. There are no settings or parameters to control this.

Like NJ said, I don't if there is a way to disable this less just waiting 20 seconds or so.

If you are worried about the read status, you could always mark messages you aren't ready to repond to as unread.

RIMarkable & NJBlackberry:
Thank you for the replies.
I guess there's not much I can do.
