Looking to buy a Ford Focus and I need some opinions.

I'm being forced to go to the 4 banger area no thanks to today's ridiculous gas prices so I have my eye on a Focus. the car is an '05 and it has like 19K miles on it. the dealership is asking like $13K, but they told me they'd take $10K cash.

so my question(s) is: 1) are Focus cars pretty decent cars? any good or bad points about them? 2) what do you guys think about the $10K price for an '05 2-door, automatic? 3) are these cards pretty decent on gas mileage?

-any help or suggestions will be mostly appreciated.

despite what people say about them, i actually like them. i think they're great cars and they'll stay together for the most part. There's plenty of room in the front and rear, which you wouldnt expect from such a small car. I'd say 05 w/ 19k is a steal @ 10k.

They said 10k because 13k is higher than average retail. Average retail with those miles is 11,100. A dealer wouldnt volunteer a 3,000 price drop for the hell of it, they have plenty of room to move. Tell them you were thinking more like 9k, and be firm and sure of yourself and you will own a car. And focuses or foci?? get good gas mileage.

They are a euro ford which means they are way better than a north american ford! I drive one for work and don't mind it.

Personally I would go with a corolla but just make sure you get a warranty.

my sister and mother in law both have them, ones a 2000 ones a 2002, ones a auto and ones a stick. They are confortable cars, decent on gas ( thiers are both wagons, so it changes it slightly) and they are the LEAST stolen cars in Canada. I personally dont mind them, 10 g is a bit mich though id offer 8 500...and if they wont take it, go to 9. but a dealer who volunteers a 3000 price drop means either they are trying to make u feel like they are doing you a HUGE favor, and then they get the sale, or somethings wrong with the car.

Make sure u get a Carfax VIN search done. I do it on anycar i or anyone in my family buys. Reason for this is because my mother in law got her focus, it was branded as salvage, meaning written off. And the dealer she bought it from " fixed it" which is illegal here and sold it. Needless to say we found out, and he lost his dealer licence. And she got all her money back and got to keep the car. I dont know how stuff like that works in the US... but I know dealers here can get in ALOT of trouble for doing such things.

So my 2 rules of buying a car are, #1. go to a dealer u can trust. Ask people who have a sticker, licence plate holder anything that says such and such on thier car how they were to deal with.
Most ppl might think u nuts for doing this but then they find out what u want and 90% are like ohhh ok, yeah they were great, no problems at all. OR HEEEEECKKK no, *(&*^&%^^%%ing )*(*^&*^%^%$$%'s to deal with etc etc. Good for you to know.
And rule #2. ALWAYS get a carfax, if the dealer wont do it for you, u do it. It isnt that expensive, and well it could save you thousands later on.
and thats what its all about right.

I am turning my 2003 2 door in today (lease is up). I thought this was a GREAT car. Good gas mileage, peppy, and handles quite well. I had no problems with mine.

wow, there's some good info here. much appreciated....

i went and looked at the car today and I was really impressed at how clean it was. the mileage on the car was actually 16K instead of 19K which of course is an added benefit. the reason he's had the car for so long is because its yellow in color which obviously isnt a popular color.

but yellow so happens to be my favorite color so its all for the best.

well, you know what they say. only special bus ride the short buses.

seriously, yellow has always been my favorite color so I think I'm going to go with it. now all I need is a good place to shop for some decent tires and wheels. the car has stock wheels with the standard wheel covers which arent going to be on there too long.

any suggestions on some online places I can look?

thanks for the link. I ordered a set of these wheels and a set of these tires which I think are going to be quite nice. I cannot believe how fast these people are when it comes to shipping orders out. I placed my order at like 2:00pm EDT today and I just received a tracking number for my order. damn! thats what I call fast.

now, can any one suggest something in the way of some decent, free-flowing exhaust for my car? the problem is that I dont want it to be too loud and I damn sure dont want it to sound like one of the obnoxious ricer cars that litterally sound like a jiffy time popcorn maker on steroids.

any suggestions?
