Hello,

I am a Telus customer planning to buy a new GSM phone and switching to Rogers. I was very much taken by the Samsung P300 and the Sony Ericsson K800i, but unfortunately, they lack 850 MHz which would pose some problems for me as I will often be using my phone inside buildings and undergrounds.

I've been considering the Samsung D600 and Motorola A1200, but I'd really like to have something a little smaller in size. Also, it would be just perfect if it had EDGE, and even better if it had 3G (I realize it doesn't work on Rogers, but I'd nonetheless like to have it). Battery life is another crucial element here; 7 hours talktime would be dandy. I'm willing to go a bit lower, but 3 hours is the most minimum I'll consider.

I don't really care for MP3 players, though it would be nice to have one. Radio would also be a pleasant addition. I do need a decently functioning camera, preferably 2MP+, but it's not an absolute necessity for it to be 2MP+. I don't particularly care for smartphones, so whether it is one or not is irrelevant. I do need a good voice recording capability with a decent to excellent quality, and if it happens to have a document viewer, that would be positively wonderful. Expandable memory would also be preferred. I'd rather it be miniSD or some other common method, but I wouldn't mind terribly if it wasn't. Bluetooth and IR are preferable, as would USB connection; I will need at least one of the three.

Note: I need the new phone to be available for purchase from EasyCell or some other individual/corporate sellers (located in the GTA) advertised on HoFo. Importing is an option I'd rather avoid, as I do not really trust the post.

nokia 6131, small flip phone. battery life and camera might be a bit weak inthat department.

Hmm, the D807 seems interesting; when would you approximate it to be released in Canada? I'll need the phone before September of 2006...

How would you say the Nokia 6131 compares to the Nokia 6265i from Telus? If there isn't much difference between the two, then I don't think there's a need for me to switch providers.

I gather there isn't a quadband out there with 3G capability?

Also, how do the two compare to the D600 and the A1200?

Is this an official Rogers phone (ie. sold at Rogers branches)? How would you say it compares to the likes of D600 and A1200?

It doesn't matter whether it's an official Rogers phone or not as long as it meets the requirements.

I can get it to work on Rogers as long as it's an unlocked GSM compatible with the frequencies (850/1900), correct?

Just thought I'd let everyone know, I settled on either D600 or D900. I'll probably go for the D900, but if I can't find one by September, I'll have to settle for the former.
