gd87 Infrared problem - PLEASE HELP

Hi there,

I have just purchased a gd87 on orange and am trying to transfer pics to my pc and ringtones to my handset from the pc but it doesnt seem to be working either way. It connects to the PC ok and it recognises the gd87 modem over infrared fine. But when i try and send stuff, i get a message on the phone screen saying "Transmission Failed" and one on the computer saying that the device is out of range - even though i havent touched it.

Orange referred me to panasomic's customer service helpline but that is closed and i have heard they are rubbish anyway.. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and, if so, knows how to get over it.

Please help me if you can.
I can be emailed at phil@philliplavelle.info.

Thanks in advance.
Phill

I have heard of people having problems with Windows ME and XP and also compaq computers. I have a toshiba tecra running xp and have no problems.
Solutions I have heard are updating the drivers for your computers IrDA port and slowing the baud rate down to either 56K or 19.2K. Hope it helps.

i have a Compaq Presario 1500 with WinXP, and no problems at all sending and recieving files to/from my little GD87... and with the default settings for the IrDA port on my computer.

Trying lowering the spped of the IR unit. I have had similar probs. (also GD87 on Orange) when transferring pics. from phone to PC.

Thanks very much. I have tried doing that and it does work now. It is not the best IR connection I have ever had compared to my excellent T68i and Nokia 7650, but it is acceptable.

But now, I am having difficulty transferring WAV ring tones onto the phone. I have been downloading WAVs and then converting them into MFM files using Lou's programme which I downloaded from this site.

But, when I took a 15 second wav, converted it into MFM and changed it to the mono size I am told to do, it wouldnt even transfer. I did the same with a 10 second wav file but that transferred but only played the first second. Is there a limit on the size of the file the phone will play and how do I check them?

Still, regardless of this problem, I am totally chuffed with my gd87. It is probably the nicest phone I have ever had. BTW, anyone want to buy a T68i - it is only about two weeks old but I have no need for it now I am using my gd87. I am thinking of selling it for £140.

I also wouldnt mind knowing how i can convert files to be displayed on screen. I imagine I would just transfer a JPEG from my PC via IR link but what resolution size would I need to alter it with on Photoshop?

Also, are Samsung T100 ringtones compatible? If so, anybody got the Carmen vk42 one I can use on my Panasonic GD87?

Let me know through here or by email: phil@philliplavelle.info.

Many Thanks in advance everyone!!!
