LG KG800 help

I have an unlocked KG800 that i use with my Cingular SIM card, however T-mobile has better 1900 MHz GSM coverage in my area and I would like to use their towers. My plan incurs no GSM roaming charges, however when i try to manual connect to the T-Mobile network it gives me a "Network is not available" message, even though it locates the network when it searches, and I've used T-mobile SIMs in my phone to verify the coverage. Any ideas? Is T-mobile just not allowing my Cingular SIM to connect or is it something else??
