NEC Help Please!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have brought a NEC N412i (also known as a NEC L1)
Good phone, except I have a few problems:

1) It has a MP3 Player, but the phone doesnt play mp3's as ringtones, is there a work around

2) How can I install Java games on this phone? preferably by data cable as I cannot use WAP.

3) How can I use a 3gp video that wasnt recorded on my phone, or brought?

At the moment, problem 2 is the most important to me to get fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if you have an N412i, because of i-mode, the java is HEAVILY restricted. basically, the bottom line is, you can only get the games off i-mode.

mp3 ringtones = not possible.

question number 3 is easy though. send it through the NEC mobile suite software, or via bluetooth from your pc/another fone.

With number 3, how can I use a video that i didnt make on phone, or buy, as a video ringtone? I sent the 3gp to my fone and it plays fine, I just cant set it as a video ringtone, unlike 3gp files I recorded with my phone.

Posted by: scotttttttttt

You can't see the Download directory when you go to set the ringtone? That's odd.. I can see it fine on mine.

Posted by: shadowfax1007

If I add a 3gp file to my phone using the NEC PC suite, I can see the video, and play it fine, but when I go to Menu > Use: the set as ringtone option is greyed out.

any ideas?

Try going into Profiles, editing a profile, then pick Ringer, then Video, then Download directory.

What does all this mean "Profiles." I've got the same phone, and same problem, and I have no idea what this is, let alone trying to implement it.

Also, when you managed to get the 3gp file onto your phone, did you have to make the audio AAC 96 (or below) and sample rate '16000' or did you manage some other way, because it took me a long time to do.

If you did manage some other way, what quality audio have you got?

Oh, and about the Java games, i'm attempting to find an alternative application for transfering games via cable as well, starting with Java Apps, and Net beans software, no idea if it will work, (i'm not experienced or anything) but if I find something (anything) that works I'll post it. I'm surprised to hear that atleast someone can get downloaded (off PC) video files to work as ringtones, I can't.

Java games don't work because the phone only runs DoJa Java (ie i-mode-specific apps), not MIDP ones.

hi ther you are using nec 412i , could you help me how can i configure n900ig for gprs/mms,there is no direct link in my phone t0 configure it manually, i need to open its apn menu by some mysterious code *#.....# could u help ?

Posted by: AL9999

The N900iG doesn't support MMS because it's a DoCoMo i-mode phone. You can't manually modify GPRS settings either.

Is there any other format for the ringtone besides midi and mp3 that the phone will recognize?

Posted by: doyler06

Can someone please tell me how to get MP3s onto this phone? I cannot access any music through the NEC software. I presume the format of the MP3's I have on my PC are different from that required for the NEC software because even though the music is there, once I navigate to the folder using the software there's nothing visible. I can connect to the phone and engage the data transfer and it appears to work fine, with no error messages but nothing gets transferred, even though it says "transfer complete". Any ideas? I've had this phone for nearly a year and haven't figured it out yet

Posted by: altima1994

I don't have the software and the cable, mine is e949 model, doesn't come with the data transfer and any software. But I did transfer mp3 just fine via bluetooth. After each transfer you do have to confirm that you want to save the file though (kind of annoying everytime you finish the transfer, you have to press the button to confirm that you want to save it), that's probably you didn't do it. The only thing that sucks is I can't use MP3 for SMS, only for main ringtone.

Try short files (under 1MB, 300k, 100k) and CBR mp3 only. All NEC 3G phones I had, had locks to play only drm mp3 ringtones downloaded from inet.

You can`t unless you change fw to L1 fw. N412i uses DoJa, DoCoMo version of Java, not compatible with MIDP2. Even with L1 fw you will still have to download apps through internet (like in most japanese phones...).

It`s gsm i-mode phone so video is probably restricted to 176x144 h.263 encoded (maybe h.264 too) video with amr-nb audio. Check details of your videos in Quick Time Player - info option.

Posted by: altima1994

Is L1 firmware available for download? PM me if you know. Thanks.

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

No idea

Posted by: altima1994

How do I install jar files? It doesn't recognize the format when I send it via bluetooth. Thanks.
