Is there a program to overclock the qtek 8500? Does omapclock work for this model or just pocket pc's?

Oddly enough, the OMAPCLOCK program was originally written for the Smartphone, and it happens to work on ppc's.

So yes, it should work.

Unfortunately there is no handy utility that will ensure that omapclock sets your clock speed every time you wake your phone up. Without this you have to do it manually every time your phone goes to sleep.

I get an error when running it. No issue on other WM5 Smartphones, but not this one. Anyone else have different luck?

I got an error as well...DARN. Maybe when there is a version 0.3 it will work

I alos got the same error!!!!

I am using OMAP Clock on Qtek 8500 with success. However, I am using it with Tornado Power Control program. With this program, you can set 3 different clock speeds. When you "wake" the phone, when backlight turns off and when phone goes in "sleep" mode. I don't have a link right now but go to Modaco.com and do a search on Tornado Power Control. Good Luck.

how did you install .net 2.0? I keep getting en error that there isnt enough space

Actually I got the overclock to work. First you have to unlock the phone using the HTC unlock HTCUnlock-CVS. Then reboot. Then use the SDA unlock SDA_ApplicationUnlock to remove the security feature. Reboot. Then run overclock...

I hope this isn't too much of a noob question...but what is the benefit of overclocking the Qtek 8500?

I installed it on the memory card. You should NOT be installing it in the main memory as the file is very big. Did you get the cab file? If you still have trouble with installing .net 2.0. You can still use the program, just download the previous version 1.4 (I think) which uses net 1.o which is already pre-installed on WM5. Hope this helps.

Certain programs such as Skype, Core media player works better with overclocking. You will also notice programs loading/closing quicker and little bit faster internet downloads. Other than that, there are no significant benefits. I like the little extra speed, so I overclock the processor (have been doing for the last 4-5 yrs on 5-6 different SP and PPC ) If you are happy with the speed of your device then there is no need to overclock. Also keep in mind, overclocking beyond a certain point can fry the phone. Although I never had any overclocking related issues but I have heard people destroying their SP/PPC with improper overclocking.

You need to HTC unlock HTCUnlock-CVS. Then reboot. Then use the SDA unlock SDA_ApplicationUnlock. You should install on your internal memory not your SD card

I would say 240 MAX just to be on the safe side.

For you guys that have played with the OC - how has your battery life been affected? Have you seen a noticeable drop?

Posted by: dicin

Has anyone used 240 on the OC?

Posted by: IPahwa

I have set up OC for 240 when Active and default 180 when backlight is off. I have not noticed any significant difference in the battery life. There is a very long thread regarding this program on Modaco forum. Just do a search there. People have overclocked to 264 and underclocked to 116 (to extend battery life). You can always set up Tornado Power control for automatic setting which sets the clock speed according to the CPU load.
