ok, so i am going to upgrade my aging and rattling smt5600. i am currently with cingular. i found an sda, brand new at a store for an ok price. i will be getting the sda and unlocking it and using my old ATTWS sim card in it. i will then change the gprs and data settings according to the hofo faq and bengalboy and the settings on the cingular website. will there be anything else i need to be aware of to ensure functionality? how about a new or different rom? any ideas or suggestions? i have a 2 gig minisd card already so i will be using that with the phone.

additionally: is there a way to remap the music keys on the sda. so that one links to agile messenge for instance, and another opens up tcmp? i would think there would be a registry edit that allows for custom mapping of these keys. anyone?

nope, just put in your SIM change the settings and go... simple as that

I have an Imate SP5 with Cingular and all I had to do is to put in my Cingular SIM card and program the data settings and it has been working just fine.

I think I have seen some postings regarding remapping the keys of the Imate SP5M (same as SDA) in the HoFo...do a search and see what you find.

I have a T-Mobile SDA, and recently switched over to Cingular. You can/should do one of two things:

1. Install the Qtek 8300 rom
2. Install the Cingular 2125 rom and registry edit to get wifi

This is the tutorial I used: http://tech.bryandavis.net/

I currently have the Qtek rom installed with Cingular settings and everything is working great. Make sure to SIM and Application unlock your phone.

What's wrong with just installing the latest Cingular ROM?

The Qtek rom has wifi and push email enabled while the cingular 2125 rom does not.

I'm a Cingular Blue customer and here's the solution I used:

1. Bought T-Mobile SDA
2. Unlocked it (both SIM and application).
3. Downloaded Cingular ROM (and Clearview while you're there)
4. Installed Registry Editor
5. Added Wifi (thanks Swivel):
a. Run regeditSTG
b. Navigate to HK Local Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager
c. Change the "SupportedFunctions" DWORD "Value data" to 7.
d. Add an additional directory/folder and name it "6". (A simple way to do this is to copy and paste another dierctory and just change the values).
e. Within the directory, change the default string value to: "WLAN" without the quotes.
f. Restart your device and WiFi should be back in your CommManager application.

6. Installed TCPMP.
7. Mapped the music keys by installing TCPMP Hot Keys (Device or SD) from this site.
8. Remapped the "t-zones" key to IE with MSN & IE Key from same site in #7.
9. Set up Cingular* Internet Settings and MMS Settings. *For Blue settings (which I used), see HERE.
10. Sat back and enjoyed my fully featured Cingular Blue SDA with Wifi!

It took me quite a while to figure this all out, so hopefully I'm able to save some of my fellow geeks a little time. Here are 2 more links that you might want to check out:

Thank you for putting all that in one place!!!

When I go to install the Cingular update on the SDA, it tells me it cannot be used on that handheld. Is the newest Cingular update not working anymore for the SDA?

yea, updater says the vender ID is incorrect

SDA FAQ
2125 Tips

OK, I got got the QTEK rom running on my new SDA, but then I wanted to try the Cingular rom. So I successfully installed the Cingular rom, but now I'm having trouble with my wifi (which was actually working perfectly on QTEK). It shows that I have wifi in my comm manager, but then I'm not able to view any web pages on wifi. It keeps saying: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."

So now I either need advice on how to salvage the wifi with the Cingular rom, or I have to switch back to the QTEK rom. As for the latter possibility, do I have to do anything special to switch from the Cingular rom to the QTEK? I successfully followed the instructions from the webpage http://tech.bryandavis.net. However, that was switching an SDA rom to QTEK. Is there a thread on this board that tells you how to switch from the 2125 rom to QTEK? I'm searching for it now and haven't found it yet. The registry is different. His instructions no longer seem to apply.

Thanks.

Yikes, I must have really messed something up. So I got impatient and switched back to the QTEK rom without making any other adjustments. That may have been foolish, but I did it. Anyway, at that point I couldn't get wifi to work well either. I wonder if some of the settings I used with the regedit tool when switching to the Cingular rom screwed things up. Anyway, I tried to put the regedit program back in the temp folder on activesync, and now I am not able to. I get this message:

Cannot copy regeditSTG: Access is denied.

Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and taht you have permission to copy this file.

...

Well, I was able to copy it earlier today.

Have I screwed up this phone beyond fixing? I just want wifi again!!!

and I still just want my cingular rom to work! is there an older one that wont see the vender ID is incorrect, or perhapse a 'alterd' rom?
