chinese characters CDMA blackberry

i searched for all references to "chinese" since I last had a BlackBerry, but got no returns, hope this is still breakthrough.

getting chinese on a GSM blackberry is easy, simply install BlackBerry OS from CSL. since there are no blackberry-offering CDMA providers in chinese-speaking countries, it's a little difficult to do the same on a CDMA blackberry.
I recently re-acquired a CDMA BlackBerry, but needed the added convenience of chinese. A very simple process allowed me to install the Chinese resource files from BlackBerry OS onto a CDMA Blackberry.

the process is quite simple. requires the Loader files for BlackBerry OS from CSL as well as the CDMA BlackBerry OS of your choice, copy the JAVA directory from the CSL installation to the CDMA one. re-install the Loader files with the InstallShield Wizard Repair Option, then install onto the BlackBerry, after deleting vendor.xml. Also can delete the unnecessary files, like gprs_help.

for some reason jyutping input method doesn't work, and there's no proper traditional chinese menu language option, just that simplified garbage.

I don't have BlackBerry service, so I'm not sure if E-mails or any other Internet Service works, though the font is installed. but the unit itself does have basic display and input. though I believe that requires the server to support the language code.

I'd like to try to get Korean in too, but have no idea where to get the BlackBerry OS for KT PowerTel's 7100i, or if it'd even work since that's a SureType phone.

this technique should work for other BlackBerries of like models.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia E61: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

Great info. Where did you get the CSL loader file so i can try it out on my 7130?

the 7130g was just released on CSL. let me know how it goes. this should go without saying but, backing up any personal data would be a good idea, in case you end up with the Java Virtual Machine error.

but in the process of checking, i noticed the handheld software for the 7100 and the 7290 were removed, likely from discontinuation.

can you only type in traditional or can you also type and read simplified?

also i heard that installing the chinese support takes up additional memory, about how much more?

simplified display and input is included as well. i cannot vouch if it works or not, i omitted from installing it.

yes chinese support does take up additional memory, as it installs like any other blackberry application. the amount of extra memory required depends on the amount number of input methods you choose to install. the number of traditional chinese-related modules i installed took about 1.5MB, the largest being the fontset at ~700KB I offset a portion of that however, by removing the other languages aside from english.

you need to have a Chinese OS for 8100 (i believe it is 4.2). However, i am not sure if Asia (HK especially) has the 8100 yet.
