the n93 is already available in the market.
k800 is out too.
motorola has just announced some handsets with hsdpa capability.

i've been thinking when would sharp release their new handsets that will own every handsets out there. i always believe that sharp has the capability to produce mobile phones, i mean a real high end phone for they have already proved it for their previous handsets. yes the 904 is out but still locked. personally, im waiting for sharp to release an hsdpa phone as well since that technology is already accesible in my place. hopefully they will release an hsdpa phone with the vga screen as the standard for every 90xsh series. man!! that will own any handsets out there if sharp makes vga screen as their standard. and also, i hope that if my dream sharp phones comes out, it will be unlockable...=P

the 903sh is like an year old and it's camera and it's styling are both up to date.

look at the k800i...the pictures don't compare to the 903sh

and the n93...i think more people find the 903sh more attractive

in my opinion, what sharp really needs to do is stick 850 on their phones =)

yeah, sharp is far ahead... only 1 year later do "the other guys" catch up. the n93 will have typical nokia quirks I am sure. while it's a nice phone, it still looks "nokia".

Posted by: shungo

ya sharp's design and technology is way ahead.
but one thing, it takes ages to unlock sometimes.....lol...

Posted by: sketch143

that's coz it was never really meant for the western market.. it was meant to say within asia at most..

Posted by: Eyies

Just need a small update.. kinda disappointed the 904 didn't include a real flash for the camera.. other than that, some more UI tweaks would be nice, A2DP profile would be winnerrrr. Not really too much to complain about.

903 Still lives haha. =D

yea true, even with the current 3.2MP cam from Nokia or SE, surprising Sharp903 is still a top notch 3.2MP cam quality... considering the OS kinda suck for the 903, im more of into camera guy... so 903 is still ma top choice..

Sadly Sharp latest phones 904 n 905 they moved from camera improvements to other features like screen quality, tv signals, movement sensors etc... so lets hope they are focusing on camera now.. and LG has already a 5MP coming out end of this year.. i read wth 4X optical zoom... so far my next phone on ma list will be Nokia N93.

Well if you think about it... Other companies are good at marketing and planning. I'm sure they could have rolled out a 3.2mp camera phone same time as the 903 but chose not to. They decided to move a bit slower in order to make money off the market. After playing with the K800, it seems the camera is pretty good but the long focusing time kinda turns me off. If the 903 had a xenon flash and there weren't limitations to their firmware it'd prob be the perfect phone.

ya this is very true. nokia's market penetration blows sharp out of the water, so they can take their time all they want.

i wonder what the power requirements are between xenon and whatever the sharp is using. that would be sweet to just open it up and swap the led's and just see what happens. haha.

my sharp's light is somewhat greenish.

You can't really compare the likes of Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola with Sharp. Sharp's target market is primarily the Japanese population. It is an after thought that their phones will be released to other markets. Sharp phones will be designed to complement the Japanese cell phone infrastructure, not a foreign one. Maybe the management of Sharp will one day realize the popularity their phones can have abroad, but until then, don't expect them to be designing products to be competing against the big 3 cell phone manufacturers.

prob not....
the japanese always like to keep their best stuff at home...
it's like exclusive japanese pride or something...
it's ok... the world knows in most cases that they make top notch stuff

side note:
imagine sharp putting out a phone with VGA screen with 703sh pricing... one day...

Bein that said, Sharp phones in the Jap Market is something like Nokia or SE in the rest of the world. they are the bigger playa there... other than Docomo, SE, Nokia or Au brands out there... well juz think of it as we own exotic phones.. it made me feel special... hehe..

actually i agree that the sharp is more advanced ....

i dont really care about marketing or what will happen or what the others "can" or "cant" do .....

sharp 903 is one of the most advanced toys till now and still on the top when u are talking about camera\display\build quality

what i really want to see and its been like a daydream is the 903 with windows mobile 5.0 system

that would be a travesty. talk about a way to ruin a perfectly good phone... i think i would rather not have a phone at all than use windows mobile again

windows 5.0 ain't that bad its pretty slick compared to the older versions..

Vodafone Group insiders keep saying that Sharp is at work on something really cool, but won't provide any more details than that. Their posts are in the MR forums Sharp section and Whatmobile Other Manufacturers section.

I don't like just writing such claims, but it does seem they're at work on something good. Guess we'll see what happens...

Posted by: SpecC

lol dude comparing with other companies is sharp really that lack in Technology? I am still enjoying the 903 with a "CCD" camera. what else you want to wish for. It's a pretty perfect machine already.

Posted by: Timsta

the 903 isn't high end enough for some i supppose.. but its way ahead of its class... imo.. until now

Posted by: borgis

well, sharp being one of phone manufacturers that can produce phones that incorporates "world's first" features, that makes their phones high end with an edge over other phones.

Posted by: Shion Uzuki

Well... vodafone k.k.'s phones are sub-par comparing to docomo and kddi's offerings.

One thing that we're forgetting here is Sharp also makes fones for DoCoMo and KDDI...

However, I don't see the point of Sharp HSDPA headsets because well... there's no HSDPA in Japan till end of year, at least that's what I'd imagine.

For once HK is faster than Japan lol...

Posted by: AL9999

Are they really? The Sharp phones for DoCoMo never had optical zoom in their cameras, whereas both 902SH and 903SH did. Only very recently did DoCoMo Sharps get music players (and they still only play SD-Audio); Voda Sharps have had them since the J-SH53 (and they play normal AAC files since the 903SH). Voda 3G Sharps all have Bluetooth; DoCoMo ones still don't. Sharp phones for DoCoMo emphasise design, user interface and gimmicky features much more than the Vodafone ones, which have more practical features.

I personally prefer a phone with more practical features than gimmicks, and I found the Voda Sharps were better there than the DoCoMo ones in this regard. The SH902iS doesn't even have a swivel screen anymore.

Posted by: kurisu

If only the 903 had some kind of "hidden" external oled display I'd be sold in a heartbeat! I'm a sucker for oled displays.

Posted by: Kevbodian

HK faster than japan.. ha!

clearly the need for hsdpa is not seen as great as other nations because they have been operating on 3G networks for 5 years now. whereas all of us have been left to deal with 2.5G for the last 5 years, hsdpa is a reasonable next step.

HSDPA Japan will be true 3.5G whereas HSDPA north america will be more like 3G in terms of implementation.

Posted by: AL9999

I still don't see the need for it in phones. Apart from better quality video streaming over 3G why would you need it? Faster downloads? What do you download to a phone?

At least HSUPA will make video call quality much better...

Posted by: Shion Uzuki

UMTS/HSDPA is supposed to last up till 2012+, at least for Asia. Eventually (maybe in about 20 years), I can see these download speed ulterized for mobile computing. We've seen convergence between PDA and cell phone, and I think the industry will still head in that direction. Maybe someday we'll get a true PC on your hand. They do have to figure out how to make a form factor for that the that is both portable and usable though.

That would definitely happen. If we think 20 years back, PDA didn't exist. 10 years back. We were all using our phone just for talking. Right now, we're starting to us our phone as an MP3 player. Who knows what will happen 10 years in the future?

Posted by: AL9999

Umm with mobile computing you've already got laptops coming from Dell and other manufacturers that have HSDPA support built in, so it's not going to take 20 years to get fast wireless broadband on a laptop.

Posted by: Timsta

hahaa... well.... it takes 20 years for canada to get anything.
