V3c BitPim Ringtone problem, Sorry...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Cell_Novitiate

for yet another post... Ive searched these forums high and low, and I just cant seem to find a definative answer.

I search for V3c bitpim, and all I find are threads with people linking to sites that dont address my problem, or what is even worse, people talking about the exact same issue I am having, but no one addresses this specific matter.

1:37:24.035 Moto-V3c: Getting file contents 'motorola/shared/audio/RAZR V3c.mp3'
1:37:24.035 Moto-V3c: Failed to read media file: RAZR V3c.mp3

I'm sure many of you have seen that before... but it's all I can see, and I'm instantly sick to death at the sight of those lines

I've checked the BitPim help (no help there)
HoFo (Some help, but still not enough)
Mark venture (all it said was that the steps given may not work on v3c)

In summary:

Bitpim 9.05
V3c .04 (Telus)
Have the drivers installed, so bitpim does work (obviously)
Hopelessly stuck.

Assistance will be greatly appreciated

Edit: Forgot to mention, I got as far as creating a placeholder ringtone... I think it cost me $0.50 to do it though :\ (that damned "email your ringtone" apparently does not work with telus... not to mention it's a pretty lousy way to transfer data.

yeah, well, Mark Venture's pages are not a Full/Comprehensive how to use, how to trouble shoot and fix every error/problem under the sun... its just a "basic" listing of what can be done, and how it worked FOR ME, with MY PHONE....

Question... WHEN do you get that message?

When you try to read data from the phone? While using the "RING TONE" Tab? While using the file system tab? while trying to WRITE data to the phone? what??

I for one did NOT see that message before, but then again, NONE of my ring tones have a SPACE in the name...

And other than trying it to work on the write up for my pages... I really don't make use of BitPim... I use MPT, or Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers to ADD/Delete ring tones...

BitPim's native Motorola support was just added a few months ago at most... so its probably has some more bugs to work out...

When I try to "get phone data / ringtones", I get that message in the log.

Using the file system tab I am able to see all the included tones in the motorola/shared/audio folder, but I get the system locked pop up when i try to add/overwrite.

I don't think the space is an issue, there are other single word ringtones included, and they are not read either.

Is there a freeware alternative to MPT? I've seen summaries of other programs and mention of seem edits, but I dont think I want to go that far just yet.

Anyone having similar problems with BitPim?

Mark Venture page's are very useful, I’m just got the new razor silver V3M and a friend of mine told me about this site. After reading a couple of forums I got to Mark’s pages.
After only 36hrs reading about the V3M, my phone already got my ringers and pics.

Thanks Mark.

Did you need to do seem edits? I didn't think i would need to mess with that in order to upload a ringtone... Bloody motorola making things difficult.

Ran into a wall... Can't find pst 7.2.3 - bittorrent is non existant. Anyone have a link or could send it to me? Send me a PM please

In a word google it. only way your gonna find it

Posted by: Cell_Novitiate

Yeah it's basically imposible to get... No one will host it or seed it. However, thanks MUCH to mark venture - read his guies a bit more and got the MSU instead of PST and it works with p2k perfectly... I was able to put Vigilante - Answers (the first metal bit) as my ringtone.

Now I just have to dig a little deeper and make it so my phone rings longer before going to voicemail.

THANKS Mark Venture!

to get your phone to ring longer, call 611 and tell them you need to have your ringer time increased. When a phone is activated it defaults to 30, but they can lengthen it to up too a min, in 5 sec increments. just tell them your a roof and it takes you longer than 30 sec to get off the top of the house and down to the phone in your truck, works like a charm

thanks for the tip!

Well I just tried that, and the guy said he can't change it :\

I played with it a bit and it's not until the second ring that my phone actually begins ringing, after the 4th ring it goes to voicemail.

I'll try emailing the telus, maybe that will work better.

talk to a supervisor in tech support, they can change it it is a setting in the switch.

I'll give that a shot, thanks.
