I have done a few things to put my Treo through a "cleaning process" and now reboots are a rare experience. So for the benefit of others with a Treo (and other Palm devices) here are my tips: 1. Move all 3rd party apps to an SD card. You can always remove the SD if a program on it is crashing your Palm/Treo. Some 3rd party programs won't run from an SD card (like VolumeCare and Verichat). If you have more than 1 program like this, remove them all, install one and use it for a day or two and once you are sure it is stable, install the next program and so on. 2. Customize your ROM and remove any programs that you don't need. ( I will post links for newbies on how to do this later). In my case I removed a lot of apps that I never use (Quick Tour, Welcome, Sim Services, Bluetooth) and programs that I have found better alternatives for (Real Player -> Pocket Tunes, Versamail -> Snappermail). Also, I removed a lot of foreign language files. You can add certain programs into the ROM but I didn't do that. Lastly, I replaced a special file on the ROM relating to the FAT file system (fatfs.prc) with an updated version (fat32.prc). This doesn't make your Treo more stable but it allows you to use SD cards that are larger than 2 GB which means more space to hold programs. I will add a step by step tutorial on ROM customizing. 3. Always install new programs to your SD instead of the internal memory. NOTE: HowardForums Admins, please make this thread sticky. (This entire post was written on my Treo 650) ![]() |

in sort the answer is yes and no. I asked someone who is a lot more familiar with rom customizing than me. He explained that although the process should probably be the same, the rom tool that i mentioned in my tutorial will not work with the 700p because of all kinds of changes to the 700p. He said that someone was working on a rom tool that will work with the 700p. I'll let you know if I hear anything else in the future. JD |

ok before you customize your ROM do this: 1. Perform a a hotsync 2. Make a copy of your profile folder (Usually in C:\Program Files\palmOne\Yourhotsyncname) to some other safe location as a back. Optional but highly recommended. 3. Perform a hard reset as listen on http://mytreo.net/treofaq/Treo650Resetting 4. Customize your ROM as per my instructions 5. Before you do hotsync again right click on the hotsync icon in the system tray and choose custom 6. Do this for calendar, memos, contacts, and to do list: Double click on the name in the list (ex. calendar) click on the radio button "Desktop overwrites handheld" 7. Perform a hotsync |

1. Remove all 3rd party apps from the ROM if there are any. 2. Reflash your firmware with the standard firmware from http://www.palm.com/us/support/down...treo650updater/ and see if that helps. |

). I asked one of their techs if he knew what updating the ROM was and asked him if I did it would they notice and be pissed and think it was my fault that the phone broke later on, on something unrelated.|

I've kept mine for much longer than I ever thought because of them. If you have a chance, go to treocentral and give them a thanks if you like the program. mmastrac is also the owner of the grack site. you can thank him there too. No connections to him, just want to make sure his hard work is recognized as well...
