I know the v3m is new and not many people have messed with it yet. but I was wondering if anyone thinks it might be possible to get rid of the v cast music player and replace it with itunes or some other music player.

how do you guys play mp3's on your v3m?

Posted by: xx69xx

well the easiest way is convert your mp3s to wma and have them played with vcast.

No sorry man, you can't have iTunes on a V3M

Posted by: crick

why not. the vcast music thing is slow and stupid.

itunes is java..and the v3m(verizon) uses brew

You can't have iTunes on Verizon.

I do not subscribe to VCAST, and have found that you can use many different tools to load .MP3s to a Verizon V3M. I've initially used the Verizon Music Essentials kit, uninstalled it, and have since moved onto BITPIM, Motorola Phone Tools, and at times just Windows Media Player transfer. All of my .MP3s are loaded onto a 1GB mini SD that I got on sale for under 40 dollars. The Verizon Forum on this site has all the details. Hope this helps.

yeah i already ordered a 1gb micro SD card. are there any music management programs written for BREW (binary runtime environment)? can java programs be ported for BREW? from what you guys are saying, the answer is probably no. but when it gets down to it, these phones are just small computers.

What if you flashed to the alltel firmware, you might get itunes (if my understanding is correct that the alltel firmware uses java), but you'll lose the TF slot (if they have not fixed that yet)

it's more of a 50/50 thing.

The ALLTEL firmware uses BREW.

Is there any way to get java on the V3m? Any other carriers that support java?

why don't we just make our own mp3 jukebox for brew.

Why wouldn't alltel bring out a iTunes phone like the V3i coming out for cingular. I can understand verizon not doing it since they made their own stupid music store. If I were alltel I would let users download the iTunes app on their brew download service and charge maybe $20 for it. That's $20 more than verizon is going to get from me, and if alltel did bring out an iTunes phone I would switch. It's all about convergence...

Are you going to spring for the cost of it??

cost of what?

I had never even heard of BREW or knew what it was until a few weeks ago. i've always just used whatever phone i could get the cheapest and therefore never looked at it's programming.

you have far more knowledge than i do on these phones, i found your website very helpful in learning about seem edits and how to perform them.

i have installed the BREW SDK and once classes start back here in the next week or so i'll sit down and try to learn just how this BREW does it's magic.

edit:
the sdk comes with a sample application "media player" that plays mp3's.

If I'm not mistaken... all brew apps MUST be digitally signed, and for this, Qualcom charges a fee...

Posted by: crick

i registered at http://brewforums.qualcomm.com and am trying to get more information on that.

do you think that is required of all applications, or just applications that one plans on distributing and/or selling?

keep in mind that i have spend all of 10 minutes in researching this so far, but it appears that it might be possible to sign an application as "test" and then enable test mode on the phone? I could be wrong.

You should write a letter to Alltel then.

i have a 2 gig card, will the v3m be able to recognize all of the 2 gigs of external memory if its fully loaded with songs? i also have a sam 950 (the mp3 one not the vcast one) and it shows the songs after 1 gig but will not play them on that phone but it will freeze it up and turn it off and then on again, im thinking that the 950 can only recognize and play up to 1 gig and was wondering of the v3m was the same way.
