MPT won't transfer MP3's

Any attempt I make to transfer an mp3 from Melody Studio fails-message is "unsupported format-MP3 codec inappropriate or missing". Doing it as a file transfer appears to work, but nothing can be found on the phone.

Latest version of MPT, phone is a V3m (Verizon) seem edited-photos transfer fine etc.

Ideas?

Edit-ok, doing it as a straight file transfer, I can find the mp3 using MPT (it finds it on the phone) but I can't find it or use it as a ringtone.

i think verizon blocked it. im not sure how/if you can get around it as i dont have a v3m but if you search around there is talk about it.

I think you can still transfer ringtones/photos with bluetooth by using the software that comes with bluetooth dongles for free.

You have to seem edit the phone to enable transfer. That's done.

As a workaround, I've been able to use the editor in MPT to save the segment of music to the computer, then use a standalone MP3 converter to convert the segment to mp3, then use the file transfer to transfer the music to the ringtone folder. That works, but is awkward.
