i860 Blue Screen Of Death

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello all,

My friend has a nextel i860 and he gave it to me to repair for him. The problem with the phone is that it will not power on. When I goto power it on, it says i860, and then a blue screen comes up and stays on for about 30 seconds, and then the phone turns off. It does this with or without the sim card inserted, and I have tried a different sim card. If anyone could elp me resolve this issue, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Funny, but that whole post applies here (although no one got around to asking and answering software specific questions before I moved it)..... Anyways, try what YoDude suggests with upgrading the phone software. If that doesn't work, then I'm affraid the phone is pretty much just junk.....

The blue screen sympton sounds very conducive to liquid or physical damage to the phone. Try powering on the phone with both soft buttons held down. Do you get a message that says "ready to flash" or the like? If you do get that you might be able to upgrade the software using the utility from moto.

The phone definatelly wasnt water damaged. It is in beautiful condition, and the person who owns it would never let somethign like that happen. BTW, what do you mean with both soft buttons pressed down. Im confused. This heat is getting the best of me

The two buttons who's functions change depending on whats displayed on the screen. They should have dots on them and be above/near the directional pad, altought I'm not completely sure since I don't have an i860 in front of me.

With the phone powered off, push the two buttons and then power the phone on. In normal circumstances you should see some text on the screen and a message saying "ready to flash" and/or "flashstrap etc. etc." This is where I would recomend booting the phone to if you want to flash it with new software. I'm still curious if you can even get to this screen.

Also, even though a phone is in beautiful condition and it has been well taken care of it is still possible that it might have gotten moisture/physically damaged. This has happened to me already and I was a technician so I was more than careful with my phone.

It gives me the flashStrap screen. I guess the phone is alright to flash. I downloaded the Motorola Flashing tool, now all I have to do is pick up a data cable and flash the phone.

That would be correct. Or if you dont feel like spending the money on a cable and have ESRP a service center should be able to take of the flashing for you. Otherwise normal software upgrade price is $15. Let me know how you make out.

I had that same thing happen to my i830 and i took it into nextel and he said it was junk because there were dents in my mainboard....and i thought i took care of it

this happened to me too, i had to use flashstrap, but a usb cable did not do the trick. I had to buy a serial cable and it worked.
