You currently have the lastest firmware

v 3.0618.0.2
23-05-2006
rm-92
Nokia N80 (45.02)

or something simular to that. The unbranded one is

V 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
Nokia N80 ( 08 )

or simular but i dont no whether you can downgrade without killing yourphone.

I say wait a few months until a new firmware comes out, It wont be long

Stu

blkcliostu, you mention "but i dont no whether you can downgrade without killing your phone". So is it safe to say this is not certain yet?? I am also keen on downgrading so I can unlock my phone.

I also have this firmware:
v 3.0618.0.2
23-05-2006
rm-92
Nokia N80 (45.02)

My phone is locked to Three.
Is there perhaps a way to be certain about this?? I have been searching the web for days now & no luck...verrrry frustrating. Anyone out there have advice on this...pretty please

QFT. You don't want something bad to happen to your phone now do you?

Well, flashing doesn't equal unlocking. BB5 phones cannot be unlocked yet unless the code is asked for by the provider.

Yip..very sad indeed. Actually it might be a good thing

You can't downgrade the firmware, but the latest unbranded FW for the N80 is 4.0623.0.41, so you shouldn't have any trouble upgrading.

Methinks Nokia gives providers slightly higher firmware numbers to prevent their users from "downgrading" to the unbranded versions.

In the UK, by law, the provider has to give you the unlock code if you ask for it but there will be a charge (about twenty squids). After it is unlocked you can debrand it by upgrading the firmware.

I did all this with my Orange phone. The only things I have not been able to do is delete the Kodak software and get rid of the Orange access point but I can live with them.
