V325 File Transfer Help

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello; first post here. I apologize in advance if this has been asked to death, but I've been unable to find a similar post using the search function.

I recently got a new V325 from Verizon, and have been quite happy with it. Using the info from this forum and others, I successfully performed a SEEM edit to allow file transfer using MPT. I have been able to create my own ringtones in mp3 format and transfer them to my phone, and they even appear in the proper place in the phone once transferred (with the other ringtones).

My question is, using MPT I'd like to copy the original ringtones, wallpapers, etc., to my computer. However, MPT only shows empty folders using the File Transfer Studio in Multimedia Studio.

It lists 5 folders: audio, mixedmedia, picture, ringtone, and video. The only things shown in any of the folders are the ringtone I created (in the audio folder) and a picture I took using the built-in camera (in the picture folder). The folders are otherwise empty.

Anyone have any other ideas as to how I can see/copy the other items from the phone to the PC? I'm using MPT version 4.2.1a, and my phone software version is R9-1_X_05.28.1CP.

Thanks in advance for any help!

911medic, I have been trying to get to transfer to my phone for the longest time and cannot. I also hve a V325. Could you list the specific step by step instructions to get this to work please? I am not interested in transferring file from the phone to the computer, just from the computer to the phone.

I was thinking of making a little guide pulling all the info together from the various sources, since a lot of the info given is for different phones, but works for the V325. Give me a day or so and I'll post a new thread, which I'll link from here.

911medic, thank you very much and I appreciate that. Thanks.

If you want to compile the V325 info and put something together to add with the V710/E815/V3C/V3M stuff at http://mark.cdmaforums.com just let me know...

Mark, I am letting you know then.....thx.

You're letting me know you want it? or that you want to be the one to compile it?

Remember.. I don't have a V325.. so I have no way to test anything... that is the MAIN reson I have no V325, V276 or V265 info on my pages... I don't have those phones...

Absolutely. Most of the info is on your pages anyway. Once I post it, feel free to copy/modify it and use it on your site. And please, add any corrections!

Sharrahl, I'm nearly done with it, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

911Medic, Thanks you very much for compiling the list of the 'to do's' for moidifying the V325. I know that it will prove helpful.

PM me when your ready... I think it would be easier to post it on the pages (easier to EDIT/make corrections when needed)... and Post a thread announcing you did it...

PS... of course, anything you write up will have your name credited on that page... Example... See ITEMS # 17, 29 on the HOW TO's... and the pages they are linked to... along with the comments at the bottom of the PC Bluetooth page...

Sounds good, Mark. It's fairly long; I tend to be wordy, so it may require some editing down. You probably just need to add a few items to your already existing guides. It's really just a re-write/boiling down of the information in this thread and this thread as well as some odds & ends from other threads and clarifying that some of the info on your site works for the V325 as well as the other phones you have listed.

Sharrahl, Mark has posted the info on his site, here: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V325.htm

I previously had much success using BitPM for my LG VX4400, then on my Motorola 815. I have also used PST and P2Kseem for updating my 815 seem settings (e.g., Bluetooth, file exchanges).

After making the relevant file exchange seem change on my spouse's V325, MPT was able to connect and perform Address Book-level functions, but it kept timing out when attempting to read the pictures subdirectory in Multimedia Studio's file exchange area. This was with V323m selected as the phone type.

BitPM was also not able to read that subdirectory.

However, PKCommander was able to both read and copy files from the pictures subdirectory to my PC. The connection with this phone is flakey, to say the least: USB timeouts, CMD error codes, etc. A good connection cannot last for long, it seems. I tried such things on two different computers, actually - this phone just appears to have poor communications over their mini-USB connection.

When PKCommander begins to get error messages - e.g., after downloading 20 or 30 image files from a recent set of phone camera shots - I just close PKCommander and PST, disconnect the phone, reconnect the phone, restart PST, {test briefly with PKseem to ensure I get a "Connect" message - optional}, restart PKCommander, reread the filesystem and get back to transferring the remaining files.

So, it works in this manner. With alot of wishful thinking and good vibes to help this crappy phone connection along.

Otherwise, it's been a nice phone. VZ Navigator is a highly useful service.

Do I need to hack my phone in order to sync my calendar with my pc using Motorola Phone Tools? Because I downloaded the software, and I can sync my phone numbers but not my calendar. Thanks.

I would really like to know how you got things to connect on your wife's V325. I have one and lik eit very much and would also like to transfer pics and ringtones to it. My email is sharrahl@ameritech.net

My journey towards successfully connecting the V325 to a PC, and downloading phone camera photos, was generally mentioned above:

First, set the V325 seem setting - which is mentioned above and in other threads - for enabling file exchange. I won't go into detail on how to do that, as it's been repeatedly referenced and discussed in these forums.

Next, I tried to install MPT, which led to instantiating a serial driver for the phone:

From here, I was able to use MPT for Address book synchronization - but, anything run from within Multimedia Studio would time out with the phone or eventually respond in an unproductive/haphazard manner. My E815 still works great with the same software package and over the same PC USB port (although, the 815 uses a unique cable, since it doesn't have a standard mini-USB port like the V325).

I don't know if installing the driver above mattered at all for the below to be successful in exchanging files between the V325 and PC . . .

Hope that isn't too drawn out or confusing.

I have a slightly different problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have a motorola v325 from verizon. I can sync the phone and calendar. However, the times on my calendar are all wrong by 6 hours.

The times are correct on MPT before I sync, and they remain correct on my computer. It's just my phone...

Thanks.

I've read the post on Mark's site but am still confused and want to avoid any problems. The information recommends MSU for enabling SEEM update but later infers that MPT 4.0 would work for this task: "Alternatively, you can use Motorola Phone System Tools (PST), described below." I have MPT 4.1.5 and the phone is listed in the Windows Devices view as motorola modem. Do I need to use MSU? What are the steps when only using MPT with P2Kseem??

Medic - I have a V325i using Verizon as my provider. Will your instructions work for a 325i? Also, I understand the necessary warning about voiding the warranty and possibly turning your phone into a doorstop, but what are the odds? Is this a rare event? Fairly common? What are the potential dangerpoints?

Thank
