trouble with adding ringtones to 8900

i recently decided to update my two year old ringtones so i bought a cable off of ebay. i remembered how to do it from when i did it way back then, and now all the programs have been updated and i can't get any ringtones to actually play on my phone. i only got one three six mafia song to work, but the main thing i want is some pantera ringtones. i've made and re-made several and i have tried keeping them as mp3s and also changing the extension to .mid. i have used bitpim and the CID's Ringtone Tool and have also tried Brewsky, and both programs i have been able to upload the ringtones and have them show up under my tones thing on my phone, but none of them play except the three six mafia one. the three six mafia was the last of the first three i made, and i made them all the same way. i just can't understand why it won't work. hopefully someone can help?
