I was told the turnaround time is 7-10 business days in Canada, and that if you dont have a receipt they can just look it up through the IMEI. Since I bought mine off ebay.|

Your even lucky Solectron accepted your phone, they will give you a 90-day warranty on your repairs.

You are wrong stating that fido doesnt fix 8801, infact fido service centres they DO have repair parts & skus for this phone they even have the newest S/W. Where/who did you get this information from? not that it matters but if u bought from kiosk and it doesnt have newest s/w they would ship it for flashing too. If you have been mis-informed I appologise and I will gladly contact the person who gave you the incorrect information and send them an internal e-mail and correct them. and p.s. I used to do refurbishing for nokia phones too, so I know the quality of our refurbs, they are mint (all new hsgs) and they dont come with battery doors but they ARE new and scratchless 99% of the time, not that it maters. p.p.s. I was also right in telling you the wait time is longer than you'll believe. |

That and the f/w to 3.94 are the only good things coming from it thus far.

As i am posting this under my co-workers account. i probably won't be back to check on this thread...maybe maybe not. anyway, This is the major problem i was afraid of when i had to send in my own 8801 for a replacement bottem flex cable and charging port. (one raindrop and it's all over folks) anyway, I have been in contact with my rep from nokia, and my fido repair centers. The fido tech repair center in richmond (the only one in BC) CAN NOT OBTAIN 8801 PARTS. they do not fix 8801's they just OTC referbs and ship the broken ones off. this is the offical and un-offical answer. So paying more money for the warrenty through a local source...unsure about that. ANYWAY i've been back and forth with nokia for sevral MONTHS now... all nokia 8801 parts are restricted to authorized nokia repair centers lvl 3+ (I am only lvl 1) I finally found the parts on a cell phone parts website, they were restricted..i contacted nokia and after that battle they said they would authorize a ONE-TIME purchese, unfortunitly the company i was to purchese the parts from needed to creat a account for me and demanded i order bulk shipments, if not of the 8801 parts but of other mobile phone parts.... after living with my 8801 with a battery life of 20min and unable to charge from the phone itself (must use the seprate battery stand) I grew weary of this endless battle. I purchesed a Motorola A1200 and altho i have not been impressed with motorola reception as of late this model is absolutly FANTASTIC! I have been a proud supporter of nokia ever since i got into the telecommunications industry, but i am starting to feel betrayed by their lack of support. I recently was able to "procure" the parts I needed from a comapny in hong kong. I sent the order and the parts arrived in less then 2 weeks. If only i could have done this months ago. just after I placed the order I was at a company fuction with some reps from nokia and I started to inquire about their customer service. The fellows i talked to were very nice and I don't judge indviduals by the company they work for. But the lines they fed me were the same generic BS i'm getting used to "well nokia likes to treat their 8801 customers with kid gloves how to say, we value them as a special customer that needs to be taken care of, as far as parts they don't want them released because having a non-nokia repair center could damage the quality of the phone" well you know what... Maybe I am damaging the quality of the phone by repairing it myself...cuz it's so much diffrent then the hundreds of other phones I've delt with.... but i believe it's really more damaging to their reputation. this idea of kid gloves and special customer stuff is making me think they just expect the ppl who buy the phone to not care, and just fork over more money for another one, after all....the only ppl that have a 8801 must be loaded and didn't save up for a phone they thought was awesome??? right?? Nokia, I still have some faith in your company, please don't let it faulter. sorry for the rant guys, but reading this thread just made me want to say my piece. thanks ---Strife (using another account :P ) |
Ive lost my mind, and im still trying to get in touch with the dude there.

I told them the story, my sister came back from the UK and got me the phone as a gift, used of course. They told me flat out since I'm in the U.S. it can't be fixed, because the U.S. doesn't have the proper equipment to fix, bs because they could send the firmware through email. But it's a hardware issue, and they told me basically that I have to deal with this phone in this condition. So back to the question, should I try harder or is there a specific line that can help U.S customers with European phones get their phones repaired?

The 4 action buttons by the screen do not work and the top part of the cover phone is slightly open. I am throwing in 1gb mmc card. So I might make the starting bid $185 and buy it now $230 with $15 shipping. If anyone here is interested let me know and I know this isn't the buy sell and trade section.
