DIY: How to replace your V80 housing LONG with pics

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This would be my first DIY for phones. Please feel free to ask questions on how I went about doing this swap.

Ok.. I started off with a used Motorola V80 built/made in Singapore. I converted it to accept the 850 frequency band, it's now a full quadband phone. It works. I tested it with field test mode and made and received calls. I then decided to keep the phone and buy a new housing and make it all nice and spiffy again. Originally found the middle swivel housing with the front plate. Realized it didnt include the battery cover or the rear speaker cover. I had to track those pieces down as well(If you havent already gotten your housing, try to contact the source you're trying to get this from and see if they have the other 2 pieces). Still awaiting for the new battery cover and the rear speaker cover.

*********DISCLAIMER***********
please try to read through these directions along with those posted earlier by djnick on how to disassemble the Motoroal V80 PRIOR to attempting it. I am not liable for any damages. Please if you do not feel comfortable doing this housing swap please take it to a professional or someone who's willing to take a crack at it.. good luck and be patient.

Here goes.
STEP 1: TURN THE PHONE TO HAVE IT'S BACKSIDE FACING UP. REMOVE THE BATTERY COVER.

STEP 2: USE A PLASTIC PHONE PARTS REMOVAL TOOL, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE TRY TO FIND SOMETHING THIN AND FLEXIBLE SO YOU DON'T CRACK OR BREAK THE PLASTIC TO REMOVE THE REAR SPEAKER COVER

STEP 3: REMOVE THE BATTERY

STEP 4: REMOVE THE 4 SCREWS WITH YOUR T6 (TORX) SCREWDRIVER.

STEP 5: PRY THE SILVER TABS TO REMOVE THE MIDDLE CASING/HOUSING FROM THE SWIVEL HOUSING.

STEP 6: **CAREFULLY** REMOVE THE LCD SCREEN HARNESS/CONNECTOR

STEP 7: REMOVE THE PHONE'S BOARD TO EXPOSE THE MIDDLE SWIVEL HOUSING

STEP 8: CAREFULLY ROTATE THE FRONT

STEP 9: REMOVE THE 4 T3 (TORX) SCREWS TO ALLOW YOU TO REMOVE THE FRONT FACEPLATE

here on out I dont have any pics because I didn't want to remove it all over again.

BE SUPER CAREFULL WITH THE NEXT FOLLOWING STEPS.

STEP 10: GET THE PLASTIC PHONE PART REMOVAL TOOL YOU USED IN STEP 2 TO PRY AND RUN ALONG THE EDGE OF THE FRONT FACEPLATE TO REMOVE IT.

STEP 11: **CAREFULLY** LIFT UP THE LCD SCREEN AND REMOVE THE HARNESS/CONNECTOR

STEP 12: **CAREFULLY** USE A VERY FLAT TOOL (I used a very small flathead screwdriver) TO GET UNDER THE GLUED RIBBONS FROM THE MIDDLE SWIVEL HOUSING. TRY NOT TO BEND OR RIP THE RIBBON ANYWHERE.

STEP 13: QUICKLY STICK THE RIBBON PIECE ONTO THE NEW HOUSING PIECE BEFORE THE ADHESIVE DRIES OUT.

STEP 14: FOLLOW THE STEPS BACKWARDS TO INSTALL THE HOUSING. CAREFULLY WRAP THE LCD SCREEN RIBBON 1-2 TIMES AND GUIDE IT THROUGH THE OPENING AND ATTACH IT TO THE CONNECTOR ON THE BOARD.

STEP 15: THE REST SHOULD BE FAIRLY SIMPLE TO COMPLETE.

ENJOY YOUR NEW HOUSING ON YOUR FABULOUS V80

I can't wait to get my new back speaker cover and battery cover. I'm gonna be set and ready to party.. Anyone know if it's possible to set the club lights to longer than 10mins?? I know the battery will drain but it'll be worth it to see if flash like mad when I'm driving home listening to some Tiesto..

Sorry to bump this, but my V80s screen stopped working, IM assuming that I knocked the ribbon out of place becasue the rest of the phone works fine... SO, becasue none of your photos are loading do you think you should help me out? Also, how did you get it to work on Quadband (yes I searched)?

Edit: I fixed my screen! , Just the other Q if you ahve time.
