I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me with a particular change I would like to make, and for which I have so far been unsucessful. I want to be able to view and select service from all available carriers, and of course Cingular doesn't believe I should be able to do such a thing. I don't need this very often, but on occasion it is necessary. I would appreciate it someone could confirm the information below, and perhaps help me understand what I am doing wrong. I will provide the information I have, and the changes I have made to the phone so far.

Phone was purchased from Cingular on 24-Jun-2006 with following firmware and software:

Boot loader: 08.26
Flex Version: GSMV3MYCIN01NA0F5
Software Version: R374_G_0E.41.C3R_B

So far, I have successfully downgraded the Boot Loader version to: 07.D0 using Scotty2's downgrader program. I have also deleted my custgoodby.gif and my custwakeup.gif, and I changed my cl.gif to something that I like better. I have also unlocked the phone using the Mot_unlocker.exe tool. These changes all worked fine. This has now got my phone almost to the point that I want it, but I was hoping to select my current network by adding a missing menu item, but it doesn't seem to work as I would expect.

Using this file (http://xlr8.us/hofo/map.txt) I found this section, which I thought would make the changes I wanted:

SEEM 0032_0001

bits: 00000000 <-- binary

76543210 <-- bit #

offset 14 -
bit 0: Settings > In-Call Setup > My Caller ID > All Calls (1 on, 0 off)
bit 1: Office Tools > SIM Applications (1 on, 0 off)
bit 2, 3: Office Tools > Dialing Services > Quick Dial (1 on, 0 off) (bit 2 can cause Settings > Personalize menu to hang) (menu item, may require update to mma files)
bit 4: Settings > Network > Current Network (1 on, 0 off)
bit 5: Settings > Network > New Network (1 on, 0 off)
bit 6: Settings > Network > Network Setup (1 on, 0 off)
bit 7: Settings > Network > Search Type (1 on, 0 off)

offset 15 -
bit 2: Settings > Network > Available Networks (1 on, 0 off)
bit 3: Settings > Network > My Network List (1 on, 0 off)
bit 4: Settings > Network > Service Tone (1 on, 0 off)
bit 5: Settings > Network > Call Drop Tone (1 on, 0 off)
bit 7: Allow CALL BAR Password Change (1 on, 0 off)

I wanted to be able to manually select which network I was using. I don't need this often, but I do need it on rare occasions (I had it on my previous V551). I thought all I was going to need to do was flip bit 2 at offset 15, but when I got there, it was already set to 1=on. I switched it to 0=off, and nothing changed in the menus. (I did of course upload the new file to the phone before I tried it) I tried turning on bit 4 at offset 14, and that seemed to make no difference either. What the hell am I doing wrong? I mean this is a little tedious, but it's not like I'm trying to make dramatic changes.

Am I going to be forced to either Flex or Flash this phone before I make these change? If so, what would be the best version to use to cause the least amount of changes and or problems for my service? I was hoping not to have to change either the flash or flex, but if I must in order to get this option, then that is what I will do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitch
