ActiveSync problems on the Q

I've searched the forum and can't find anybody with this problem so I figured I'd post this in hope of an answer....I purchased my Q last Thursday and everything is working fine except for the ActiveSync. Let me briefly try to describe my problem. I've been using Gmail for awhile now and when I got home on Thursday with my Q, i went to www.4smartphone.net and purchased the basic microsoft exchange plan in order to push my Gmail messages to my Q. Everything works the way it should until I don't receive an email for awhile. If a couple of hours go by without receiving an email, the phone seems to go into a "sleep mode". When this happens, I have to select ActiveSync in my menu and manually sync it (this defeating the whole purpose) and my emails will then come through.
I have set up my Gmail exactly the way 4smartphone.net tells me to and have checked the settings on the phone, my Gmail account and 4smartphone account numerous times and it seems to be set up correctly. I've changed the SMS address in Gmail and on my Q, to my vtext sms address (5125551234@vtext.com) and the new sms address that 4smartphone.net gave me and neither seem to wake the phone up.
I was told that the purpose of the sms address is to send a "wake up" text my Q in order for it to ActiveSync whenever I receive a new email. Well, I've tried numerous times and it never works.
Has anybody else experience this problem? Any known remedies out there? I don't know whether this a phone issue (this is what I'm guessing) or a 4smartphone.net issue or what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point because Verizon Tech Support doesn't have an answer for me and I'd like to keep my Q rather than trade it in for another PDA.

Thanks in advance!!!

Check your text messaging use on Verizon to see if it is actually getting messages. If not, the problem is somewhere between the provider and Verizon.

I know that I must reset my phone each day, and then first "kick-start" the ActiveSync in the morning. From there (until the next day), it works great.
