LG VX8500 Chocolate

ok bigggg question and if so, i will buy the phone asap cause I still got the V710a.

Can you with this phone, put songs on the Micro SD, and set them as your ring tones? Its all i want

Posted by: adamator

You can definitely put songs onto the chocolate for use as ringtones, but you can't do it through verizon's software... Just use BitPim to put an mp3, midi, or whatever directly into the ringtones folder on the phone.

I think technically when you do this, it probably puts the ringtones onto the phone's resident memory before the microSD card, but if that was full, it'd probably put in on the card... either way it shouldn't make much of a difference--the point is that yes, you can put pretty much any song onto the chocolate for use as a ringtone.

Posted by: adamator

i should probably also add that you can do that with pretty much any phone out there today, with a few very low end exceptions... so if all you want is customizable ringtones, the chocolate might be too much phone for ya....

i just got my verizon chocolate, and i was dissapointed to find i cant just upload the mp3s as ringtones, i was glad to find this thread and that u can use bitpim, but when i got bitpim i found that i needed the cable (which i didnt buy) and that it doesnt have the vx8500 as one of the phones, can u please update me on how i can put mp3s as ringtones without the wire? thanks a lot

Does your PC have bluetooth? if so, you can use the Bluetooth Serial Port profile which the phone supports along with BitPim...

Posted by: NismoMax80

i imagine you cannot store ringtones on the card since it is removeable.

how would the phone respond if someone calls you while the ringtone is on the card and you happened to remove it?

sure some are upset over this, but it makes perfect sense.

yes, you can store the ringtones on the card.

but why would you remove it??

i mean, the only time i take my card out is whenever I try to upload the more ringtones...

ive gottem my phone right now and let me tell you, I love it!

Now this might seem like a dumb question but I believe that you can only set Windows Media Player songs and not MP3's and so how do you convert from MP3 to WMP? Im used to iTunes and not Windows Media Player and i see no option. On my old card, I had a ton of MP3's and when inserted into the phone, it dosent see them at all

Edit:

Ok scratch that. Im passed that. I had to format the card and make a folder called My_Music and now I can put MP3's in it no problem.

As for videos, what format does this phone support? I see the folder for it to go in and I created a video via Windows Movie Maker but in that folder, it does not see it at all...Does it only take 3GP type vids? thats what my old phone took.. (OK, I got this too, it takes 3GGP, see how playing around can help?)

Only Problem

I also made a folder called "ringers" and put an MP3 created via BitPim and then put it in there, turned my phone off and on and no vail so far. Am I missing something? I dont own the cable yet and im going to just purchase a bluetooth device tomorrow but for the mean time, am i missing something on what im doing wrong?

Posted by: mike9182

has anyone successfully connected to their chocolate using bluetooth and bitpim or bluetooth and the "browse" feature in bluetooh-enabled macs? I cant get either of these methods to work. can someone PLEASE help me out? i'm trying to put mp3 ringtones in, but i didnt want to pay verizon for their ripoff usb cable package.

Posted by: illegalprelude

Ok. Ive got everything major down on the PC side of things. I can now transfer songs for my MP3 lists, videos to played, pictures and now im sending Ringers via Bluetooth.

Mike, check back here tonight and ill try it on my G5 and see if i can get the Bluetooth going for some song transfers.

Posted by: illegalprelude

as far as the Mac Side goes, it seems like everytime I just Bitpim to locate the phone, Bitpim glitches up... hhmm

No go so far, nor is iSync

Posted by: jmc7

Does anyone know of anything other then bitpim that you can download to help with the uploading of songs as ringotnes on the lg 8500?
I am very annoyed that i cannot put ringtones on my NEW chocolate and i cannot stand the ringers that came with the phone. Does anyone know how to get songs from your computer to your phone as ringtones with the cable other then bitpim?

so basically u can use bitpim version 0.9.06 version (latest version) to transfer ringtones from pc to VX8500 with a USB cable even though on Bitpim's website the VX8500 is not under the list of supported phones?
has anyone tried it out yet?

Posted by: FuzzeH

What i did was I used audacity to cut the file down to a certain time. then i used dbpoweramp to convert the file to a mono channel and 64kb rate. then i sent the file to my phone via email attachment. the address should look like this "yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com" You will a need a vzwpix.com account to do this so go and set one up...its free

Posted by: illegalprelude

im using bitpimp right now, granted the phone is not listed but you can still connect to the phone, im doing it via Bluetooth, ive sent my conacts on my computer, ive sent ringers on my phone, it works just fine right now.

Posted by: NYRik

OMG IT WORKED!!! I can transfer my own MP3's as Ringtones using BitPIM...I had to set my Chocloate phone to the LG8300 and it worked like a charm!!!

Posted by: jmc7

Okay i have bitpim and i have tried to go in the phone settings on bitpim and set it as the lg vx 8300 and then when i get the ringtones ready and i try to send them to my phone it detects that its not the 8300 and that its an "other CDMA phone". How did you get your bitpim to actually stay as the 8300 and actually transfer ringtones to your 8500 (chocolate) ??? I am so annoyed with the regular ringtones its not funny.

Posted by: illegalprelude

I have just recently recieved this PM and I think it has some good info about the phone for all others interested

Hey, how goes it. Let me see if I can answer your questions.

Like you, I had the V710 and the reason I hadent upgraded yet was because the 710 gave you so much freedom, from putting songs right on a MicroSD card, and then from there, transfering them as your ringtones, to being able to customize your menues and such. With most recent Verizon phones, your locked into buying ringtones from Vcast (gay, i will not pay $2 for a song that only plays the begining, what if I want it from minute 1:21?) and the stupid retarded perriotory menues that all the button layouts are the same, just silly.

Finally, this phone lets you do everything you did with the 710 and more. The camera is far far better, backscreen quality is the best ive sene, blowing the razr and the LG 9800 out of the water. You can set Video as your background, internal memory of 128MB (unlike 710 where you only had 10mb so amount of ringtones you could store was very limited).

You can take your MicroSD card and either using USB or if you have a card reader (thats how ive always done it, with the CHocolate and the 710) and just put the songs, videos, pictures in the correct folders and now you have your MP3 files.

The easiest way ive found doing the transfer of songs is via Bluetooth. Ive very tech savvy but the whole email the ringtones, transfer them to MIDI and etc.

Using Bitpim, I can just use the Bluetooth setting, put it on seek, connect to my computer, set the setting to the LG 8300 (we have ther 8500 but untill they update it, it works just fine) and ive sent all my songs via Bluetooth and its a quick and easy transfer) You can pickup a Bluetooth adapter if you dont have one for $40 from Best Buy or cheaper on Newegg.com. I like that more then the USB method because it gives you much more expandibility with other products while the USB might only work for this phone or select few and thats it so its a worthy investment.

SO if you do have a card reader and you get a bluetooth USB adaptor, you dont need their stupid music pack and etc and again, you get much more expandibility.

If you have further question, post away as ive been eating through the phone, leanring new things everyday.

As far as the menues go, you can now customize them, they have these amazing, almost 3D like menues, full of different color and themes. Ill probably post a video very shortly a quick one till i make a better one

Can you elaborate on these menus a bit more? Where can I find them?

Thanks

illegalprelude: great post, thanks for the info! This may have swayed me from my previous decision to upgrade to the V3c.

Got a few questions for you:
1. is all of the ringtone stuff you describe in your post done in a way that keeps the phone's warantee intact? I guess I don't care 1 way or the other - just curious.

2. do you know anything regarding transfering other files using OBEX?

3. what about sync-ing phonebook from PC to phone?

4. any other seem edits along the lines of what's out there for the V3c (eg. getting free WAP access by changing the proxy server, getting rid of the horrible Verizon UI by flashing to a different firmware version, using the phone as a broadband modem for a laptop that uses just airtime)?

Posted by: Deejayskipp

hey thxs alot that helped ALOT!! you convinced me to get the chocolate now thxs for the help i really appreciated it.

Posted by: xdsofakingdom

what is this BitPim? where can i get it??

Posted by: thagoatt

bitpim is a great program that connects to your phone via data cable or bluetooth. it lets you add or delete any ringtones, pictures, mp3's/wma's etc. it gives you the freedom to put whatever you want on your phone without file size limitations or charges from your carrier. you can download it for free(its freeware), just do a search on google, or use your favorite file sharing program.

Alright, let me see, as far as Menues go,
Menue, Settings and Tools, Display settings, Display Themes, Try under there, the "Jazz" or "Rock 'n Roll" and you will see.

Also, under Wallpaper, you will see "Fun Animation" Try those 2.

I cannot imagine this harming the warranty in any form or maner because its a softwere and not some sort of hardware hack but do not hold to me to that. If the phone is giving you problems at some point, im sure you can just erase all content and then give it to them, I hardly doubt they have softwere that traces what you have done in the past

2. do you know anything regarding transfering other files using OBEX?

cannot say I do

3. what about sync-ing phonebook from PC to phone?

As far as it goes, I dont have any of my contacts on my PC to do it with but i Know you can go from phone to PC. I have though most of my contacts on my Mac but I havent been able to get it to work wiht my Mac yet, thats my next goal

4. any other seem edits along the lines of what's out there for the V3c (eg. getting free WAP access by changing the proxy server, getting rid of the horrible Verizon UI by flashing to a different firmware version, using the phone as a broadband modem for a laptop that uses just airtime)?

Those forms of hacks, I unfortunatly dont have a whole lot of knowledge about so others could answer better then I could, if I run along them, ill post them in this thread for sure.

As far as the menue and phone goes, ill be posting a video later tonight of the look and feel of it so stay tuned for that

Sorry, I already knew about these. But I interpreted your post to mean you can download and add other menus... Do you know how to do that?

Thanks!

When you say you've sent your contacts, does this mean you are copying contacts from a program like Outlook on your PC to your phone?

Ok im deff convinced on getting this phone. It should be here within the next couple of days. The biggest thing I wanted to do was transfer mp3's into ringtones among others. The question I have is that when I use bitpim do I already have to have mp3's on my phone to transfer them as ringtones, or can I automatically take an mp3 from my computer and turn it into a ringtone right away? You guys have been alot of help. Thanks

You can just drag and drop an MP3 into the ringtones folder and you'll be good to go. If you haven't used Bitpim, you just drop it into the folder, then you send the data to the phone and it should work...

If the video is too high quality, it will not play right. Make sure the resolution is not too high and save them as 3GPP via using Quicktime.

Posted by: brnguy99

3gp is what it is, its the same format i had for my vx 9800, same file i had on my sd card for the v.. normal quality on my settings on 3gp converter.

I am saving ringtones via microSD using a usb port. I have saved it under "my_sounds" but it isnt allowing me to play them, I see it saved but it won't let me play them. I don't see a folder for ringtones. Where are the ringtones suppose to be saved?? help, please

ringtones go in MR

Posted by: kaithoy523

in the LG Chocolate, the only way to store "Ringtones" is to put the MP3s in the "Ringtone" folder. To get to this feature is through BitPim. Connect your phone via USB and sync it with BitPim under LG VX8300 (LG VX8500 doesn't exists in the latest version of BitPim). "Send Phone Data" once you've selected the song you want to use as your ringtone.

SIDE NOTE:
It is a completely USELESS to use your FULL MP3s as your ringtone. IMHO everyone is better off editing your ringtones using your choice of audio editing software. (29 seconds works best since that's the length of your ring)

Posted by: airkarol

I got the LG VX8500 Chocolate over the weekend, but it seems that I cannot edit anything on the card or the internal memory. When i connect the phone to my computer via data cable(and 'Sync Music' from the phone), there are two 'modems' that pop up. One says blahblah internal memory, and the other says blahblah removable storage. If i open either one, both have a folder called Music and 3 other files. I cannot edit anything(copy, paste, move, new folders, new files), and i cannot connect it to BitPim using the ways that people have mentioned. What is wrong? (If this matters, I did not format my memstick before i started putting mp3 songs on it)

Thanks.

I got a VX8500 last night, and I'm trying to get BitPim to connect to it now.

The phone connects to WMP through the USB cable, so that much is working.

In BitPim, I'm just running the wizard and telling it that I've got a Verizon LG VX8300 and that it should autodetect the port. So I get this:

Phone Model: LG-VX8300
Port: auto
Detection Stauts: FAILED

So far, that's about all I can do. If I have BitPim look on COM1, it locks up and I have to kill it and start over.

Is it possible that I'm missing something? I've got the phone on and synched on its end. BitPim just isn't acknowledging that.

Posted by: DjCalvin

Stupid question, but did you install the drivers off of the Verizon LG cd-rom?

Mine picked it up right away as an unknown device, i changed it to 8300 and i can work with everything. (already upload 5 ringtones and my entire contacts from my old phone)

unplug your phone from the usb cable, reinstall the drivers, plug your phone, make sure you dont get a hardware error in the taskbar. fire up bitpim, and it should see your phone as unknown on comx. change it to LG 8300 in the settings and, click the fart left top button to start out. this will grab your wallpapers, msgs etc etc.

EDIT*
COM 1 and 2 are serial ports.
can you sync in wmp? or does it just show up?
also check device manager for any hardware problems.

I may have figured it out. I unsynched the phone, and it showed up unknown on COM4.

I think I might be accessing it now. I've never used BitPim before, so I'm not sure what to expect. I'll play with it for a bit and report my findings, I guess....

EDIT: I guess it wasn't quite that simple. It knows the phone's there, but it's not really getting into it. I've tried both Unknown and the 8300 on that port, and it's not finding anything I know is in the phone--numbers, mp3s, et cetera.

I did just get COM4 in the list of ports in the wizard, but it's still failing to find the 8300 at the end.

I uploaded the logue to http://gremlin.net/bitpim.logue.txt in case anyone with more expertise wants to glance it over for clues. Not really my field.

One more thing: if the phone is synched, BitPim can't detect it; once I unsynch it, it shows up as the unknown phone on COM4.

I did instal the Verizon CD, and WMP has no particular trouble transferring songs over to it.

I haven't seen a device error lately. In the beginning, BitPim claimed that COM4 wasn't working, but it can handle it once the phone is closed down to its basic standby mode.

Posted by: DjCalvin

13:39:03.217 Found phone:Other CDMA phone port:'COM4'
13:39:08.437 COM4: Opening port COM4, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0
13:39:08.437 COM4: Open of comm port suceeded

There it is.
Do not use the wizard for this.
Just select LG 8300 from the settings menu and it should work for you.

A couple things:
do not have WMP open when you do this. It may be trying to access the phone as well (not 100% sure on that though)

This is what you should see when you plug your phone in, then launch BitPim. (notice the horribly drawn arrow)
Then go to edit - settings - and choose the LG-VX8300

Posted by: Damnitologist

I think you're right. Once I told the main settings it was an 8300, I was able to get the Get Phone Data popup unghosted.

It's pulling in the phonebook now. That must be a good sign.

Thanks for the help....

No Problem, I just slapped in picture links in my previous post for those who need a picture to help them.

If you need ringtone guides or pictures/movies guide lemmie know.

I need a movie guide for my LG VX8500. I've been trying to put an episode of bleach onto my phone from BitPim, and its probably been 4 hours and its not even halfway done. I just cancelled it cause somethings definately wrong. I used 3GP converter and my setting is 3gpp2+aac setting. I went to the my_flix folder in the directory of mmc1 and right clicked new file and selected my show. Its only 60 mb so i dont understand how it could take more than 4 hours. Any help would be great =/

Edit: Also learning how to put ringtones on would be awesome as well ^^

Posted by: DjCalvin

As far as the movie goes, this is what I did:
I took a mpeg from apple's trailers and exported it to 3gp using Quicktime Pro. This took about 5 minutes to do for a 2 minute clip, so i think that would explain your time, i have yet to use any other software for converting though. Gimmie a few minutes and I will whip something up for ringtones. Its easy as pie.

LG VX-8500 Ringtone guide

Step 1:
Install your LG VX-8500 Drivers from the Music essentials Kit.
Step 2:
Download and install BitPim
Step 3:
Attach your Phone to your Usb cable.
Step 4:
Obtain ringtone. I have been using mhe77's site and its awesome! Thank you mhe77!
If you want to make your own: follow This guide.
Ringtones are reccomended to be 30 seconds or less.

Step 5:
Attach phone to usb cable, let windows pick it up and install the drivers.
Run bitpim, it should detect your phone as an other CDMA phone on comX
See Picture here for this.
Now, Go to Edit - Settings and in the Phone Type Dropdown, Choose LG-VX8300

You are now ready to slap up some ringtones to your VX-8500.

On the left hand side of BitPim, Expand Phone, then expand Media.
See that Ringers folder on the left? Thats where We are putting our ringtones. Example

So right click (or you can drag an mp3 here) and select Add.
Find your mp3 that you want to upload.

Now a new window will pop up with converting options like this

Just hit Convert and a dos window will pop up re-encoding the file.
once it is done, (took my pc a whopping 5 seconds to do)
You will be brought back to the same window. Down in the lower right, Click OK

You will be brought back to the main screen, and your Ringtone will be There.

Now the final step is to upload it to your phone.
in the top left corner click the Send data to phone button.

it will ask you what you want to send, Select Select ringtone and hit OK
Thats it!
You now have a ringtone on your phone.
Unplug your usb cable, hit menu > settings and tools > Sound settings > Call Sounds > Call rintone > All Calls and you can choose your new ringtone there.

This is how I have been doing it without any problems at all.

Enjoy.
(if anyone wants to repost this, but with the pictures inline, feel free.

if I can find a episode online or anything, Ill give it a shot myself.
Im at work and all my dvd's are home unfortunately.

Just to make sure my video wasn't messed up, I tried it with some final fantasy video that is 13 mb. When I tried to copy this to the my_flix folder, it also takes forever. It's been like 3 minutes and not more than one progress bar in BitPim. That just doesn't make sense -.-

Edit: A few minutes later I got a second bar.

I think its just extremely slow, but why would this be? Its a really small file..

Posted by: airkarol

I would really like an answer/fix for my movie problem, so im bumping @@.

Posted by: DjCalvin

Its not just you that is seeing the slow movie upload issue.
A couple folks have confirmed it as well in the main lg forum.

The only thing I can think of is the speed of the micro SD.
these are not quick chips.

has anyone tried sending a movie to their micro-sd card via the adaptor?
im curious to see if that speeds it up.

Posted by: brie27420

i converted a movie originally from my digital camera to a 3gp file. But when i tried to place it on bitpim it said it can 't read it. I"m confused because i thought that was what bitpim read. Any ideas?

Posted by: weaaddar

This will sound stupid but how do I actually use Bitpim to send MP3s to my chocolate? I can send over ringtones, but if I want to send over music it doesn't look like I can, nor can I grab music off my phone.

Posted by: DjCalvin

Slap them in the My_mp3s folder on the mmc1

Or use the sync in windows media player, which converts them to wma and puts them in my_music on the card

Posted by: weaaddar

Theres no way other then WMP to get them on the main memory of the unit?

Just asking because i've updated to wmp11 and the software doesn't recognize my phone

Posted by: DjCalvin

Uninstall WMP11 through add/remove programs (check the show updates box)

I havent found a working way yet.
I have a 1gb card, so i wasnt pushing it with my phone

Posted by: DjCalvin

And I have your solution.

I was able to upload a 35mb file in 3 seconds.

I used the MicroSd/Transflash Adapter that came with the memory card and slapped them in my card reader for my pc. Saw the drive, saw all my folders, saw my previous Transformers prievew.3gp and copied my new one there.
Put the card in.. and Nothing.. DAMN

Super job DjCalvin, I looked for hours before I found your BitPM walkthrough. I was getting the "exception" error when trying to get mp3's in my ringtone folder. Turned out that the cause was the rigntones my E815 converted mp3s I was using were ALREADY converted to low mono bitrates and BitPm didn't like it! I just re-encoded them to regular stereo 128bit mp3's and tried it again and they all worked. Just fyi for anyone having this wierd error!
I never did get my midi files (which are standard midi ringtones) to convert...
Rats!
Thanks,
Joe

Presuming you've got a MircoSD [and its adapter], you can copypaste an mp3 to the card in the computer [presuming also that you've got a cardreader], put the card in the phone, then transfer the file into the phone's internal storage.

Of course, the phone's storage being around fifty megs, and the card being up to a gigabyte or two, it makes more sense to leave these files on the card while it's in the phone.

Thanks for everyones help. Last night I decided to go buy a memory card reader, a 19-in-1 GE crap. I copied my 60 meg file in less than 5 seconds.

Only disadvantage is, the time it takes to load the movie/show. I was thinking if I made a movie 3gpp2, it would prolly take 10 minutes to load ^^. For a 60 meg show, it took about 1-2 minutes.

Hey Airkarol, What are you using to convert them to 3gp?
I was using quicktime, but Im having a problem with divx encoded material even playing in quicktime pro.

hey guys! im really glad i found this forum, as its helped out alot so far...i have a few questions, that hopefully ill be able to get some help with. basically, im trying to figure out if i really need to get the music essentials pack...

i want to get a bluetooth adapter for my laptop...so that would replace the need for the usb cable..i already have bitpim installed from another phone...so, do i have to install the drivers from the cd if i were to use bluetooth/bitpim?...is it possible to use my own headphones, since the headphones that come with it have that button thingy for calls...and if so, would i just need a small adapter?

i think i had another question, but i cant think of it at the time...anyways, thanks for all the help

I went ahead and got the extra kit for one of the 8500s [we actually got two phones in the same account]. The phones come with an adaptor for a headset, though I think it adapts directly to an eighth-inch jack, requiring either a second adaptor for normal headphones, or other specialised stereophones with eighth-inch plugs.

The headphones in the kit do suck a bit. Apart from the microphone built in at the Y junction to allow speaking as well as hearing, and the special plug designed to fit the phone directly, they're basically just iPod buds but heavier. They've got a lapelclip to diffuse most of the weight, but it's still too possible to have the speakers fall out of your ears without warning; the risk heightens if you're moving around at all.

My fix was to get some adaptors from slicsound.com which fit over the earbuds and kinda inject the sound into your ears--somewhat like the Koss quarter-inch headphones I'd got for my PSP.

PlanB: since my attempts at describing this are confusing even me, and since the 8500 actually gets decent shots, I'll just upload an image of my headphones as they are now: http://gremlin.net/images/phone/0828060856.jpg

As for the rest of the kit, I don't use MediaPlayer for the phone at all now. I do use BitPim to insert ringtones and things; otherwise, I just pull out the MicroSD to transfer files back and forth from the phone.

I can't guess whether BlueTooth would require anything found on the CD from the kit. Using the 8500 largely as a walkman, I go through its battery quickly enough without expecting it to go all BlueToothy too.

Hopefully, this was more informative than confusing. Feel free to ask if anything made no sense at all....

EDIT: One more thing, since I'd wondered about it before I got the phone and the kit. The USB cable fits into the headphone slot, which is also the power slot. There's really no way to use the headphones while recharging the phone, while using the cable. But the powercord will connect to the USB cable and recharge the thing while you're transferring things back and forth. Meanwhile, you can still use the phone without the headphones, and even listen to music through the smallish speaker in the back.

In the end, it all makes a weird sort of sense, maybe.

The chocolate supports the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP)...

but, it really depends on the Bluetooth drivers on your PC..

if widcomm see comments in -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=981184

How do I get the microSD card out of the phone? I just bought 1 gig of memory for my phone, and found out that transfering music over the cable is unacceptably slow, and so I'll use sd adapter. The problem is there seems to be no eject button or anything to get the memory out of the phone.

Posted by: KingTomis

Just press into the card and it will pop out.

I have tried to get ringtones in .wav, .mid, and .mp3 format on my chocolate and nothing works. I can get them to the sounds folder on either the card or the phone. I used bitpim to try and get them in the ringers folder but they don't show up when I try to assign ringtones to contacts or calls/messages. I don't understand what the "sounds" folder does since they can't be accessed as ringtones (several came preloaded). I tried to make a ringers folder on the card as advised. The instructions say make it as a subdirectory but don't say where. I put it in the card but not in any of the exixting folders on it. It doesn't seem to show up on bitpim. I will appreciate greatly a simple comprehensive set of instructions on what to do. Thank you very much

after u copy them into the phone thru bitpim (mr folder) you need to turn the phone off then on.. then they should show up

you can also email to your phone yournumber@vzwpix.com (once u get the text.. pick options, 5. save as ringtone)

woo. Been gone for a while, hopefully i can answer a few questions when I read over all the posts. One question I do have myself is about the video. I know you can either set them as 3GP or MPG4 via Quicktime Pro witch is what im doing and its how I did it before. The problem is that my video's are now coming out very choppy. Frame by frame but audio is smooth. Am I missing something? I used to be importing them in just fine...so is there a particular FPS setting and Vid Resolution size via QuickTime Pro that im not doing?

I got bitpim to recognize my phone but I can get it to do anything. I says "It has been blocked by phone provider". How do I get around this? There has to be a hack or something in the filesystem to override this.

Also, my VX8100 does the same thing but only when I try to transfer my all ready made ringtones. How do I get around this???

thanks!!!

Posted by: pryncearif

U can also go to www.myxertones.com for ringtones, u can upload a song from ur pc and make it as ur ringtone. Its a great site. By the way before u send it check the box right above it that says "check if verizon"

Posted by: mhos

I've read on other forums that Verizon is now blocking bitpim specifically. I also know from first hand experience. My wife bought an LG Cherry Chocolate last week. I was using bluetooth to transfer ringtones made with bitpim. It worked great! Then Sunday morning before I was up she activated it. Since then I've had the same message. "blocked by phone privider"

Correct me if I'm wrong....it's her phone, should all the LG options be active?
It would be like buying a car with extra options, then the bank where it's financed says you can't us any of them. It's all BS

Posted by: ARoscoe

Yeah, I'm SOOO pissed. I have 2 chocolates, one I dropped in the snow, so they sent me a new one for insurance, and I activated it. I then went to do the whole ringtone thing and that message came up. If ANYONE knows how I can get my MP3's as ringtones without paying for them, I will be very thankful.

Posted by: SAKITA

you have to do the text message method. and each ringtone has to be under 200kb.
i use my chocolate to send them to my friends strawberry chocolate. i upload them as sounds to mine and transfer them to hers via text.

Do you get charged at ALL for the myxertones.com?

Hello.. yes i have a powerbook g4 mac and ii have successfully connected via bluetooth. The way i did it is like this...: go to bitpim, go to bitpim preferences, where it says phone type pic vx8500, where it says com port click browse. This should open another window and saying that you should choose the port. Under available ports, you should see something like Serial(/dev/cu.[nameofphone]-BTDIAG-1) . If you do not see this it may mean that you do not have your bluetooth on... or that you havent paired your computer with the phone. Click on the port, then select ok. And then click ok again in the bitpim preferences window. What i have noticed in the past is that even if bitpim does detect the phone it may not be obvious. For example if i tell bitpim to look for the phone, it doesnt find it, yet transfering files still works. In order to know that it has found your phone, look at the very bottom of the bitpim window and you will see a green circle with READY next to it.. on the left hand side click file system and click on the triangle (next to the blue folder) and it should say "retrieving...." if this is happening successfully, the green circle will turn red and BUSY will show next to it ( you will also see the progress bar move ) . You have to wait like a minute to see the file system. HOpefully this helps... let me know. Chichiltleyotl --- RED HEART OF FIRE!

Depending on your plan, it may charge you for receiving a pix message
