Korean LG Chocolate phone - how to transfer mp3s from PC?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I went to Korea this past summer and picked up this phone (which is called LG SV590 rather than KG800 for some reason). I can't read Korean that well, so I couldn't figure out how to transfer mp3s from my PC to my phone (both for ringtones and for listening). Does anyone know how to do it? There's no obvious directory or anything on the phone's internal memory, and the rest of the files on the phone are some weird proprietary format I think.

I'm suprised that you got the phone in Korea. I'm not too knowlegable on the ins and outs of korean CDMA phones, but I was under the impressiont that you couldn't take a korean CDMA phone out of korea for use in, say, the US.

At any rate, for my GSM Kg800, I simply connect it my PC with the cable, wait for the computer to recognize, then open "my computer", then open the kg800 drive, and drop mp3s into the music folder. Simple.

i am korean and i can do any translating needed in this forum, PM me. the only prob is, i dont have that phone(i wish i could take a vacation there)and i think it'd be a better idea to just follow liquidsense's directions. if you can take a pic of the korean manual or the phone in the menu, i could translate whatever.

I should have said that I can get help reading the manual, but it seems like it just covers downloading mp3s via a Korean provider, which I obviosuly can't do since I'm in the USA. Like I said, there is no "music" directory inside of the phone's internal memory, so I think it might be something more than just drag and drop. I'll try to get that picture of the manual to you anyway, tjpark.

So, when you connect to the phone to your computer (without turning on the modem), and then you open My Computer, then the phone drive, what do you see? Do you see a My Media folder?

Also, you can always use the LG ContentsBank program (though you need to modify the configuration settings to allow transfer of MP3s.)

Also, just out of curiosity, what service provider are you using to use a Korean CDMA phone in the US? I ask because I frequently go to Korea, but have never bought a CDMA phone from there b/c I always thought they didn't work in the US. You can PM me if you'd like.

How do you turn off the modem?

Everytime I try to hook it upto the computer it recognizes it as a modem and I cant add any music.

There is a folder called MELON, the program that's mentioned in the manual. There is also a folder called My Media from one of my failed attempts to get it to work. As for the other question, I had my phone activated at some phone shop in LA for use under my current Verizon plan. I had to pay extra to get it activated, fyi.

I also didn't get any software at all with the phone (or probably misplaced it), so I need to get them somehow...? Is this illegal to ask?

No, not at all. I was just curious. Anyway, with my KG800, I open the "My Media" folder and inside that folder is an music folder, where I just drop my MP3s. But I think its safe to assume that you don't have a music folder.

The software I use can be found here: (I would think it would work for your phone, since this is universal for most LG phones)

http://uk.lgmobile.com/common/proc_.../KG800_UK_1.zip

Once you install it, you need to configure the settings to match your phone model type and go through a whole barrage of steps in order to upload mp3s, or Java games/apps. The info can be found here:

and to change model type:

Hope it works out. And I may honestly contact you one day to figure out how to unlock CDMA phones. My brother lives in K-town LA, so I can always have him get a phone unlocked for me - once I figure out who I need to bring it to.
